Rating: PG-13
Log:

Been to the Ruins of Alph before? Are you an old hat at this stuff? Well turn everything you thought you knew UPSIDE DOWN because EVERYTHING. IS DIFFERENT NOW.

… Or at least, that’s what the flyers being passed out under a canopy of cheap Celebi balloons that are bobbing around in the breeze say.

One thing’s for sure, there sure are a lot more tents than normal. By the time most of you casuals get there, the entire picnicking area, usually quite spacious, has been turned into a small tent city. And the excited atmosphere is palpable.

The crackle of the Ruin Rangers’ walkie-talkies mingles with that of the ghost-hunting equipment toted around by excited Hex Maniacs, burbling Unown are drifting here and there to blink curiously at all the new people and Pokemon suddenly on their turf, and chatter from Legend Seekers of all ages (really, of ALL ages-- everyone from Youngsters to Veterans have apparently been swept up in the Seeker-mania!) rings out as stories and speculations are swapped.

There’s lots to do, plenty to explore, and (according to word on the grapevine), more than enough spooky rituals to perform once the night falls.

Will you solve some tile puzzles and fall into an underground chamber? Stick to the main group and make s’mores? Befriend a floating letter (or twenty-four)? Go directly against the advice of the tired-looking Rangers and play One Man Hide-and-Seek in the dark?

Or, most importantly, will you start a small-scale riot in order to keep the loud static boxes away from the tents where you’re trying to sleep?

Ooooh...

[ARMIN...this is too tempting, you know it is.]

Y'wanna? With me? We can do it, yeah!

[Poko snorts with excitement beside her. YES!!!]

It would be fun, wouldn't it? And I've never even seen you fight. It'll be interesting to find out what sort of strategies you use.

[As for Armin, that's usually the overthinking kind of strategies, except this battle is being done on the fly, so he's going to be thinking on his feet a lot more.]

Most of my pokemon are level 100. Is that going to be okay?
agent3: (Im lovin it)

Yeah, that's what mine're too!

[Strategies. You say this like she plans things out. Thida's most effective battling, in Pokemon and in person, has always come on the fly.]

Not a problem!

You know, if you wanted, we could make it really interesting.

[Armin hmms a little before he turns to Thida with a smile.]

Are you up for a double-battle? Two of mine against two of yours?
agent3: (Dont squid around)

[There's a pause as Thida's eyes go very wide. She's heard of those, seen them on TV, but...]

...Yeeeeeeah, let's do it!

Then let's go over there. Looks like there is room for a battle right there.

[Though there are no officially cordoned off areas or anything, there are a few Ranger present who are keeping things a bit organised. One field is being kept clear for various pokemon battles so nobody has to worry about getting hit by a pokemon move while they are just milling about.

And if Thida is down with it, that is where Armin will head, already going over his pokemon and trying to narrow it down to which two to bring out. He has no idea what type of pokemon Thida has with her (apart from her little Tepig, that is) so he ought to choose some with good range.

Once at opposite sides of the field, Armin reaches for his pokeballs, tossing two of them out onto the field.]

Athena, Circinus. Let's do this.

[And out onto the field appear Athena, the massive Golduck and Circinus, that odd blue and white ball. They look Ready.]
agent3: (setto!)

[Oh, she is down for it - down to throw down, that is. She considers Armin's picks with...not wide-eyed, per say, but very open-eyed, very observant. She catches the shine on Circinus and the size of Athena and is intrigued, for sure. Poko takes a look at them, too, but stays at her feet. He won't go unless she gives the command.]

'Kay...then...[She unclips two Pokeballs.] Maika! [First comes a Malamar, settling calmly in the arena.] Majo, you too! [And out pops a Tsareena, her lavender petals and light green...uh...other parts of her body giving off a shimmer.

You ready for this?]

[Armin too takes a good look at the two pokemon Thida decides to bring out. Partially to admire them, as that is quite the good looking Malamar, but also, because his brain has automatically shifted into gear, trying to recall all he knows about these two species and how best to counter them.

First things first - that Tsareena is going to be a problem. Armin is fairly certain she is a grass pokemon (perhaps with a secondary typing, but grass for sure) and that is not going to do well against Athena. He can't prevent it from using grass-type moves, but at the very least, he can start with taking the edge off.]

Athena, use Soak on that Tsareena.

[Turn that grass into water, which will be a much easier type for him to deal with.]

Circinus, set up a Light Screen.
