2nd Recipe [Olivine City, Video]
[It's definitely evident in this video that Jane's begun to settle in to the world of Pokemon. She's got her 'gear propped up so it can film her as she sits cross-legged on a bed (obviously in the Olivine Inn, for anyone who's ever stayed), backpack leaning against the pillow behind her, and she is all smiles.]
Hello again! This is Jane, for those of you who didn't see my, erm...grumpy introduction a few weeks ago. But yes, ah, so! I'm alright, my friend Dirk managed to pick me up on Route 31 and now I'm staying with him and some of our...relations, I guess you could call them, in Olivine City! It's really beautiful...but then again, this whole region is full to bursting with plants and people and Pokemon...
[She pauses, having caught herself gesturing as she spoke so excitedly, and blushes.]
Um, anyway. Pokemon - lots of types. That's what I wanted to talk about. I'm from a world where Pokemon was a video game that children played, but they only had 151 species. It's grown very apparent to me that there are lots more than that around, and I was wondering if anyone on here could give me some...opinions, I guess, on what kinds would be good to catch. I've heard we can talk to the Psychic ones, which would be so interesting to experience! But I also want to make sure I've got a balanced team, I've heard that is a very important thing to do, especially if you want to challenge the gyms, and...[She shrugs.] Well, it doesn't seem like you can travel with practicallity anywhere without some gym badges, and the closest one to me is a...Steel type gym, I think. So, for starters, I know I'll need to train a LOT just to get ready for the gym, but if I had something with a type advantage, I figure that would help heaps. For reference, I have an Audino and -
[She's cut off by the click and creek of an opening door, and soon a Kricketune toddles into view, forlorn as he climbs up on the bed to flop into Jane's lap. His mustache is a total mess and there are bits of green berry smashed all over his face, and Jane lets out a small gasp of surprise.]
Oh, Poirot, what happened? I thought you were playing with Dinah - wait...she didn't, did she?
Tuuuuuune...
[She shakes her head and tsks, reaching into her backpack for a small wooden box and a towel.]
Oh, it figures she'd do that! I'll give her a talking to when she comes in - ah, wait, hold on.
[Jane sets the things down and leans over, smiling sheepishly into the 'gear. As she talks, the Kricketune watches her and pales, hiding his face in the bedspread and groaning in mortification. She's talking into the thing, that means people can see how undignified he is doesn't it???]
Sorry about this! Um, anyway, if you've got suggestions for what kind of Pokemon I should catch, please let me know! I'll be able to respond once I've taken care of this poor fellow.

The Psychic ones speak.
[ Guess who didn't know that! He's sitting there with a Houndour on his lap, who's just. Sniffing the air a little. ]
That's what I've heard! I'm assuming they speak in your head, since I doubt they can physically say things other than their name, which...seems to be the Pokemon norm. But still, they apparently can communicate! I think it'd be fascinating to do that!
[Dave. How many secret friends are you hiding.]
And Steel types are really good! And if you're looking for a Psychic type too, you should look for one called Beldum, they're Steel/Psychic and they get REALLY strong when they evolve! Hang on-
[Have a file attachment, Jane: iris.png ]
Though... if you're FIGHTING them you'll want to use Fire, Fighting, or Ground attacks, they resist a lot of other types. And avoid using Fairy, Rock, or Ice type Pokémon, they're weak to Steel attacks. And Steel types are completely immune to the Poison type, so definitely avoid Poison attacks.
[She's glad to see you're...not as distraught as you were before!]
Yes, I am friends with Dirk! We go back a ways. You can imagine my surprise when I saw him here, though - we had just spoken, from my perspective!
[She listens attentively to Penny's words, a little...taken aback by how menacing the creature in that picture is. That's great if it's strong, but maybe perhaps it might be...a bit too much for her personally.]
I'm thinking of fighting them. So my best bet would be Fire, Fighting, and Ground...what kinds of places are good for catching those types? And then, also...what exactly are Fairy type Pokemon? What would they be good against?
Re: [Video]
[At least it's not as potentially confusing as if they were talking over text, Dirk.]
And- just Penny's fine, really.
[Miss Polendina is what General Ironwood called her when she was in trouble.]
Well, I got my Fire types from Breeders, but there are Growlithe and Litleo on the routes around Goldenrod City, one of my friends has a Growlithe -well, an Arcanine now- and it's really strong! And Union Cave has Geodude and Onix, they're Ground types, but they're also dual-typed with Rock. There's some Gligar there too, they can be very strong. And I think Wooper are part Ground type? But I don't know how strong they are, personally. And... I haven't seen any Fighting types in the wild, sorry. You might have to look for a breeder for one.
There's lots of Pokemon that can learn Ground moves without actually being Ground type, too! My Aggron and Vaporeon both know how to use Dig, and they're Steel and Water types, respectively.
[Breath, Penny.]
Fairy types are... I'm not sure how to really describe them, except a lot of them are really cute? And they're strong against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting types, but weak to Steel and Poison.

The fairy types! They look super cute and you should totally get some!

Well, that depends on what you want to do.
[Now that's not a human in any way, shape, or form. Jane stares back for a moment, dumbfounded, before she blinks to snap herself out of it and opens her mouth to respond.]
...
[Closing mouth. Giving her words a little more thought.]
Um. Are. Are you a...Psychic Pokemon?
[Nailed it.]
[Naoya pokes his head in from the side of the shot, behind her.]
I said it was fine. She likes talking to people, anyway.

[He's more of an Oh! That's a Baseball! man.]
Steel, huh... only thing I can think of is maybe try like electricity or something? Doesn't seem like too much would get to a 'mon of steel. Me, I've just been grabbing what I can, and occasionally what I didn't mean to...
Oh, and I'm Josuke. Pleased to meet ya.

[She thinks about that for a moment.] Hm...maybe Electric could work. I don't know if it would just ricochet off of their bodies, though, since the Electric types of moves could never really do much to the Rock or Ground Pokemon, if I'm remembering correctly, and Steel would be in a similar family, wouldn't it? But I do think that an Electric Pokemon would be incredibly useful. I guess I'm just a bit picky when it comes to catching things along the routes...especially since there's so few Pokemon I recognize.

Well, metal conducts electricity, right? That's where I got the idea from. And it's terrifying to be on the other end of no matter how you cut it. I don't have any myself yet, though...
...now I've gotta think of a name for when I do.
[And he can't just look up a band's discography.]

[He offers a small, sympathetic sigh and a smile. When you have a team as large as his, conflicts are a dime a dozen. Doesn't make 'em any easier to put up with, though.]
Anyway, steel's a tricky type to deal with if you don't know what you're up against. Best types for the job are fire, fighting, and ground, but she's got a couple of dual-types that might make things bit more complicated.
Also, you can't poison them.
[The Kricketune trills, having made himself comfortable by Jane's side, still primping the curled ends of his mustache.]
She's done the same to me before, but then I was purposefully stretching my rations thin and not eating much, so I'm fairly certain she was concerned in that case. This time...[She shakes her head.] I'll bet she's avoiding coming in here to delay getting a talking-to, but I'll try to piece it all together once she does.
[She listens to Riku's explanation though.] So you've fought her before? What would be a good strategy to take her on with, if I managed to find a Pokemon with a type advantage?
[Oh, he's got experience with that. When you have a team of pranksters and brutes, it's practically required to put one's foot down.
Unfortunately, some don't take it as well as others.]
Anyway, I've fought all the gym leaders. As for Jasmine... main thing you'll want to remember is that all her Pokémon are dualtypes. Skarmory flies, so it's immune to ground. Magnezone can use Magnet Rise to dance around that ground weakness, and her steelix...

Well, it's a giant snake made of metal. Not exactly easy pickings.

You'll want Fire and Fighting types.
I won my badge by fighting with my Ponyta, though Steelix's also part Ground so you'll wanna be careful about that.
If you just don't want to use a Ponyta, though, there's plenty of other Fire-types. You been around to Mount Mortar yet?
I hear you can catch Charmanders there.

[Jane beams at the familiar face - at least, familiar from her last message into the network - and chuckles.]
Well, having a friend around made me feel a lot more at ease! So I guess the settling part came quicker than normal. [She glances down at and pats Poirot on the head between his antennae; he's cozied up to his trainer and started watching her responses on the 'gear, mildly interested.] And I've heard tell that this fellow tends to evolve quickly, so it was less not-dallying and more a fun little surprise.
Wish I could give ya more advice on makin’ a balanced team, but ta be honest, I’ve just stuck with my favorites. Or, well… Not favorites, I suppose, but just the ones that have been with me the longest.

Dirk. You're friends with Dirk and Dave and Jade and everyone? Oh- oh my goodness, I didn't even realize- I'm sorry, I'll get to your questions in a moment, but- you're from their world? ...Worlds? ...Space?
[She tried valiantly. Her Pokégear, for the record, is set up on her desk, tilted just enough so Jane can catch a glimpse of a strangely colored Eevee bouncing on its paws. Some kind of training? A Sylveon looks on, amused.]
Yes, I am. Who...do I have the pleasure of speaking to? And, are you doing alright? Pardon me for asking, but you don't look like you've slept well.
