13th Zapfish [Video; Goldenrod City]

[It's quite clear that when the 'Gear starts up, it's not Thida who's filming it, because she's the one being filmed. The edge of a Malamar's tentacle pokes into the view as it spies on the trainer from around a corner, back to the camera, carefully holding a guitar in her hands even though it's probably a bit too big for her to properly use. She twists the tuning knobs with the utmost care, plucks a string, pauses to listen to the sound, and then returns to the knobs again. She's picking out sounds by ear, it seems, for after a few repetitions of this she slowly, carefully plucks out the beginning of a tune before her fingers slip, and she flinches at the incorrect chord.

The view shifts, and a Malamar takes up the screen. She clicks her beak twice, softly, before she begins to glow with the subtlety of Psychic powers.]

I would like to make a request for my trainer. She is too proud to ask...but she would like lessons in her instrument. The Father Squidmas brought it to her and it is important. [There's a pause as the Malamar looks to her trainer again.] She does everything for us. Helps us become stronger, listens to us, plays with us when she would rather be inside. And she has many troubles. I would like to help them become less heavy.

[With that, the Malamar lowers the 'gear, but doesn't turn it off, and goes out to meet Thida, making a trilling sound. The young girl looks up, and immediately smiles.] Hi, Maika. Whatcha doin'? [She blinks when the Pokemon hands over her Poke'gear, and takes it, noting that it is indeed on.] Y'makin' a movie? [There's a pause, and Thida giggles, presumably at her Pokemon's expression.] 'Kay, y're all done, then. [She turns to the 'gear herself and waves.] Hope y'liked her movie! Bye!

[ He nodded. No point lying to her. ]

Yeah. She said that you take real good care of her and the rest of your team, so she wanted to see if someone could teach ya since the guitar was from home. She didn't say it was your Dads or anything like that though. Just that she wanted to see you happy, and she thought you'd be happy if you could play it.

Which I get. I mean...when I'm lonely here, I still think of people from home like my dad. And...I think you get that too, right?

[ He could see she was retreating so...yeah, let's just go all in. ]

Thida, dya remember that forest that popped up? With all the ghosts and shit in it, when everyone was having bad dreams? Cos, I remember seeing you there. And look, I know this is personal and I wasn't meant to see anything but. [ He sighed, looking down at his own guitar now. ]

I honestly thought it was just, another one of my dreams. I used to dream about that a lot back home; being on my own and waiting for someone to come back. Curling up somewhere cold and empty and just, waiting. And half the time I was scared in case someone I didn't know turned up. I mean. I still sometimes do dream of that, when I'm not having a good time. But this isn't me asking about it or about where you've come from. If you wanna chat about it someday then I'll be down to listen. But if you don't then that's fine too.

I'm just trying to say that I get it. [ He ran a hair through his hair, a nervous tick cos he had no idea if he was saying the right thing or making it worse. ]

Yeah. I never talked about it much. You tell someone you sleep rough, they just...kinda take that for it is. They don't know the details or what that means.

Like I said, we don't have to talk about it right now. Or ever. I just wanted you to know that you're not alone in that. And like...in my case, it's not because my dad was a bad man. He had to go. I dunno what the situation was with your folks but...I'm gonna guess your dad wasn't bad either.

[ She was happy to get that guitar. And he knew that this kind of situation wasn't clear cut. His dad really did have to leave him, so he could get money and food so they could survive. Ash didn't know Thida's story, but he knew that he couldn't assume 'oh, her parents left her alone, they're the fucking worst'. ]

[ He lifted his eyes, giving her a soft, understanding smile ] Me too. I miss my dad a lot - he wouldn't be able to believe this place. [ He hadn't when he'd come here for that weird weekend. ]

So yeah. If you wanna learn guitar, I can teach ya. No charge or anything. And, if you need anything at all, you got my number yeah?

Totally. Hell, once you've got it down I can teach you some songs too.

Well my dad was big on folk and indie music, and he taught me about songs from his homeland too. Celtic stuff! I liked a bit of rock as well, which is why I got the electric guitar back home. But I found that it's kinda cool to mix up which guitar you use for em, see how they sound with the different instrument and all.

My dad actually played violin as well, and he loved to sing. He was just super talented when it came to musical stuff. What did your dad used to play? Apparently stuff from other worlds like, crosses over at times; I've found music really, really similar to what I know int he shops around here sometimes. [ Maybe they could find some of the songs Thida grew up with too? ]

[ Do it and introduce them to Ash, he'll dig it so hard ]

Celtic ah...it's, basically this culture that's rooted in Ireland, which is where my dad's from. The music normally has violins in it and like...deep sounding back tracks, with a higher instrument leading the way and being more sort of energetic, if that makes sense. It's basically folk music for a specific place, but people mix it with other genres to make new stuff. There is one I know just off by heart, if you wanna hear it. It's about seaweed.

[ Ash smiled and nodded, beginning to strum. His family had always played music. Family get-togethers didn't seem complete until they had ended up singing something as a group. ]

It's all in Irish but you don't always need to get the lyrics to like it, right? And I only have the one instrument, not a whole band here!

[ Well who could say no to that? Ash hummed, and then began to sing. His singing got the attention of Psychopump the Pumpkaboo, who floated up to the bed. She listened and began to join in on the second chorus with him. ]

[ Ash finished the song and smiled at Psychopump, lowered a hand to pet her. She approved, floating up and trying to fit herself into his lap, along with the guitar. ]

Really it needs more instruments to get the point across, but it's that kind of beat.
