[The video opens and it's at a peaceful little cottage. The video stream was a little shaky because the person holding it was clearly freaking out just a little bit because something just happened that freaked him out considerably.]

U-um.. I was.. I'm watching the cottage, for Mr. Scamander a-and I know I can.. I can reach people on the Network and I don't want to bother him because. I.. I'm sure this is fine but..

It pans over and there's a Braixen, paws on her hips, head tilted curiously at Credence. Really? You were just going to take a video instead of using the gear to see what happened? She just evolved!! She had been struggling against nature for awhile but these things happened, Credence.

Except to Credence they didn't and now Tina was a different creature and he was confused.]

This is... It's a stupid question. I just.. don't know why this happened or how or what to do.

How did what happen?

[His tone is kindly. He liked Credence well enough when they had first met. And he knows the other is new. Armin just... really isn't certain what he is asking about. All he can see is a video of a Braixen, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with her. She looks well taken care of, to be honest.]

Did something happen to your pokemon?

I.. I don't know how to explain.. Tina was here this morning and then.. and then this was here instead, I don't know.. it looks like her, kind of, but.. Could it be her mother?

[ Tina places her red paws over her face, shaking her head. Oh, Credence.. You never did manage to get through the trainer handbook... ]

[It doesn't take too long for Armin to catch onto what must have happened. Well, he was new here after all. And they all had to see their first evolution at some point. Or the aftermath of it.]

No, I think that that is Tina.

Credence, have you ever heard about Pokemon evolution?

No.. No, I haven't.. I just.. I thought some were.. bigger..?

[ Evolution... This was strange. ]

[ Tina was nodding, holding her paws together. Still her!! Really! ]

Most species of Pokemon are able to evolve at least once -- though there are some species that aren't able to at all -- and while the changes can be really surprising sometimes, deep down inside, they'll still be the same Pokemon as before.

Of course, you can always keep them from evolving if you want. There are ways to do that too.

[Ivy is in Cianwood right now, resting her feet while her lover is off, probably trying to talk to a flock of Wingull. She smiles at Credence from the other side of the screen.]

I don't understand. I don't know why this is... that this is congratulatory. I'm not sure if that is even Tina.. It looks... I don't understand.

[ Tina pads over, reaching to try and put a comforting paw on Credence but he startles. This was weird. What happened? ]

I.. I don't know where my handbook is. I can't--Oh..

[ The Braixen was fetching it for him, trying to give it to him. ]

It's definitely Tina, my dear. She's just a bit bigger now. You weren't always as tall as you are now, were you?

You're a clever boy with a book and lots of people ready to offer help it seems. So, why don't you tell me what's happened?

[She smiles patiently.]

[ Credence takes the book and opens it. He wanted to find the page, even though other people were sending him messages about what was happening. Tina seats herself next to him, pointing with furry fingers at the right lines. ]

It.. It says that.... some.. Pokemon e.. .. evol-vee? Evolve and become stronger with.. training.. but I wasn't training her..?

It looks like she's just evolved. You can use the pokedex to find out more information about her evolved form. From the looks of it, she seems pretty happy about it.

[Hermione waves at Braixen.]

[ Tina waves back with both paw-hands then runs over to help Credence with the gear. He tenses, because what even... But lets her help. This behavior was familiar. ]

I... I didn't know this.. I didn't know about... I. ... I wish Mr. Scamander was here, it would make things easier.

[ The Braixen smiles up at him. You could do it, Credence! ]

[Oh goodness he's worse than Neville! Hermione gives Credence a friendly, comforting smile.]

It's okay, there's nothing to worry about. Pokemon evolve at various times for a multitude of different reasons - because their body is ready, because they want to, because they're exposed to a certain condition that prompts evolution...its really quite normal.

And see, she's quite content. I'm sure Newt will be extremely happy to know you took such good care of his pokemon that they felt comfortable evolving around you.

[Hermione is trying her best to put him at ease.]

I. ... Tina is mine...

[ He felt.. awkward now. Though it wasn't surprising, Tina was more suited to Newt wasn't she? She was smart and strong and adapted well and oh, maybe Newt would be better for her..

Tina trots over and takes the gear so she can sit in his lap. Credence lets her hold it and he sets his arms around her like he often did with Modesty back home. ]

I'm glad she ... she felt comfortable.. I don't know what I did though... Will she do this again?

I... I've been told that.. yes.. I'm confused. I don't know what I did or why but...

She can help me with more things now I suppose..?

Have you been working with her, helping her train and grow? For many, that's all they need.

No.. I.. I just help around the cottage and she helps me too. She plays with the other Pokemon here, could that have caused it..?

It seems Tina has been working rather hard when so she can be more of a help to you, Credence.

[It's said gentle, kindly, Newt smiling as he addresses his charge--his assistant whom he's grown quite fond of since inviting the young man to live with him.

He really should have made sure Credence understood the concept of Pokemon evolution prior to this. Curses.]

And there is no such thing as a stupid question, Credence. All questions are valid, especially if you are unsure of something.

[His smile grows a bit as he focuses on Tina.]

[ Tina fluffs her cheek fur up, smiling bashfully at Newt. He knew so much about Pokemon and saw so many that it was nice to get a compliment from someone she deemed an expert.

Credence pets her ears gently, glad that she responded the same even though she was on two feet instead of four now. ]

It's just the nature of Pokemon is all. It's how they've adapted to the world and what the world requires of them. Much like how creatures where we come from have evolved over time and adapted to new environments and changes. Though back home it tends to be a slower process in a sense.

[Queenie pokes her head into the video on Newt's end as he speaks and let's out an excited nose, waving at Tina before pressing her paws to her cheeks. Oh Tina look at you!

Her gushing draws Salazar the Noivern over and he peers over Newt's shoulder, ears perking before flicking in a delighted manner. Good on you, Tina!]

Evolution is a sign of growth and development. In some Pokemon it can be a sign of affection towards their trainer as well.

God created the creatures back home.

[ He sounded as if he were reciting it. Creationism was included there. Please fix this boy. ]

You should call your friend if you think he might know what you're worried about. If he's your friend, he won't mind.

A lot of people have been helpful.. She apparently.. evolved..? And it might happen again so I shouldn't be alarmed..

[ He pets Tina's head. She was close to Newt's height now. ]

Mr. Scamander called too, I'm very glad to have so many people that were willing to help...

That's what friends do. They help each other.

I'm.. not entirely used to it, it seems. But hopefully it will become more comfortable.

[ Tina looks very pleased, spinning so Newt can get a good look at her. Hopefully when they saw each other again she'd be even bigger! ]
