Hello there everyone, my name is Pamela Isley.

I arrived yesterday and I have been doing some reading. It appears there is a whole sub division of these creatures based on plant life. Referred to as 'Grass', I believe? I'm not entirely sure how accurate is it to name a whole diverse sub species after Poaceae but I am a little out of my element here.

Anyway, I would be very interested in collecting some information on this specific type. If you have one of the vast array of specimens that fall into this 'Grass typing' please tell me about them. Also, if anyone would be kind enough let me know where I could find some for myself that would be very helpful.

Action [Route 29]
Ivy is sat in the grass, watching her newly caught Hoppip dance and spin around with a bunch of its fellows. She scribbles notes furiously in her book with her brow furrowed in thought, her Bulbasaur watching her with keen interest.

Occasionally, she pulls out her PokeGear to look at something, or consults the book she has laid out beside her.

To answer your last question first, I've found that the Ilex forest is one of the best places to catch grass pokemon. It is directly west of Azalea town and leads to route 34. I'm certain there are other place with many grass pokemon too, but if you are making that type your goal, then I would certainly encourage a visit to the forest.

In fact, it is where I caught my Oddish. I could tell you about that evolutionary line if you want. It's not a pure grass type though. It's poison / grass.

I've got a lot of Grass-Types. Five or six at least. Only two are pure Grass-types and the rest are dual types, like Twigs. He's a pretty big guy. There's literally a tree sprouting from his shell.

Bulbasaur's have buds and flowers coming from their backs, come to think of it. Oddish and it's line have flowers too. [ pause ] A lot of Grass-types have leaves or flowers coming off of their bodies in different ways, honestly.

If you intend to specialize in Grass-types you'll have no trouble finding new species as you journey, though you'll find a far greater variety in forests. They're disadvantaged against Bug-, Flying-, Ice-, Fire- and Poison-types, but secondary types are common enough and can often counter those weaknesses.

[Perhaps that's too generic for an introduction? She did say she's done some reading, after all.]

I can personally recommend the Chikorita, Petilil, Tangela, Lileep, Deerling, Chespin, Phantump and Budew lines. They've never disappointed me, and I know for a fact that they breed strong children.

I suppose "plant Pokemon" might be a more exact name, yes. I have three of them myself!

Seedy was my first Pokemon. When we first met, he was a Sunkern, a small yellow seed with black stripes. He could not move much on his own at that time; I imagine that in the wild they are tended closely by their parents. He evolved when he was exposed to a Sun Stone. Now he is a Sunflora - very much like an ambulatory sunflower.

Wisp is the only one of the three who is not a pure Grass type. She is a Phantump, part-Ghost. She appears to be a black ghost inhabiting a small tree stump? I understand that she can evolve as well, but she has not yet.

Daisy is my newest Pokemon. She only hatched a few days ago. All Pokemon hatch from eggs, regardless of their appearance. She is a Gogoat, a species like a goat with leaves growing from around her neck. It seems her coloration is extremely rare for her kind. That happens sometimes, I hear, with these eggs that appear from nowhere.

There's plenty of Grass Pokemon if you go into the forests, especially Ilex forest. It's at the bottom of the Johto map if you look at that.

oh yeah! There's also a national park up past Goldenrod City that I think has some grass pokemon? But I think there's less there due to the bug pokemon that live there. So, uh, it depends on if you want to see some of the bug types too, I guess.

[Jean is using video because he's proud of his grass types, and at least one needs to be seen to be believed.]

I have three grass types. This is Blume...

[Behold the majestic Ivysaur, who raises one paw and waves in a friendly fashion.]

This is Burrito...

[She has a small Lotad standing beside her, dwarfed by her bulk. It's shyer, and ducks behind one of Blume's massive legs.]

And this is Colossal Treetrunk!

[Jean's voice rises in delight as he spans his camera up, and up, and up, until it's focused on the Alolan Eggecutor's face. Faces. Whatever.]

and I've got a Carnivine which is a giant hovering venus flytrap who likes to sneak up on people when they least expect it, and I've never seen another one anywhere else

O-oh yes absolutely.

My name is Jinx and I've followed your work for a few years now. You are one of the most impressive women of my time.

[Laying it on a little thick perhaps but Jinx is a fangirl first and a villainess second.]

Say hi, Stan Junior!

[They're out in bright daylight, smack dab in Goldenrod. As she waves, so does a giant pumpkin-plant-thing with it's... hair? leaf? Leaf hair.]

Isn't he soooooo cute?

Not in the least. When I gave him the Sun Stone, he simply...glowed, and transformed into his current shape. He showed no signs of growth before that. I was told it was normal.

No, not at all! Pokemon with two typings are simply more versatile in the abilities they can learn. Wisp can use both grass magic and ghost magic, for example...though that is probably not the term they would use here.

I believe so, though of course I doubt I know every type. Several do seem more akin to fungi, but they are also considered grass-types.

I can't make claim to have seen everything of this world yet, and undoubtedly there are species that will go against this, but in general I'd say they can be found in forested or grassy areas. It's a bit further out, but one of the Sevii islands is also host to various grass type pokemon.

All right, lets see. Mostly Oddish are nocturnal in nature. During the day, they burrow into rich soils with only their leaves showing, but at night they will walk about to spread their seeds and find a new patch of soil to plant themselves in. In the darker parts of the Ilex forest, they are also active during the day though. I suppose the shadows put them at ease.

I think a lot of people might underestimate the capabilities of an Oddish in battle. It's true they don't have a lot of physical power. In terms of sheer strength, they won't stand up to some other grass types like your bulbasaur, but I'd say an oddish's strength lies in its ability to inflict a wide variety of status effects with ease. They can inflict poison, sleep and stun on other pokemon by using their spores, and by using their sweet scent attack they can put opponents in a state of relaxation where they'll find it much harder to dodge their attacks. Further more, they have several attacks that allow them to absorb the health of an opponent and use that to regenerate their own. If you don't mind fighting battles of attrition, they can be a very valuable pokemon to add to your team. They can also work well in tandem with others by using an oddish or one of its evolutions to inflict status effects while using a second pokemon to deal physical attacks.

Plus, well, I suppose this might not be the most relevant thing, but I always thought they looked really cute. Glooms too, though my Holly hated being one.
