Been to the Ruins of Alph before? Are you an old hat at this stuff? Well turn everything you thought you knew UPSIDE DOWN because EVERYTHING. IS DIFFERENT NOW.

… Or at least, that’s what the flyers being passed out under a canopy of cheap Celebi balloons that are bobbing around in the breeze say.

One thing’s for sure, there sure are a lot more tents than normal. By the time most of you casuals get there, the entire picnicking area, usually quite spacious, has been turned into a small tent city. And the excited atmosphere is palpable.

The crackle of the Ruin Rangers’ walkie-talkies mingles with that of the ghost-hunting equipment toted around by excited Hex Maniacs, burbling Unown are drifting here and there to blink curiously at all the new people and Pokemon suddenly on their turf, and chatter from Legend Seekers of all ages (really, of ALL ages-- everyone from Youngsters to Veterans have apparently been swept up in the Seeker-mania!) rings out as stories and speculations are swapped.

There’s lots to do, plenty to explore, and (according to word on the grapevine), more than enough spooky rituals to perform once the night falls.

Will you solve some tile puzzles and fall into an underground chamber? Stick to the main group and make s’mores? Befriend a floating letter (or twenty-four)? Go directly against the advice of the tired-looking Rangers and play One Man Hide-and-Seek in the dark?

Or, most importantly, will you start a small-scale riot in order to keep the loud static boxes away from the tents where you’re trying to sleep?

_{[So Heather's been a little scarce lately, and not for no reason.]

[Scouting for a gym location is all fun and good except for the part where actually settling on a location depends on two people and nothing feels quite right and also maybe your boyfriend is depressed?? She might be a Champion now, but she has never been suited to a lifestyle of all work and no play, so fuck it, man, maybe a break is what they both need.]

[It had taken some convincing ("Hey wanna go watch some of these dingbats get possessed by ghosts?" "... Ugh, I don't wanna deal with the fanboys..." "... What if we go in disguise?" "!!!!"), but they're HERE and ready to watch the rangers chasing a bunch of sweaty nerds around.]

[Her 'disguise' is really not much more than the fact that she let her hair go black and trimmed it a little shorter than normal, but hey. If someone recognizes her, so be it, she'll throw them a soda from the cooler, wink, and go "Shhhhhh."]}

_{[When she's not just hanging out in front of her tent people-watching, she'll be strolling around to give her Pokemon (she didn't bring any of her signatures on account of them being a dead giveaway at this point, although having Two Entire Shinies and a walking science experiment with her might kind of make the point of being incognito moot) a chance to stretch their legs.]}

[Yeah, that walking science experiment is a dead giveaway. Especially for other pokemon. Kuro remembers Snitter from the beach incident, and makes a beeline for the weird little guy, dragging Shiro in his wake.]

[Give him a second to recognize her...]

Heather? [And a once-over.] Your hair looks... like you stole my look.

Hey, you got a patent on that look? You copywrote it? Huh?

_{[She tilts her sunglasses down a little to give him a smirk of greeting.]

[Snitter, meanwhile, excitedly wobbles to his feet.]

[HELLO!! FRIENDS!! HE REMEMBERS YOU TOO!!]}

Maybe I did. You'd have to go back in time and ask the school, though.

[He's grinning in answer, though. Giving her a little wave.]

[Kuro huffs a greeting, lowering his head down to better say hello to Snitter. Hello, strange friend. How are you?]

Damn.

I guess we'll never know who did it first.

_{[Once he's close enough, she'll reach out to give him a friendly punch in the shoulder.]

[Snitter, on the other hand, is just excitedly leaning in to sniff Kuro's feet. Which results in a distinctive CLANG of metal meeting metal.]}

It will, eternally, be a mystery to us both.

[He shifts sideways with the punch, more out of amusement than any real force to the punch.]

How are you?

[CLANG goes the meeting of the weird dogs. Kuro snorts, and... reaches over to pat the Null gingerly.]

Oh, you know.

Same old.

Been scouting potential Gym locations, mostly.

_{[There's been a few good ones, but... Envy keeps finding reasons to turn them down. :T]}

Yeah? [Look at him perk up.]

How's that going?

[Can he help? Tell him more!]

Ehhh... found a few with promise but we can't seem to settle on anything.

_{[IT'S A GOOD THING HE'S PERKY ABOUT IT because she is t i r e d.]}

What's the problem? Expense... or?

[That's usually the issue in his experience, anyway.]

Oh, I think the League like... covers all the expenses so it's a pretty sweet deal, honestly.

I mean, I guess they'd probably give you a look if you were like "Yeah so my gym is gonna be a sick mansion with a pool and an in-house movie theater and a fully-stocked bar"...

... So. You could make a gym that was basically anything? So long as they approved?

Yeah, basically.

_{[That was the impression she'd gotten, anyway.]}

I'm not even technically sure it has to involve battling-- though it seems like that's what everybody else has been doing so far and I'm not creative, so who am I to buck the trend?

_{[SHE LIKES KICKING BUTT. Someone else can break the mold.]}
