[You know what's great about beaches? They've got beautiful shorelines, fantastic sunsets (and sunrises), and they're especially nice to take a nap on.
Unfortunately isn't one of those beaches.
At first the only view is of a few craggy rocks and the waves that violently crash against them, but the scene is interrupted by a low rumble of thunder off in the distance and an even deeper growl from close by as the pokegear moves. At first the cause isn't known but soon enough a large tail curls its way into view, the action jostling it in just the right way to show Bertolt tucked up against the side of a slightly golden Aggron and prompts him to silently pick it up.
He's... Well, Bertolt has clearly seen better days. Between the light drizzle of rain that started up some twenty odd minutes ago and the way his former long-sleeved shirt has been torn into a t-shirt of sorts, he's a piece of work. But hey, at least the 3DMG harness he had been wearing back home was in one piece? ...Sort of. It's definitely not going to be usable, but getting rid of it was the last thing on his mind at the moment. He's tired, okay? Home was r o u g h.
For a long moment he just sort of stares at the pokegear, and it's only when the Aggron nudges the back of his head and snorts that he snaps out of his daze. Right--]
Hey, um...
[Another crack of thunder and Bertolt shudders, drawing himself into a tighter ball and scooting closer to the larger Pokemon.]
I-I, uh... I don't really know where I am, but I think I'm stuck out here. The last thing I remember was being up in Blackthorn, but this... [His brows knit together and he gives sort of a half-shrug.] I woke up here about an hour ago.
[And the last time he checked, Blackthorn wasn't in the middle of the ocean.]
I don't have any other Pokemon with me. It's just me and Reiner, and he's not the best swimmer so I'm, uh, not sure how to get back.

[The boy is a walking lightning rod at his height. Sasha is truly worried Bertolt will end up crispy before they manage to get him back on the mainland.]
What happened? [To her, back home means the place they've all lived for the past three or four years. It sounds like something bad happened, but when does anything not bad happened back there?] Is it Connie? Is Connie okay? Mikasa? Eren?

[Driftwood from far off places, sure, but he hasn't seen any trees on this part of the island. He's seen nothing but craggy rocks and sand.
The mention of Mikasa earns a light grimace - one easily explained by a gust of wind and a splatter of raindrops in his face - and Bertolt reaches up to rub at his ear. Thank the gods it grew back, otherwise that'd be hard to explain.]
Nothing happened to them.

[Bertolt can't just disappear and come back and say that and not expect his squadmates to think the worst. So many bad things can happen back home with so very few good things at the same time. If people are fine, then what else could be bad?]

Still, it's probably better to just be blunt with it.]
...I died.

[She heard the words he said, but none of them make any damn sense. Dead people stay dead. They die, they get cremated on the pyres, and most of all, they stay freaking dead. They don't come into this world, still kicking. That just doesn't happen.]

[Even though he's already repeating it to himself in his head, it's different when it's spoken out loud.
He looks tired, and Bertolt drops his gaze from the 'gear to pick at his torn sleeve - it's almost too clean of a cut, but "titans" did have some sharp teeth in some cases.]
I knew it was coming, but I didn't know how until then.
