Haven't really checked out this thing much but, y'know, desperate times and all that jazz

This is embarrassing but
I'm totally broke?

What do y'all do for money around here?
Aside from battling since that's not on the table

Back home, having funds wasn't really
a thing I had to worry about usually
I made enough to get by and that was fine

But here it's different
So, any advice would be appreciated

Not sure how long I can 'live off the land' like some kind of

Pretty much. There are wet and dry seasons, but not usually snow.

Haha I know what that feels like. It's not an island, but it can still get pretty hot and humid where I come from too, especially during the wet season. My tia tries to moderate it as best she can, but it can take a toll on her so we try not to push her too much.

Yeah, sorry. My tia's moods can affect the weather. She can make it rain, or sunny, or hail, or create rainbows. Stuff like that.

I don't know if I'd really call her a mage. She doesn't cast spells or anything.

but it's, like, the specialize in weather magic?
so that was my assumption but

Yeah I'm not really sure how to explain it. We call our magic our Gifts, and they just kind of happen? Like, my mother is a healer, and my older sister can grow and control plants, and one of my cousins can shapeshift, while another one has super hearing.

But we're not mages either. There aren't any spells. We're just able to use whatever Gift we were given.

Makes me think of my friends, The Morgans. They have 'gifts' too, actually, that usual people can't.
But they were made rather than born? So that's why

We aren't actually born with our Gifts though. All the kids in the family receive their Gift on their fifth birthday.

Everyone, where I'm from, is born with their abilities
Well, okay, not everyone but
other ways of obtaining magic is kind of frowned upon

I guess that kind of makes sense. To be honest, we don't really know much about our magic. My abuela received it years and years ago, and it made our home and gives us powers, but we don't entirely know where it came from.

I mean, I guess some people would be fine with that but me?
I'd like to know

I don't think she ever really knew, but to be fair she probably didn't have much of a chance to question it. The magic came to Abuela after her husband was killed, and then she had three children to raise on her own.

I think she was grateful to have some help.

I also would've just taken whatever help I could get at that point
Glad it worked out for her, at least

Yeah. I can't imagine what it must have been like for her.

But our family is still together, and we've all got each other. So it still turned out all right, I think.
