I did it! The first step to the all-Elite team Badge Challenge has been complete~!

[She holds up the Plain Badge.] It was such a wild battle, it took everything we had but we did it! And Ampharos and I synced up so well, we Mega Evolved! Gosh that was fun.

And another note, now that I got everyone here, my manga has been shipped out to stores! Look for Magical Knight Lily everyone, in stores now!

Yeah, but one step at a time. I'll be challenging on a monthly basis, when I feel ready and all.

Yeah, it's a manga. A comic book for Japanese audiences, but it's basically a comic book in novel size.

Oh? I've seen that many of the bookstores sell comics, but I've never looked into them in particular, myself...

No, considering I only still have 6 Pokemon. We have to challenge after preparing for a few weeks.

Well, perhaps we should get a copy for the gym's library, at least. It wouldn't hurt to have some variety, and we've always wanted to showcase works from people from other worlds, anyway.

Oh it's wild. The opposite team is all level 100 and they have tons of skills, and the usual cheesing doesn't work. You really have to be secure in your team to defeat a elite challenge.

Having faith in your team is the best place to start really. It really helps quite a lot to be honest.

I don't see why anyone wouldn't have faith in them...we're all sort of mashed in with our Pokemon in this place, so they're kind of our go-to allies.

Congratulations! It sounds like it was quite a challenge.

I've heard about mega-evolution but never seen it in action. How does it work exactly?

It's the power of friendship! If you're super close to your Pokemon, and have your hearts in sync during the battle, then you can transform that bond of yours into a mega evolution. The closer your bond with your Pokemon is, the stronger they become, and that also applies to Pokemon who aren't able to mega evolve either.

I understand the strength of a bond between trainers and pokemon, but how exactly does one sync their hearts in battle? Surely the bond exists outside of a battle - why doesn't the evolution remain then?

It's a temporary power up, and while not every Pokemon can do it, it basically means that during battle, a trainer and Pokemon become excited, their hearts and bodies move together in such a way that it makes it possible. And mega evolving becomes as easy as breathing.

So it requires a combination of the strength of a bond with your pokemon and the heat of the battle? Surely if that's all that's required, most trainers would be able to mega evolve all their pokemon in every battle then?

You'd think so but mega evolving is a phenomenon that occurs in only a few Pokemon, not as many as one would expect. Also, the bond has to be incredibly tight, with 0 trust issues. Any trust issues would damage the bond that is required to mega evolve.

So regardless of whether there is a perfect bond and combination of events, a pokemon may never mega evolve? That seems strange. Unless some pokemon are further down the evolution chain than others...

Is there a specific list of which ones can mega evolve?

That's right, there's some that just can't right now, and don't have any Mega Stones that might facilitate the energy needed to pass between Pokemon and Trainer.

There should be some lists somewhere. I know there's some such as my Mega Ampharos, Mega Blaziken, Mega Gyarados and others. I'm sure there's some in a library somewhere.
