[Well, there's one more badge down. Time to move on again. And stop waiting around, once more.]

Shiro here. I'm finally on my way to Goldenrod. So... anyone I promised I'd stop in and see, I'll let you know when I get there. But I don't think I'll be sticking around like I planned, after all.

[Because after repeated attempts to contact the person he'd thought would be most excited about this development didn't go through... well. It just sort of feels hollow.]

There's a pastry shop that makes some really, really nice bienenstich, but they call it a different name here. It's called Beedrill-Sting cake, but it's not as scary as it sounds.

There's another really good one too, but, uh... How long are you going to be staying? When I was there I had to wait a couple days to get it, but it was worth it.

It doesn't sound all that scary, actually. It sounds interesting About as long as it takes to get the next badge. So there'll probably be time.

I was supposed to meet someone there for a while. They aren't answering their 'gear. So... guess those plans are cancelled. Might as well just keep going.

[Armin knows what that means. He doesn't know exactly who it is that has left --many people seem to slip away quiet as can be; Terezi had gone in a similar fashion-- but they clearly were a friend of Shiro's.]

[And that is... all he can say, can't he? At the very least, he can't offer Shiro comforting words like 'I'm sure they will be back soon'. None of them can be sure of that and he figures living with an empty hope would only be more painful in the end. He's always tried handling Jean's hope that Marco might come here in a similar fashion: confirm that it is indeed possible, but while trying not to fan his hopes too much.

He also doesn't just want to leave it on that awkward note though, so:]

Have you... thought about where you will be going after Goldenrod yet? [It is important to keep focusing on the road ahead, right?]

It's... yeah. It's fine. I'm used to it.

[It's not fine. It smacks so hard of the others he's lost. Of the faces he'd promised to save, or always thought he'd see again. The times he'd had to see them go.]

Whichever city comes next. I get the feeling Kuro's not ready to stop earning badges.

I'm not sure if these things necessarily get less painful even if you've experienced them a lot.

[That is what everybody says, but Armin hasn't noticed it so much himself. The titans still terrify him no matter how often he meets them. He might be able to manage that fear better, but it hasn't disappeared. Watching people die... no, that hasn't gotten easier either.]

Did you arrive in Goldenrod via the north or the south?
