Good day everyone! I've more vital reasons to be posting this of course, but I must share the experience that Armin and I just had- it was undescribable...we were exploring the deepest depths of the temple that we could possibly manage, and then there they were-

Massive! Far larger than any typical Relicanth, with cheekbone points so long that they were practically a moustache! They were wise with age, and spoke even into our minds...

[Maybe? Possibly? Jonathan seems pretty sure about it!

Anyway-] More importantly, I was gifted with this incredibly old tablet- its language seems unlike anything I've seen here, and I would very much like to have it properly preserved somehow if any have advice on how best to do such a thing.

That may be our best choice- while I do need to set this someplace safe before returning inside, I'm quiet eager to explore more! Though I doubt I shall come out with something such as this again, [he laughs.] Such encounters are almost certainly 'once in a lifetime'.

That is news indeed- though I cannot say when I will precisely be home unfortunately. Even were I to leave now, I fear I would not be in time for such a meal- there is a ferry to consider in the matter of things after all.

[Armin hasn't gone back into the temple yet. Not that he doesn't want to, but he agreed to explore with Sasha, Jean and Angel next, and he'll need to wait for them to arrive.

Plus, you know, taking a rest after such a long and deep exploration is probably good too.

Not that you'd be able to tell that they've spent a good time exploring the old temple because Armin is all but vibrating with energy, his eyes bright and his smile even brighter.

He has carefully set the little clockwork statue he received from the Relicanth down on a low wall, mainly because he doesn't trust his hands right now to hold it and not accidentally drop it.]

You should ask Mr Pines about that tablet. I think if anyone would know about translating something like that, it would be him.

Mr. Pines? [Jonathan blinks, the name ringing a slight bell.] I believe I've heard the name before at least- is he himself a student of the archaeological field as well then?

[What does Ford even have twelve PHD's in, Armin is not entirely sure. When Ford had first revealed that tidbit of information to him, Armin had not actually known what a PHD was, let alone how much time it takes to get one. And now?

Well, it's kind of awkward to ask about four years into a friendship, right?]

Mr Pines has several artefacts at his gym. Plus, he travelled through various different dimensions, so even if he is not really family with archaeology, he might still know a thing or two about translating unknown languages.

A tablet? Fascinating! Does the tablet seem sturdy enough to handle?

It was certainly sturdy enough to withstand being brought above ground, but I've taken precautions all the same- for all that I know, I could have unknowingly altered the stone as it is! It is truly a remarkable gift, but I do so wish I was more prepared to preserve it where we stand.

Would wrapping it in some kind of sturdy cloth help?

Perhaps so...the trouble then, is where to procure the cloth from. While I certainly packed for travel, I believe the sturdiest cloth that I likely have would be tent cloth.

I don't believe that would suffice for this.

While I can't say we've handled tablets specifically, Ryner and I certainly have picked up an older book or two for the gym library, so I imagine many of the basics might be the same.

To begin with, do you know what it's made out of? Carved stone is one thing, but clay would be quite another...

It is without a doubt carved of stone- it was within the lower levels of the temple, deep beneath the water, so it is undoubtedly able to withstand at least that much.

In that case for now you probably don't have too much to worry about for the time being. Simply ensure that nothing hard bangs against it and nothing is spilled on it. And try not to drop it, of course.

Once you're back on the surface, keep it protected from the weather, too, as even wind and rain can slowly wear away at stone.

Me as well. Honestly, shouldn't things like... that... be kept somewhere to be observed by guests and the like? A bedroom is absolutely not the place for it.

Maybe it's a particularly old one- the relicanth, I mean. It must be super tough, being able to grow to that size.

They must certainly be...but how old, is the true question! The sheer scale of the being, the very intelligence and wisdom they radiated...more than that, their habitat as a whole! I can only imagine what number of sights such a pokemon has seen!

So it was inside the temple, then...? Huh... ( don't mind her thinkin some thinky thoughts. ) Maybe there's another entrance at the bottom, for oceanic pokemon- even with how big the temple is, some of these things are so much bigger than normal, it's hard to imagine them staying there all this time.

Indeed it was! Given that the temple was entirely sunken until recently however, it would be likely that the primary entrance could suffice though; at the very least, it could provide some way in for smaller creatures I'm certain.
