[Shiro's gear turns on while outdoors. On the beach. It's clear they're in the middle of a training session, with various members of his pokemon team sitting along a makeshift battlefield -- you know, the big rectangle with the circle in the middle. Made out of driftwood and seaweed.]

[And the entire gang is wearing the same mildly distressed expression.]

[Shiro, wielding the camera one-handed thanks to the sling on the other arm, slowly pans over to where his ... uh. Archen. Exists.]

Does... does anyone know if this guy is okay?

[Because the little bird-dinosaur sure doesn't really look like it. Its flailing is kicking up sand and bits of shells everywhere. Shiro's Litleo starts edging away from the other pokemon, eyes wide and ears slicked back.]

He's been acting like this since he hatched. We're all a little... concerned.

[WHY IS IT LIKE THIS, POKEMON WORLD.]

Ah, but Luna was bred for her temperament.

[She was a fancy Meowth, all right. They hadn't just found one in a trash can; though knowing Shiro he would've loved that one just as much. They really had looked for one that had been advertised as being the perfect companion Meowth.]

Plus, Luna is supposed to exist in this world. This little guy was suddenly revived into a whole different world from the one he lived in before. Maybe it just means he needs more time to adjust. I'm sure the world today is nothing like the one a few million years ago.

You think this is just an adjustment period?

[That would also be a huge relief. It would be nice to know the little guy was going to be okay. Despite Shiro's... irritation and confusion, the last thing he wants to do is end up hurting the poor thing.]

I'm not going to rush anything but if I can make him more comfortable...

Well, I don't know for sure, but I do think it is possible. We all went through suddenly waking up in a completely different world that was unlike anything we ever dealt with. And we all needed some time to adjust as well. [some more than others.] It stands to reason it would be the same for pokemon.

And, I guess, maybe he'd be more comfortable if you try and give him an environment that sort of looks like what he would've been used to before. Though I'm not saying that'll be easy...

That's true, we did. I guess I figured pokemon would acclimate easier, since... well. People have been bringing the fossils back for a while now.

[Why isn't there a contingency plan for this? Why, science!!!]

Don't suppose you know what that environment... was, do you?

It's still a new experience to each pokemon that gets brought back though.

And, sorry, I don't. I just know a little bit about them, but I've never really looked into them extensively.

[Does it have fins? Does it swim in the ocean? If the answer is no, then Armin hasn't studied them.]

But, you know, I bet we could find out. The library here must have a book or more on these pokemon. And you can't be the first person who has to deal with trying to help a fossil pokemon adjust to its new environment. There might be books on that too.

[But, please, Armin, he figures you know him well enough by now to know when he is absolutely kidding.]

On to the library I go, then. Or the internet -- if Pidge will let me touch her computer.

If you go to the library, I could come with you. I wouldn't mind. And the two of us would have better luck at finding something useful than on our own.

Not that this internet isn't really useful too, but... did you know there is also a lot of false information on it?
