18th Match // Video// Violet Town
[Good evening, Pokéland, it's time for the evening news! A serious-looking journalist behind seated behind a studio desk looks directly into the camera to share this bit of information with the community:]
And now, in local news: Two unidentified individuals were arrested for brawling in public earlier today in the streets of Violet Town. We advise viewer caution, as the contents of this video might be upsetting to some.
[The news feed cuts to a shaky phone vid. The audio is muffled at first, but then what is likely a familiar voice to quite a few folks shouts very clearly: "I LOVE IT WHEN YOU BLEED AT ME!"
Then the camera manages to shake the unlikely pair of brawlers into view. One is probably average-sized, slender, with a bare, tattoo'd left arm and short, blue hair. The other is not wearing any sort of shirt even though it's very cold out, and is also built like a tank. Also his face is covered with a weird mask that has a hose attached? It's weird. It's difficult to tell because they're both moving so fast, but he likely has a good foot of height on the woman he's fighting.
"Just. Give. UP!"
The big beef boy is throwing a lot of very heavy, fatal-looking punches that she mostly manages to dodge, though he does get a couple of good hits in. She seems more than equal to taking the hits, though, and actually mostly manages to use the momentum of his large, muscley body against him and to her own advantage on many occasions, twisting one of his arms around behind his back, or snaking a foot out to trip or unbalance him, and even just flipping him right over her shoulder to land with a very loud and very painful-sounding THUD right on his back in the street.
"THANKS FOR THE FACE PAIN!!"
"This is the power of a siren!"]
[The video goes on like that for about thirty seconds before switching back to the newsroom. The serious-looking reporter appears rather ruffled after having witnessed such violence.]
Terrifying! The local Jennies have assured the press that these two violent individuals are now being held safely and securely in the Violet Town jail.
[And then it's on to other news, which isn't going to be written about or detailed as it's not relevant to the street brawl.]
[ooc: If anybody wants to check in with Maya and Krieg, they can be contacted in jail via this post!]

Actually people calling us seem to think we're not friends which is weird. Is sparring not a thing in other worlds?
[They don't seem to get that they're not killing each other, therefore it's a friendly fight.]
[She goes silent for a moment.]
Maybe. That doesn't....
She doesn't deserve that! To be dragged in and out like a ...doll. She should be here, and happy and living a life. Not....
And that bastard is still here and alive and....
[She goes quiet for a moment and her voice is just ...empty.]
He is so lucky death isn't a thing here.
[Many layers of grief and anger.]
video
[If there is one thing you learn from growing up in a crap world, it is that sometimes shit is terrible and no matter what you do, you can't change it, so you might as well pour your energy into something more productive.]
But. What do you mean by death not being a thing here?
video
[Maya not everyplace that acts 'nice' is like the abbey.]
And it's true we can't always change things ....It still sucks though.
Huh? Death isn't a thing here apparently. You can't die, we can't die. It just doesn't exist here. Which is insane but then so is this place.
video
That... doesn't sound like something that would be true. We age. The people who live here age. And the presence of hospitals and cemeteries would indicate that they do die. And we know Pokemon die. There is plenty of evidence of that in the Pokedex and the wild.
video
Maybe deaths outside of old age aren't a thing? I have no idea. I've only been here for a while.
But has anyone who came here ever died? If there's been people coming and going for ...I think someone said nine years was possibly the furthest back, someone should have died by now if it is possible. Have you heard of anyone you knew or their pokemon dying?
[She's honestly curious.
Also if people can die here, then killing Jack is a legitimate plan after all.]video
[Armin is fair enough to admit that.]
But I am not sure that means anything significant. Think of the people who generally arrive here. Most of them are fairly young. There are even some children like Newt. Of course, there are some older people too, but even they generally seem to be in very excellent health. I don't think it is out of the ordinary that nobody has died of natural causes in a group like that.
And as for other causes... this world is pretty calm and quiet. The worst that seems to exist here in terms of criminals is Team Rocket and even they are more interested in stealing pokemon than in murder.
Maybe if it had been more than just nine years I'd feel more convinced, but as it stands, I don't think there is enough to prove something like that.
[Short of actually trying to kill someone and no. No, we are not murdering someone to test whether people can die or not.]
video
And some of those pokemon entries seem a bit suspect. I'd have to find more information but I find it unlikely that someone hasn't done something to die accidently in the time period.
[It also helps that she's used to Pandora where people tend to drop like flies.]
Maybe I'll ask some of the people who have been here longer. I wonder if there's any instances of people who have been fatally injured.
video
...It's Maya.]
Me. I was.
video
You were fatally injured.
[That's....not surprising as it could have been but also considering their recent loss....a very unpleasant thought. It might come across in her tone as well.]
You're still alive though.
[Yes, obvious but relevant to the topic on hand.]
video
The hospitals here are really good.
video
But how do you know? That you were fatally injured, I mean. After all, what could be fatal on Pandora doesn't necessarily have to be fatal here.
[Of course, that is coming at things from the point of view of someone who came from a world without simple things like antibiotics and penicillin, so the capabilities of doctors here already far outpace everything Armin had ever considered possible.]
video
[Ain't nobody surviving complete organ annihilation no matter how good the medicine is. Except when in Pokéland, apparently.]
It was sublime agony.
[The best hurt that ever hurt.
Well, physically, anyway. Emotionally, it was Not Great.]
Video;
You never-- Krieg, what happened?
[fuss fuss fuss.]
Video;
He leans in closer to Maya since she's the one with the 'Gear, so that he can see Armin in the little screen.]
My guts melted and my veins popped like grapes.
[That's what happened.]
Video;
Yes, you already said that. I mean, how? That sort of thing doesn't just happen by itself.
Video;
She was so scared, and I didn't know why. She begged me to go but how could I protect her if I left? I couldn't leave her by herself!
[He goes quiet for a moment, wrestling with the memories, focusing hard on Dolly and choking down the bile that still rises when he lets himself remember that horrible day. Finally, after a long pause, he adds - quietly:]
She was scared of herself.
[Would it have been easier to have said "Angel did it"? Maybe. But that would also involve saying her name aloud, and he can't quite bring himself to do that right now.]
Video;
That....sounds like her.
[Just give her a moment.]
Okay, given the.... circumstances. We don't have to continue this conversation if you don't want to, Krieg.
Video;
He draws in a sharp breath through his nose and looks up abruptly, though only to stare at the jail wall across from them.]
Yes thank you I would like to stop now!!
Video;
Okay. Conversation over.
New topic. Do they have police on the islands you guys live on?
Video;
Mngh, yeah, but they know me better.
[The island Jennies have witnessed the four-way muscle cat brawls many times, and while they don't exactly condone them, they're tolerated as long as all of the participants are happy and (mostly) uninjured afterward.]
