[For a minute, only the usual noises of a large city at night can be heard. It's only after two Meowth start arguing some distance away that someone finaly speaks.

Ash hesitated a long time, before starting this feed.]

...If I have to celebrate one more birthday in this world, I think I'm going to scream. Does anyone have any terrible birthday stories to share, or do I have to start telling my own?

Doesn't matter. I've probably had worse before, as far as that goes, so fire away.

Well I've had plenty of family die on my birthdays, I've died on my birthday sometimes... there was the time where I was taken as a prisoner of war because of a raid on my village, and I was in a female incarnation that time, and... well. I assume you know the classic fate of those taken in raids.

Oh, and the birthday where I got dumped off at an asylum, that was fun.

...What is it with people who keep dying on birthdays around here? Maybe you guys should stqart a club.

[That might actually be a serious suggestion.]

Please tell me you had the chance to bloody those raiders up. Or stab them while they had their backs turned.

Maybe, but it would be a very depressing club. And I did, a bit... though I didn't have much to work with other than my nails.

Depressing, sure, but people always say that sharing experiences is important.

[He doubts they had that kind of experience in mind, though.]

Nails are better than nothing, but I guess those raiders were both armed and armored.

Armed. The armor was a little... primitive, by most standards.

So of course they could repay any damage you did tenfold. That's particularly bad, as far as shitty birthdays go.

Mm. I don't pay much attention to birthdays anymore. They don't mean much when I've had so many.

[Voice]

Shouldn't the fact that you've had so many be a reason to celebrate in itself? Most people want to live long lives.

I've had a lot over different lives. Most of them weren't all that long. And my birthday is different each time I'm reborn, so it doesn't matter.

[Voice]

...That would be a less interesting prospect, yes. Must be hard to keep track of each date for each life, if you still bother.

I tend to just keep track of the one of the life I'm in.

[Voice]

In the hopes that it'll be an improvement from last time, or just because?

Because family tends to make a big deal about it. Or at least they have the past few lives I've had.

...Point. They usually do, if they're around and if they're worth it.

I've had... somewhat decent luck with them the past few lives.

That's good to hear. ...Though I guess that makes being separated from them more difficult.

Mm. I suppose. It's all right enough. I don't tend to get too attached, usually.

I'd ask how you manage that, but I guess experience explains it.

It's easier than some people think, but harder than I'd like, most of the time.

...I don't think I could do it. I get attached too easily, even when I shouldn't.

You remember that they're going to die and forget you when they're reborn, so it seems a bit pointless, overall.

And you can be certain that they'll be reborn, too? Is that the case for everyone in your world?

As far as I've been able to tell, yes.
