Christmas Thoughts - Video

Christmas time is around the corner. I noticed that this place is more of a Western Christmas all things around, so I need to find myself some kind of present-based Christmas party to go to or host.

Back home, Christmas in Japan is a huge date night for couples, both married and non. I haven't had a date since I was in high school, and even then I dropped out to focus on my work.

God I feel old...

Aw well, at least I have my kids. We'll be baking cookies for everyone, once I figure out this frankenstein of a recipe I found on the shelves. I'm almost terrified to brown butter here but here's hoping I don't burn down the building doing so.

Oh wow. What's the story behind giving envelopes of money to kids?

It started in China, where married couples and families would give lucky red envelopes of money to children during new years if I'm not mistaken.

The tradition came over to Japan and it continued to this day.

Thanks for the information, about Japan and here. I've only been here since April so it's my first winter in this place.

It's a neat tradition. I do it for the kids in the neighborhood, although I don't have a kimono for the holiday.
