ACTION: ROUTE 29

[there's a knocked out pidgey on the ground near a campfire. Robert himself is sitting at the fire itself, fiddling with a stick, which he'd planned to use to spit the damn thing... his tepig, Orys, is snuffling around the pidgey, ]

Still alive, looks like. Rather a strong thing, isn't it? You've given it a hell of a beating!

[he sighs dramatically.] Well, looks like we'll have to find something else for our dinner-- What? [Orys is nudging the pidgey and looking at Robert expectantly.] You can still eat it if you'd like, I suppose...

[this is not entirely effective person-pokemon communication.]

NETWORK

[the post is later that night, probably later than most reasonable people would still be awake.]

Why can't you eat 'em? [if it sounds like he just woke up from a deep sleep and felt the urge to immediately ask that question-- well, it's because he did.]

[Today's video is focused on a Blaziken - the tall bird is reclining peacefully on the ground not too far from what seems to be a road, head propped on one hand-like claw, and very patiently tolerating a small yellow Charmander using it as a living climbing structure.

The Blaziken only moves when the Charmander starts to wobble, reaching out to steady it with its free claw.

The touching scene is sadly interrupted when the guy behind the camera speaks up, his voice a grumbling yet concerned growl:]

Torch dragons are orange. Is this one sick?

[Other than his demand for the return of his 'face', Jack hasn't been very active on the public network. Certainly not posting any video. But today...]

[Well, today he's got something to show off. He himself isn't on screen, but the feed shows a very agitated looking Beedrill, facing off against a Purugly.]

Look at what my special girl won for me! Not the fat purple cat, the friggin awesome killer wasp monster! Now that is a badass Pokemon. He wants to fight! Ahhh, it's even my favorite colors. Think I might call him...

Oh, crap. I had a super cool name in mind, totally badass, was gonna name him after some bee god, but now I completely forget what that was. Arty....Arse...

Screw it, I'll call him Kill Sting.

[Jack sounds extremely pleased and proud. Which he is. What a sweet and thoughtful girl Manaka is.]

Anyway...not gonna be in Goldenrod for a while, taking a vacation with my girl.

Draculaura, you're in charge.

You know, there was so much going on when I arrived, I never did introduce myself on here. Hi. The name's Felix.

Now, obviously I don't need anyone to tell me the basics, don't worry, I already got all of that. I mean, this is by far the weirdest planet I've ever been to, and that's saying something, but I'm a quick learner. I'm much more interested in hearing about--

[Felix is cut off, suddenly, by a horrible burst of static. Sorry folks, it's not pleasant.]

Oh, for the love of... [Light blue sparks are just visible on the feed, originating from the gear from the looks of it. To say Felix looks annoyed would be an understatement. But he takes a deep breath and keeps going.] As... I was saying. I--

[And another interruption. It's music this time; different from the regular music that always plays, this is very clearly a radio station. At first the music drowns out everything, but the volume is lowered as Felix just decides to smack the side of his gear.]

Okay, screw it. New question! How the fuck do you get a Rotom to stay out of your goddamn gear? Because I'm about five seconds away from just throwing this thing into the damn ocean. [More static.] Oh yeah, you heard me. Don't think I won't do it, you obnoxious little--

[And then the feed just cuts out completely. Well then. That happened.]

[The feed opens on a Meowstic with the faintest tabby stripes, peering around the path as his tails swing blithely.]

Good old Floppington. He's grown quite a bit! And after his performance in assisting those poor wild Pokemon in Goldenrod, I think Esquire is no longer a title that does him justice. He looks a bit more like a "Warden Commander" now, doesn't he?

[Anders reaches to ruffle the tuft of fur atop Flop's head before turning the camera onto himself. His free hand raises to pull a few strands of loose hair out of his face and lingers there for a few seconds. Is he just shamelessly showing off the gleaming, jeweled ring on his finger? Absolutely.]

So. We're coming up on Ecruteak. Can anyone recommend a good place to train? Or a direction to head out of town once we're ready to leave?

[B]

[His mood is quite a bit more somber once it's dark, the bags under his eyes deeper and heavier; this clearly isn't his first sleepless night of recent. He's silent at first, sitting on the edge of camp and hoping he doesn't wake his partner, and for a while he contemplates shutting the feed back off before saying anything.

Eventually, though, he shifts a bit and frowns with worry, eyes not quite meeting the camera.]

I was hoping to ask for opinions on a... sensitive subject.

As everyone should know, it's now November. If you were not aware of that fact, I hope your coma was pleasant and not filled with traumatic discoveries.

[Cecil is making use of his Official Kingly Voice(tm), today. Or his Unofficial TV Presenter Voice(tm). The difference is hard to tell, sometimes.]

What you might not know is that November is a... special month. One that often involves unexplained visitors, unexplained cases of random teleportation, unexplained memory loss, and unexplained Legendary Pokémon who enjoy homemade sandwiches. Such incidents can occur anywhere in both Johto and Kanto, and they can last for days. During that time, this world's definition of 'normal' is unstable at best, and alarming at worst.

[As if it isn't already, but Cecil ignores that thought and continues.]

Your team is suddenly replaced by a school of Magikarps? That is normal, and they'll return to their regular species when it all ends. You live in Cerulean, but find yourself waking up in the Ice Cave? That is normal, and that is why you should wear warm clothing at all times until December. Your long dead grandmother is in your kitchen, commenting on your wallpaper? That is normal, and you should enjoy it while it lasts. You manage to walk from Ecruteak to Olivine within an hour? That is normal, and an excellent opportunity for spontaneous region tours. You wake up with holes in your memory? That is normal, and you should not panic unless your surroundings are damaged or unknown to you.

[Four or five years ago, those words would have been tinted with tired acceptance. But he's long past the tiredness, and it shows.]

This was your friendly November Public Service Announcement. Please enjoy your day.

[If you still can.]

Rare Pokeballs, huh?

[Snake had made the journey from Goldenrod south to reach Azalea Town. Both him and Kaz had been travelling together now for a good few months since entering Johto. Now, he was staring at the shop sigh which was advertising rare Pokeballs. Apricorns? What the hell were those?]

Anyone know what an Apricorn is? I'd like some of these rare Pokeballs.

[Because who wouldn't? He kept the feed on, as he walked around the town. DD started to bark, as he indicated the Ilex Forest Treetop Adventure Park. They had an theme park here? Good idea for the kids of the world.]

You want to go in there, boy?

[Snake looked past the entrance doors and noticed the zipline and climbable equipment including rope ladders. Damn, it looked enticing.]

Might be a good idea to get some exercise and training in. Anyone know if this park allows adults to go on their stuff?

[He directed the feed to anyone who may be interested. Also, Kaz, he wants to go in the park and behave like a giant kid with you. Rope ladders? Hell yeah.]

[Another year in Johto a month ago...and now, another birthday. Which is a strange thing to think about. Up until a few years ago, he hadn't even known the date of his own birth, hadn't even thought to wonder what it was. Back in Amestris, a homunculus' birth isn't something that anybody really wants to remember or celebrate, after all. But here? People have found it out, wheedled it out of him...people have remembered it, asked after it, thought that the fact that Envy was born was something important.]

[And for two years now, he's awkwardly accepted the couple of gifts and the well wishes he's gotten, but it had still felt strange to even acknowledge. But now, the third year he's known about the day...it feels a little more natural. He actually remembers what day it is without being reminded, and if any of his patched together little family brings it up, or does something for the occasion?]

[Well, maybe this year he'll react a little less like a cat who's just encountered a vacuum cleaner for the first time.]

[Text]

Hey, I've got a question for anyone who feels like answering. When you do things for somebody's birthday, what is it that you're celebrating about them? Is it that they managed to survive an extra year or that they were born in the first place or just because parties are fun or what?

What is it about a birthday that makes it something important?

[There is a cough from off-camera as Ralph tries to steady his Poke'Gear. His hands are shaking and the view of New Bark is one the people of Johto have seen hundreds of times by now. A shiny Growlithe with enormous eyebrows bounds into the frame and yaps excitedly.]

Ahehm! Aheherhum! Is this thing on? Heya ah...hello! Hi. Hello there. My name is...Do-Right Ralph. And I'm...new here.

[The Growlithe on-screen stops bounding around and tilts his head. His bushy tail stops wagging.]

The handbook that everybody gets said I should probably introduce myself! So! Hello! Uhm...

[A nervous cough.]

This is my starter. Carter. Does anybody have any...

.....

..........

...tips?

[Suddenly a Snubbull with a big red bow on one ear toddles into frame leading a fat Sandshrew by the paw. The Snubbull is waving around at all the sighs and chattering excitedly.]

STEVE BOSSY NO! GET OUT OF THE SHOT! You're ruining it!

[The duo jumps in alarm and Bossy wheels around and bristles as much as something without any fur can bristle, chattering several poke'profanities at her trainer. Steve, meanwhile, just looks hurt.]

Oh...oh, no, Steve. I didn't mean to yell. You're perfect, you're beautiful, you two go have a good time.....ah, nuts.

[Ralph finally flips the 'gear around to reveal himself. It's the same old Ralph, not some newbie--but there are some changes! For one, he isn't wearing his overalls. The boy's gotten himself a RIGHT AND PROPER PAIR OF JEANS. For another he's wearing a shirt advertising the TM Brick Break. There's a green bandanna around his neck and Nelly, his Slurpuff, is stuck to his shoulder. She isn't officially part of the outfit, she's just kind of there.]

Aw, who am I kiddin'? I was never cut-out to be an actor.

[He scrubs the back of his head. Great. Now he's gotta explain himself. Ralph sets his jaw and loses the bashful look in favor of a stern one.]

But I am serious about the Do-Right bit. I don't wanna hear Wreck-It any more! I'm not gonna wreck anything else if I can help it! Unless it is in a designated wrecking area. And I'm gettin' paid. That'd be kinda nice actually...

ANYWAY!

I guess...I guess what I wanted to say with this video and this get-up is I'm startin' over. I have a confession to make. Since day one of my being here, I've been part of a certain organization because I believed that's all I was good for. I let people tell me that for thirty long years back in my own world and I just let it keep on happenin' here. I tried to fight it at first, y'know? New world, new rules...but eventually I let the same old voices get me down. I wish...I wish I could apologize individually to every person I've hurt or stolen from. Pokemon aren't just things. And I know wishin' isn't going to get anything done. All I can do is promise from here on out things are gonna be different.

If anyone who's known me all these years feels differently about me now...well...I can't blame you.

[Steve, Bossy, and Carter move into the frame behind Ralph.]

But if a numbskull like me can eventually figure out that you decide what kinda role you play in the world, I think anybody can.

Thanks for listnin' I guess.

[He quickly raises a finger.]

And don't try to arrest me! I've already done my time, thanks!

Video

[It doesn't take him too long to finagle with this new machine, eventually finding a way to create a video. Great. Excellent start.

He doesn't put the camera on himself but on his surroundings, recording everything around him.]

My name is Kira Yoshikage. I think what happened... well, it doesn't matter. I come from a town called Morioh and probably got washed up here. I'm a little confused about my surroundings and these creatures. [The camera turns to the Lapras, who leans in to push her snout into the phone. Large sniffs can be heard that muffle the audio for a moment. His voice is just made out, as he tells the creature to stop that.]

Anywaaaay... I got a brief explanation and while this is all weird I'm hoping that maybe someone else got washed up here with me. Someone who also came from Morioh. Uh, Morioh is a really small town in Japan, if that helps at all. If he's here or not it will give me a clear idea on my current situation. I don't want to draw any drastic conclusions until then.

Soooooo, thanks ahead of time. [The video cuts out.]

[Action]

[He finishes his video, stepping back before the Lapras can shove her nose into it again. Yeah, he learned that this was his. She's... she's pretty big. She's got big flippers so she's not going to be able to go far unless she's in the water. And she's really friendly.

She's nothing he's ever seen before in his whole life. But he can conclude that she's some kind of sea faring thing. Inside his backpack he found some interesting things but the most useful seems to be a notebook and pen. This is perfect. If nothing else he can start documenting what he's found here.

He's also learned that he can point this thing at these creatures and he'll gather information about them. So this is what he knows:

Lapras: The Transport Pokémon. People have driven Lapras almost to the point of extinction. In the evenings, this Pokémon is said to sing plaintively as it seeks what few others of its kind still remain.

Well, that's pretty sad. He doesn't even really understand what's going on here but he's been given some near extinct creature and a book on breeding. The answer is kind of obvious, huh? He's here because there is work to be done. He did all he could in Morioh and now he's here with a clear task at hand.

This is bizarre and a lot to take in, no doubt, but he's never been one to fight the current. It's better to go along with it. Fate is fate. What happens when you try and stop the inevitable? You end up in a situation like this.]

I don't know about you, Lapras. But I can take a hint. [She wiggles about in response. He can't help but smile. He takes out his notebook and put's the pen behind his ear, it's time to get to work.

If you happen to be in New Bark Town you'll find this young man, dressed in a sailor suit, fussing with his Lapras. Measuring her like you would a horse, with hands. He fusses with her shell, shoves his face into her mouth to see if she has teeth and if they're sharp. Around and around this creature he goes, taking down notes whenever he learns something new.]

You may need to call out to him more than once as he's a little lost in his work. But his Lapras will notice you right away and will start to sing immediately.]

Have you ever had a Pokemon that's practically family? More than a pet or friend or working partner. They have their own thoughts and feelings, and the Psychic-type ones are particularly good at expressing their thoughts.

Some of us have been here for years, after all, and some of us have had Pokemon we've grown close to. It's not like I want to marry my Pokemon or something, but it's... strange.

Maybe I'm more at home here than I thought.

While the ghosts of whatever had befallen her in another life still remained -- her eyes are still sad, and the hair on the side of her head has yet to make any significant strides growth wise -- this time, she was smiling at whoever found her feed.]

[Also since her last post, her flock had increased. Behind her, a blue flabebe floated by, occasionally brushing over Angel with her flower. Each time, Angel's eyes crinkled, a laugh catching in her throat. An eevee, still rather young, rested in her lap, napping pleasantly. A sentret scurried around beside her, chasing after Mari in a simple game of tag.]

Hello, friends. It has been awhile since my last post. [At the sound of her voice, each pokemon stopped what it was doing, giving her a quick glance before going about their business once more.] I figured it best to post something a bit more positive after my last... announcement.

[The feed opens up on Asriel's face - hey, wasn't this the kid who freaked out when his Natu made a post on here by accident? - and he looks absolutely enthused by something. Judging by the stacks of electronic merchandise and the Rotom that twirls in the air behind him, he's in the Goldenrod Department Store. The Floette who sits in his hair, as opposed to the Flabebe he may have been seen with before, waves before looking back up at whatever is in front of them.]

Howdy! [He's whispering, and holds a finger up to his mouth.] This place is really big, I never knew a store could be so big! And look!

[The 'gear is spun around to show one of a wall of televisions showing the opening number of "Beautifly and the Legendary Beast" in glorious animated HD.]

[The feed opens on... a cat. A pink cat, stretched out over a shoulder bag, her tongue just barely peeking out, cream belly in the air, and front legs facing in opposite directions of the back.

Hey, he figures it would grab his attention, so why shouldn't it work on everyone else? Because there's such a history of everyone agreeing with him.

Only after the Skitty yawns and turns over, away from the camera, does he rotate it around in his hands and peer down at it, himself. He's pretty sure at this point that no templars followed him, but that remains to be seen.]

Good boy, DD. Sit. There you go.

[The feed will now be showing Snake feeding his obedient Mightyena, DD, a nice juicy berry. The Pokémon has been training hard the last few weeks in and around Goldenrod, so it's only natural that it's trainer gives him a reward in the form of a berry. All of Snake's Pokémon had been given berries but DD seemed to like them more than the rest. The old soldier hitched up the video feed to slide his face into the camera.]

Anyone want to battle me? I'm not sure how it works around here but I think I'm ready to battle another trainer now. My Pokémon are itching to fight and they're not the only one.

[He was a soldier. He was itching to fight he meant. Not as much fight but gauge his Pokémon against someone else's.]

If anyone wants to battle me, I'm in Goldenrod at the moment. If you want to battle me on the routes just outside I can work with that too.

[He felt DD licking at his hand while he spoke. Another berry? Snake smiled and threw him a red one, seeing the dog jump up and clamp it in his jaws. Such a good dog.]

I'm on video and walking around outside the Pokémon Centre. It'll be good to get back into the fight again. [Because he craves that?]

I still don't understand how this works, but... Here it goes, I suppose.

[Figuring out how this new device worked was still taking some getting used to, but Bertolt had eventually managed to get it to stop taking 'portraits' of the ground, feet and parts of his face as he fiddled with it. Now he has it to where it's actually recording, or so he assumes, but he's not really sure where to point it so he settles on the trees and occasionally, a small black and orange puppy.]

I'm guessing this is a long shot, but I'd like to know something. One, uh... Has anyone seen some people wearing blue and white wings on the back of their coats? Or a green cloak with the same pattern? O-Or anyone by the name of Reiner Braun? I don't know how it happened, but... [Bertolt sighs softly, the camera jostling as he kneels down to coax the puppy over. It doesn't hesitate to shove its face into his hand and even though it can't be seen, it does manage to get a smile out of him.]

The second, I was wondering if anyone lost their dog...? Or I think it's supposed to be a dog, I mean... It doesn't really have normal dog markings, does it? It's been following me for awhile and it listens to commands really well, but I don't know if I could take care of it very well. I've never had a dog before.

[Maybe if Titans weren't so much of a threat he could have one.]
