victory_road | Sixth Sacrament

[ The video comes on, showing a beautiful, vast meadow as night falls. The Sun's already set, the sky starting to darken and the stars slowly emerging from behind the daytime veil of blue. And in the field, there's a bright, white fire, seemingly growing bigger in an oddly self contained way. Walter stood off to the side, watching the fire with clear awe written on his face.

The fire grew and began to fade, revealing that in it's centre was a Marowak. The Marowak stood tall, thin with dark scales. It's eyes were pure silver, glowing in the half-dark. And on it's foreheard...the Halo of the Sun was inscribed, more complete than the simple pattern Walter had painted on his Cubone. Assumption looked over himself, before turning his gaze up to Walter.]

Assumption...

[ The name held a lot of barely contained emotion, awe, pride and joy painted on Walter's face. Assumption recognised it and grinned, running forward to embrace his trainer. Walter crouched down and picked him up, spinning him around in a circle (revealing the patterns of bones on Assumption's back) and holding him to his chest.

And he began to laugh. A rich, deep laugh that he hadn't used since coming to the Pokeworld. The video cuts out with Darkness leaving the Gear on the floor, flying over to land on Walter's shoulder and caw joyously. ]

[And it's so good to see him smiling and proud. It makes Asriel warm with happiness himself.]

I've never seen a Pokemon like that ever before! Assumption's probably super special now!

He's not like the other Marowak I've seen. They normally keep their brown colouring and don't have patterns on their backs. [ So yes, Assumption certainly is special! Darkness puffs up a little but he can't argue that Assumption does look very different from other Marowaks. ]

Maybe he was meant to be special all along! Maybe...you can't know if his type is special until they evolve?

[He really doesn't know what might make a Pokemon evolve into one form over another.]

Maybe. Some pokemon evolve differently according to circumstance. I never heard about it happening to Cubones when I first researched what he was.

[ His type! Assumption wiggled, patting Walter's arm and hopping out of his relaxed grasp. He took his bone and tapped it against the Halo on his forehead - and an eerie green flame burst into light over the tip. With and a spin, the open tip also ignited. Walter's eyes widened in awe. How is his Pokemon so perfect ]

You're part fire-type...

Whoa! See, he's super special! That' can't just be circumstances...or, um, maybe it's part of that, but also definitely part of being special.

[He honestly believes this.]

[ Walter reached out and pet the top of Assumption's head, who grinned and hugged his club. That was still on fire, but the ghostly flames didn't bother him at all. ]

He's incredible. God did gift him to me, but I never imagined he would be so perfect.

[Ahah, yeah, God. Or...whatever weird magic brought them all here in the first place. Or the professor that totally gives everyone a Pokemon.]

Mm...I didn't think Gracie would be like she was, either. But, she's perfect for me, too. I guess the Pokemon we get are the most special ever.

[ Well, Walter had been given his by Team Rocket. Some divine hand had to lead him and Assumption to each other; they could have given him anything but they had given him his sweet little Cubone, now blessed Marowak. ]

I never thought I could be so happy. [ He admitted quietly, cuddling Assumption. Darkness gave a caw and earned a pet on the chest. They both made him happy. ]

...

[Asriel can't help his smiling. This is...this is so wonderful! It's so, so wonderful, he doesn't know how else to think of it.]

I'm glad - I'm glad you're so happy, Mister Walter. Happiness is so important...it's just as important as love is!

[ Love. Walter's smile dimmed a little and a distant look briefly came over his eyes. ]

...I'd never been loved back home. My parents left when I was born, and I was raised by an orphanage. [ There it is. It didn't explain everything, it didn't go into the horrors of what that orphanage was like; but it was an explanation for why he didn't understand his Pokemon's affections. He looked at Assumption again and, without realising it, gave his Pokemon a deeply fond look - many would call it a loving look. ]

I don't know how that if that's what I'm feeling now. But looking at him...it makes me feel warm and happy. Is that love? All of my Pokemon are good. So good. [ He curls around Assumption in a hug, which the Marowak returned with a wagging tail. ]

[The sadness that tinges Asriel's expression can't be masked, and he doesn't try to. It may not be the same story, but he's not surprised that the human world seems to prick itself into his human friends in such ways that they hurt in this way. He was so lucky, even in the Underground, to know that his parents loved him dearly.]

...Love's kinda hard to really describe, but...warm and happy's gotta be a good start, if you're not used to it.

It's...good. It feels good. [ He admitted quietly. Darkness leaned over and affectionately fussed with Walter's hair. Even if Walter tried to tilt his head away. Assumption didn't help nuzzling into Walter's chest and beaming at Asriel. ]

[ He spoke very very softly, under his breath. ] I hope I get used to it... I like this feeling.

...I hope so, too. It's...everyone should get to feel it. That's what I think.
