Who: Sion and Ryner
Where: Collegiate Gym
When: June 30th
Summary: Someone decided that Sion needed a kitten...
Rating: G?
Log:
One thing that had been admittedly convenient about the mysterious scavenger hunt had been the excuse to go to a few places Sion rarely visited. Which of course meant picking up any interesting books he spotted along the way.
Of course, that also meant said books had to be sorted, cataloged, and shelved in the gym's library. And unsurprisingly, Ryner had apparently made little progress while Sion had been out and about.
Which was, in turn, why the two of them (at Sion's insistence) were now in the middle of finally shelving the books in question, after finally having sorted through the pile that had accumulated. Sion himself was nearing the end of his current stack when a small noise made him pause. Setting the books down in a stack on an empty shelf, he opened the small bag at his side that contained the egg Rose had apparently seen fit to buy him. (Without consulting either him or Ryner, of course.) Sure enough, there was the beginnings of a small crack just visible, and even as Sion looked the egg twitched slightly and the crack grew larger.
The book-shelving promptly forgotten, Sion took out the egg to set it out in an open space on the floor to watch. Clearly this was far more important at the moment, after all.

That said, Ryner had been working through his own stack with minimal grumbling - he was trying, really - but paused when he noticed Sion being distracted by the egg. (The egg that Rose had bought for Sion with Ryner's money without asking, not that he really minded that much if he was honest.)
...It had been a while, since the last time an egg had hatched around here. So after finishing putting the book currently in his own hands in its proper place, he wandered over to Sion's side. It would be interesting to see what came out, at least. Rose hadn't actually seen fit to tell him what kind of egg she'd gotten for Sion...
"It's hatching?" he said, more of an observation than a question.
no subject
"Yeah," he said automatically, even as a large crack split a good way down the egg's length.
no subject
(If it was a fish or something and Rose hadn't told him, he swore...)

"Hello, there," Sion said, giving the newly-hatched pokemon a friendly smile while holding out his hand to it.
no subject
"Hi," he said with a small wave, though he stayed back. This was Sion's cat, after all. No reason to confuse that part.
no subject
"Well, I suppose I'll take that as a 'hello'..." Sion said with a bit of a wry look. He didn't look terribly disappointed by this turn of events, though.
no subject
"Likes you already," Ryner observed with a smile that bordered on teasing. He was glad, though. Friendly was better than not. "Guess we'll want to get some balls of yarn, or something."

"...But, ahh, I'm pretty sure it's my turn to take care of the shopping next anyway, so it's just one more thing."
no subject
At the moment though, his attention is pretty firmly focused on the newly-hatched pokemon in his lap, rather than the potential for putting on a melodramatic act.
"Well, I suppose that wouldn't be too much even for you to manage..."
Okay, apparently he's not so distracted he can't continue to tease a little.
no subject
...He was going to regret responding to Sion's teasing. He already knew. And yet he did so anyway.
no subject
Yep, Ryner was definitely going to regret it, Sion would make sure of that. Or at least as much as he could without disturbing the meowth.
no subject
"Are you really going to start with that right now?" It was less actively irritating coming from Sion in private and more just a routine he was resigned to, but it was still tiresome.
no subject
Of course Sion had a comeback to fire back immediately. Then again, was that a hint of something more than just teasing in that? It might be hard to be sure, since despite the banter Sion's primary attention remained firmly fixed on the meowth.

"Don't you still have books to put away?"
Nevermind that he clearly had no intention of moving from his spot right now.
no subject
"Ahh, fine, I'll get back to that," he said in his usual tired tone, already turning back toward the table where the books were.
...He didn't dare say it aloud, but after a thought, he shrugged a little and then got to work. He might as well take care of what was left of Sion's stack too, just this once. Let him relax with his new friend for now.
no subject
For now, though, he had a newly hatched meowth falling asleep in his lap, which clearly demanded his attention for the moment.
"I suppose you'll need a name..." he muttered to himself.
no subject
So Ryner didn't respond, instead picking up a book, giving it a once-over, and putting it on its proper shelf.
no subject
The meowth, however, merely yawned indifferently. Not that Sion seemed remotely put off by that, to judge from the expression on his face.

He picked up the next book and, on glancing at the cover and not recognizing it, casually flipped it open to a random page to see what it was about. Hopefully, he'd have the sense to leave it at a single page, but... well, there was a reason things were this far behind in the first place.
