Once again, my team has proven that they do not believe in restraint, chastity, and their own trainer's comfort.

[Coming from many trainers, such a dramatic proclamation would be a tad exaggerated. Coming from Cecil, with the video showing a bedroom where every flat and not-so-flat surface is covered in eggs, it might actually be true.]

Would anyone kindly adopt one or more of these children? I'll ask for no more than P1500 for them, and the few species that'll hatch with barely any egg moves can be yours for as little as P500.

[Half his team chooses this moment to brag about their future progeny's talents. Their combined volume makes Cecil wince in pain.]

...It'd be nice if they could all find loving homes soon. I might not be around to care for them in the near future.

That would be very kind of you! Is there any particular Pokémon you might be looking for?

I believe it's name is Wooper? It's a water type I think, or at least the guidebook I was given has it under that.

[ Maria mainly just wants it cause it's cute. ]

An excellent choice. Their secondary Ground-type protects them from the effects of electricity, and they have a chance of being immune to explosions.

[Cecil's goal in catching one ws not related to its cuteness, strangely enough.]

Certain Pokémon learn explosive attacks, whether naturally or through TMs. They're far from common, due to their drawbacks, but the ability to counter them is still useful.

[Especially when people drop exploding snowflakes on Celadon.]

I would rather not encounter them, even if it can be countered the drawbacks must be horrible to the pokemon using the attack.

[ Sounds more like a swan song, something no one should ever have to use since it causes damage to the wielder. ]

As terrible as they can be. The Pokémon using the move faints, usually alongside the one on the receiving end, and must be brought to the Pokémon Center to recover.

[Nothing permanently damaging, but still unpleasant.]

I can see why you would use that move in battle, knocking the enemy out at the cost of one of your own. But if you manage to have back up then it's worth taking the hit?

That would depend on how many other battles you expect to fight, how far is the closest Pokémon Center, and how you intend to thank them for the sacrifice. Even if they know they'll be fine, it's hardly a pleasant experience.

[There's a shout of agreement somewhere in the background.]

I don't think they'd be willing to trust anyone if they had to do that in a battle. If a pokemon center is close and they do get healed the physical damage might be gone but not the mental damage.

That takes much longer. Rosie accidentally exploded while using Metronome, once, and she found the experience very upsetting for weeks. ...Especially since the move was wasted, adding insult to injury.

They can accidentally explode?

[ Maria doesn't know much about any sort of move that copies others, or even other moves that can cause the same type of damage as exploding. It's still not fun to know things can just up and blow. ]

Certain species learn a move known as Metronome, which imitates any other move at random when used. Sometimes it has a devastating effect on the opponent, but other times...

[Kaboom. Against a Ghost-type. That was nice.]

[ All of this is useful information at the very least. Hopefully her Igglybuff won't try and use that move or even learn it. ]

It's a game of chance using it.

Trying it once or twice while training can lead to interesting results, but it's not nearly reliable enough for a serious battle, unless you've no other option. Even if the user does not explode, they might still, say, raise their special defense against an opponent that only uses physical attacks.
