What do y'all do for money around here?
Aside from battling since that's not on the table

Back home, having funds wasn't really
a thing I had to worry about usually
I made enough to get by and that was fine

But here it's different
So, any advice would be appreciated

Not sure how long I can 'live off the land' like some kind of

What city are you in?
Maybe its a big city vs little town thing.
And I know you said apart from battling, but the gym badges are a really good way of getting a bunch of cash at once.
Even if you don't like battling, it's still something to consider.

you have to battle other people a lot to earn money that way so a jobs easier i think

If you're not allergic to cats or furry mammals in general, get a Meowth and a Zigzagoon.

The Zigzagoon MUST have the Pickup ability. If the Meowth does too, it's a bonus.

Meowth learns the Pay Day move, which generates legally valid money out of thin air. The stronger the Meowth, the more money you get at once.

Pokémon with Pickup have a gift for finding random odds and bits anywhere.That means fewer supplies you need to purchase and potentially extras you can sell to people on the road. As a bonus, there's a surprising number of gold nuggets to be found in the wilderness.

They sure do! I still have no idea how the nuggets even get spread around, or how come three different regional varieties of the same cat can create the same currency, but at this point I'm not looking the gift Meowth in the mouth.

Glad to be of help, even if training a species you don't like isn't an ideal solution.

The marts in towns seem to need additional help sometimes. At least the one where I am at is, and they said that there are others in other towns.

What do you mean "aside from battling"? Battling and coming up with strategies is fun, and the Pokémon like it. But um. I think Pokémon centers could always use the help, with how many people do battle. Doctors always could use the help.

lord knows I'd rather be a healer than a fighter if I can help it

a lot of people use pay day. it's a pokémon move that just kind makes it...rain money? but it's hard to get. and only some pokémon can use it.

some pokémon learn it naturally, though. if you find a cat pokémon with a gold coin on its head, called meowth, i think that's one. you could keep one of those little guys around to handle your finances.

here's the bad news, though. how much money they give kind of depends on how strong they are. and pokémon only get strong by battling, which you don't want to do.

i get it, honestly. i like these little guys. i don't want them hurt, or for anyone to hurt them. but from what i understand...the fighting they do is kind of like training. sparring. and getting stronger like that is part of their life cycles. some of 'em can't even grow into their - what i guess you'd call their adult forms unless they become strong enough. like a chick that never gets to mature into a hen. they don't grow so much based on time elapsed, but by strength gained.

not trying to push you to do anything you're not comfortable with, of course. and some pokémon may be happy the way they are, and not want to grow or fight. but for a lot of 'em, that might not be what they want. and if you want to do right by them, then you need to figure out what they want, not decide what's best for them. so if you don't want to do battles, you might want to make sure you only get pokémon who don't want to battle either.

anyway, if you need some quick cash, i can loan you some to get you on your feet. what happened to the money you get with your whole starter kit deal?

I, myself, have very little myself and that is largely only because I have people here I know.

Have you tried asking around in the city your in? If any shops might need assistance, I mean.

but you could also simply catch a Meowth or other cat that learns to generate money.
