Have you ever had a Pokemon that's practically family? More than a pet or friend or working partner. They have their own thoughts and feelings, and the Psychic-type ones are particularly good at expressing their thoughts.

Some of us have been here for years, after all, and some of us have had Pokemon we've grown close to. It's not like I want to marry my Pokemon or something, but it's... strange.

Maybe I'm more at home here than I thought.

Yeah. My Mightyena, DD, is close to me like family. He's like my dog from home so I can relate there.

I did say not like pets... but one of mine is... somewhat like a strange family member.

DD isn't a pet. He's a working dog. A soldier on the battlefield who can work equal to a man and more. He helps me during missions and is also my close friend.

I suppose that's fair. Working dogs are a bit more of a complicated thing. But she's... it's interesting. You never really expect to get attached.

I don't, at least.

Your own Pokémon? What's she like?

[Always a nice thing when you can talk about your Pokémon's personality between trainers. They're such complex things, more so than regular animals.]

She's gentle, but... stern when she needs to be. Almost motherly, which is odd. I suppose she felt she needed to be considering that she can read minds. I've taught her how to read - though the telepathy probably helped with that. Sometimes she'll respond to posts on the network on her own. She likes making friends and looking after people.

She helps out at work, as well. I work at Honeyed Soul, a bakery in Goldenrod. She seems to enjoy the work, and while she doesn't handle the register, she does like helping out customers. She considers herself more or less 'retired' from battling, I think. And that's fine - I'm a Breeder and I have a steady job, so it's not as if I need to use her in battle very often.

I have not been here for long. However, Pokemon seem to be as sentient as any other non-Human race.

Which baffles me. If they have this level of mindfulness, then why are they treated as simple pets by many?

It's true. It's a tricky issue... I suppose it varies by species, but there are some of equal intelligence.

I was a type of monster known as a boss monster. We are more similar to humans than most monsters, perhaps, but our biology is still vastly different.

Interesting. I only know of demons at home, in terms of things that are similar to humans but with very different biology.

I see. Humans have tales of demons in my world, but they are only that.

I suspect many such stories are really memories of long-ago encounters with monsters, but it is hard to prove such a thing one way or the other. What are your demons like?

Some might call them 'monsters'... they tend to be spirits, creatures capable of commanding one element or another, even if that element is simply great physical force. A lot of them used to be gods, before they were cast down by the current one who claims to be the supreme god of all. Many of them arose out of humanity's collective unconscious, I think... though that doesn't make them any less real.

Most humans don't tend to have that kind of relationship with non-humans. It's more than a pet but not the same as another human. It would be seen as very weird at home, but I don't really care.
