hitoka yachi | haikyuu!
for the canonblind, here are some short samples on what to expect!
@kazuki
a community of massively tall volleyball players, that is. grab a plate, everyone seems friendly and even occupied enough not to notice— heck, you're probably one with the crowd right now. boys dig in like hungry animals while girls . . . also dig in! ah, one even steals an entire plate of rice balls! they're mostly in a corner of club managers making more rice balls and cutting watermelons, while the rest of the guys in gym jerseys and running shorts are at it, building mountains of edibles on their plates.
yachi can be found somewhere in there— she's small, for one! very small, so you might even miss her if it weren't for the strike of blond hair . . . and her palpable cowering. she's terrified for some reason, and since this is her memory, you'll probably hear exactly what she's thinking:
it's a titan jungle! they're huge! I'm so hungry though, it all smells so good— but what if I lean over and they cook me by accident?! what if i'm eaten?! ]

[He may be a musician now, but he spent most of his childhood ingrained in sports. He had some experience with sports clubs. And while the Pokemon world was very similar, it was nice to be back in Japan. There was definitely something to be said about hearing your own language, and smelling the food of your school days.]
[If it weren't for the strange circumstances, he would have thought this was an entirely regular dream!]
[That's just how guys that play sports are! I don't think you'll get eaten, but you might lose a finger if you aren't fast enough.]
no subject
[ someone spoke back to her in her mind and not only freaked her out, but freaked her out twice after saying something about losing her finger?! yachi holds her hashi and dish very close to her chest now, and says out loud, enough for some men to turn their heads and stare at her: ]
M-my fingers don’t taste good! They don’t have any meat on them either it’s not worth the trouble—!!
no subject
I was just kidding. I don't think anyone wants to eat your fingers.
no subject
[ oh, god that was embarrassing. and when she finally sees where the wave is coming from— ]
AaaAAHH Kazuki!! [ yachi bows her head, with her plate, ] I’m sorry that was so stupid—!!

@mikasa
yachi, for the most part, has always been jumpy as much as she was nervous and anxious. with her cheeks flushed brightly, she steps out from behind the other and brings out her voice: my name is hitoka yachi!
look around, and the wide space you're in is what seems to be a huge room, with squeaky floors of shiny wood nearly an orange hue, brightly illuminated, and home to a set of nets on a court. everyone looks fairly young, barely past eighteen and in uniform (the girls, skirts; the boys, in sportswear. outside the gymnasium are clear skies, chirping birds and a horizon of quaint little buildings that goes on for miles. ]
no subject
It seemed too peaceful, too cheerful for that. Not that Mikasa really knew how the military felt.
So she sad nothing. Just stood there awkwardly looking around. Then she saw Yachi and pointed.]
Where are we?
[.....Had her voice changed?.]
no subject
[ oh, mikasa—! not that it was so strange, i mean . . . this was a dream, wasn’t it? though yachi didn’t feel aware of that either. when the boys yell ITS NICE TO MEET YOU, yachi jumps back again with an EEK! from keeping behind kiyoko, she bounds up to the little girl, crouching to get to her eye level. these were soon to be her new friends, though, but—
she’s as jumpy as she was in her old days. ]
Don’t worry about them, I think they won’t . . . Bite?
[ NICE TO MEET YOU YACHI!!! ]
EEP—!
no subject
Well, this is awkward. But it wasn't enough to completely break the memory.]
no subject
B-but she's too young!
[ often being mistaken for grade-schoolers, the shorter boys wave it off and don't believe it. another comes, and asks both of them: what class are you in? his huge and scary looking and has a beard and— yachi nearly screeches on the floor. she was even shorter crouched by mikasa. ]
Why don't we— go for a walk, Mikasa?!
no subject
I don't know how to be a manager. [She didn't even know what that was. Not really. She wasn't sure what to say, thankfully Yachi was to the rescue. So after waffling for a moment, then she grabbed at Yachi. Giving a little nod.] Okay.

it was making her chest jitter already, and what more did she need to jolt her spirit right out of her skin was kiyoko offering a suggestion: why don’t you collect the stray hits? ]
Stray—Oh, right!
[ it was time to get those balls. colorful spirals of white, yellow and blue decorated the volleyballs that bounced in and out of court, and off went yachi to fetch the ones out of player reach.
on the far end of the court, a couple of boys in white jerseys begin to eye her and hush amongst each other with their own grins and volleyballs in hand. they’re up to something. ]
no subject
[Not that it makes any sense to him, but he has at least been in Johto enough to recognize, like... a sport thing happening when it does. And this almost looks like one of the Pokemon gyms, but... not exactly.]
[You know what. He's not even going to question it anymore.]
[But Yachi might be a little surprised that it's not her fetching the balls, or, well, not exactly.]
I wonder who those boys are...
no subject
that’s a horrible way to remember someone! she thinks.
what’s worse, those boys are indeed up to something. one of them purposely tosses a ball in dimitri’s direction, then tries really hard to get noticed as he bounds up to him with the charm spiked all the way up. yes, he’s about to get hit on.
what’s worse, yachi’s so embarrassed that she only seems to immediately remember him as rat king that she can’t bring herself to warn him of what’s to come. at least not yet! ]
Oh no—!
no subject
[Oh! That girl, who Gremlin bothered. Dimitri smiles over to her and gives a small smile.]
[He has no idea what's going on. He's decided that's normal, and is falling back on manners.]
no subject
Ahhh— oh, no— [ out of nowhere, she finds it in her to bellow: ] WATCH OUT MISTER RAT KING!!
[ because there’s a high speed volleyball ready to zoom in and hit his face. ]

@leonardo
she’s not only going for the look, but also the overall design, where signaling, sentences and letters should be for the poster— and she wants it to be presentable. her mother doesn’t expect less than that. ]
It’s still not right . . .
[ she sifts through the colorful bookmarks she left in her books— titled eye catching poster designs, how to design ads and volleyball basics, and with a moan, she hits her forehead against the top of her desk. creativity block is the worst. ]
no subject
Perhaps it may look better if we took a step back?
[He is aware that sometimes what looks terrible in front of your nose looks great when viewed from a few feet back.]
no subject
[ that was definitely not her mom— and sometime soon, it was supposed to be, to give her pointers, but madoka yachi was always madly busy with her design company. for some reason, she doesn’t seem spooked by a man in her room. in this dream, it felt like . . . he was here to help in mom’s place. or maybe he had drawn it?
that’s impossible, because leo would draw something completely different. yachi does take a step back and stand from her seat, but—
yeah, it’s chonky. anatomy is weird. the letters aren’t in the right place. ]
It’s so bad—
no subject
[Anatomy is difficult, if you are not used to the proportions involved or have not seen the bodies yourself.]
This is all just the underpainting. You can fine tune the work, then paint over it, and nobody will see the errors.
no subject
[ she wasn't going to paint over it, but— maybe finalizing over the roughness would definitely make things look better to show her mom. ]
I have an eraser, so I can sort of . . . [ still standing, yachi keeps her hand spread across the sheet and lightly drags the eraser around the sketch to keep the pencil lines hardly noticeable. like whispers! ] Make the bad parts disappear.
[ which is all of it, she thinks. ]
