Sixth Sacrament - Assumption

[ The video comes on, showing a beautiful, vast meadow as night falls. The Sun's already set, the sky starting to darken and the stars slowly emerging from behind the daytime veil of blue. And in the field, there's a bright, white fire, seemingly growing bigger in an oddly self contained way. Walter stood off to the side, watching the fire with clear awe written on his face.

The fire grew and began to fade, revealing that in it's centre was a Marowak. The Marowak stood tall, thin with dark scales. It's eyes were pure silver, glowing in the half-dark. And on it's foreheard...the Halo of the Sun was inscribed, more complete than the simple pattern Walter had painted on his Cubone. Assumption looked over himself, before turning his gaze up to Walter.]

 

 

Assumption...

[ The name held a lot of barely contained emotion, awe, pride and joy painted on Walter's face. Assumption recognised it and grinned, running forward to embrace his trainer. Walter crouched down and picked him up, spinning him around in a circle (revealing the patterns of bones on Assumption's back) and holding him to his chest. 

And he began to laugh. A rich, deep laugh that he hadn't used since coming to the Pokeworld. The video cuts out with Darkness leaving the Gear on the floor, flying over to land on Walter's shoulder and caw joyously. ]

[It's Mister Walter - Asriel hasn't seen him since they sewed in Goldenrod, so to see him on the network is a great surprise! And gosh, would you look at that! Assumption just evolved before eveyrone's eyes, he's so different now! And Walter - he's so happy, judging by that laugh! It's relieving to see a friend who had once been so unhappy could still find happiness within himself. Asriel can't help but respond.]

Whoa! Mister Walter - that was amazing! That is amazing!

[ It takes a little bit for Walter to realise the Gear is even there, too busy cuddling and marveling his new Marowak. But he does pick it up finally! Darkness extends a wing in greeting, recognising Asriel while Assumption waves to him too. And Walter's still smiling, a smile that reaches his eyes. ]

He is. [ His Pokemon is amazing. Walter still had an arm around Assumption, holding him snugly. Assumption blushed but beamed at the praise, tail wagging. ]

[And it's so good to see him smiling and proud. It makes Asriel warm with happiness himself.]

I've never seen a Pokemon like that ever before! Assumption's probably super special now!

He's not like the other Marowak I've seen. They normally keep their brown colouring and don't have patterns on their backs. [ So yes, Assumption certainly is special! Darkness puffs up a little but he can't argue that Assumption does look very different from other Marowaks. ]

Maybe he was meant to be special all along! Maybe...you can't know if his type is special until they evolve?

[He really doesn't know what might make a Pokemon evolve into one form over another.]

Maybe. Some pokemon evolve differently according to circumstance. I never heard about it happening to Cubones when I first researched what he was.

[ His type! Assumption wiggled, patting Walter's arm and hopping out of his relaxed grasp. He took his bone and tapped it against the Halo on his forehead - and an eerie green flame burst into light over the tip. With and a spin, the open tip also ignited. Walter's eyes widened in awe. How is his Pokemon so perfect ]

You're part fire-type...

[For a moment, Mabel didn't know if she should say anything back to him. After their little talk, it was difficult if she should continue befriending this man. Even if he knew what he did was wrong and even if it he didn't really do it, she was still talking to a murder.

There was a bit of silence before she finally spoke]

Well, that's something I don't think I get to hear everyday! You're laughing, aren't you?

[ Walter's smile faded a little. He could feel how uncertain Mabel felt from the Sevii Islands. But it was clear she was trying and he...he appreciated that. It didn't stop him from feeling a little bashful about being caught laughing on camera. ]

I was, yes. I haven't laughed like that in...a long, long time. [ Assumption waved to Mabel. Despite looking far fiercer as a Marowak, he was clearly still the same Cubone. ]

Then that's a good thing, you should laugh like that some more! It seems like you really need it!

[She said with a nervous smile. Despite how worried her voice was, she was truly glad to see him have a smile on his face. That and looking at his Marowak? It seemed like he was doing a lot better]

[ His smile remained as he hugged Assumption, so proud of his Pokemon. ]

I haven't been this happy in all my life. [ Or in his afterlife ] I never had a friend like Assumption. And now he's evolved. I'm so happy.

Then you should smile more! C'mon, I know there's an even bigger one just hiding behind that one! Show me, I want to see it!

[ At being told to smile, he paused. Then ducked his head behind Assumption, very much like a shy child. Assumption smiled, wagging his tail as he lifted his arms and squished Walter's cheeks, trying to make him smile. Which did make him smile, mood still lifted by Assumption's evolution. ]

Assumption, please...

[A joyous trainer and a unique-looking Pokemon, that's reason enough to sit up and take notice. There's something...eerily familiar about how Assumption looks, some affinity she feels--]

What a gorgeous Marowak! Is it...part Ghost?

He is. He's a fire type as well. [ It says a lot about how happy Walter is that he'll answer questions from strangers without hesitation right now. Assumption waved to her, while Darkness watched her carefully from the other side of the screen. ]

I don't know how he did it.

_{[He has never actually witnessed a Pokemon's evolution, before-- the only evolved members of Wrath's team came to him that way already. ... Or... well, he stole them that way.]}

Yes, he has. [ Walter's smile faded a little. He had been intending to see Wrath before...before everything. He switches the video to private, still hugging Assumption with one arm. ]

Wrath, I can't return to Goldenrod.

[ Oh. He wasn't expecting Wrath to be so upset. Annoyed maybe but this expression was something else. A wave of guilt washed over him again and Assumption avoided Wrath's eyes. ]

I did come back. But Henry and I ran into each other. He'd...told me not to come back. And he wasn't happy to see me there.

Henry's only one human.

He tells me not to eat his food, but I do it anyway. He can't do anything.

He punched me. And...one of my Pokemon attacked him. [ Still not revealing who outright, but Assumption noticeably turns away from the camera and presses into Walter's chest. ]

I don't want my Pokemon to be taken from me. And Henry has friends. Far more than me. I don't want this to happen again, so I have to stay away.

Now how d'ya like that! I've never seen a Pokemon evolve like that before!

[ Oh, it's Ralph. He hasn't heard from him in a while. ]

Neither have I. They all emitted light but Assumption's was like fire.

I wonder if that means he's special...y'know, kinda like how some Pokemon are an unusual color. Either way, congratulations to your lil' fire guy there!

He is. [ Walter speaks with resolve. Darkness cawed in agreement, the Honchkrow obviously pleased with Assumption's evolution as well. Assumption grinned, getting a little bashful under the praise. He waved to Ralph anyway, firmly seated with Walter ]

Even if other Pokemon evolve like that, Assumption is special. [ Still a little giddy from happiness, he cuddled Assumption openly. The Marowak snuggled into the hug. That much hadn't changed from his Cubone days. ]
