victory_road | 4th Recipe [Violet City, Video]

[The feed opens up on Jane's back as she bustles around the kitchen in the Violet City Inn - judging by how the camera isn't perfectly steady and the happy chatter of Pokemon nearby, someone else is filming. The video takes a turn - Dinah the Audino and Bettina the Golbat are fussing over a container of cinnamon, Dinah being the only one with hands to pour it over bowls of what looks to be rice pudding. Seems like Jane made them a treat, but she's still working?]

- August?

[The video shifts again to show Jane, the oven open behind her and holding a tray of...are those raisins? Come to think of it, there's a whole LOT of grapes left on the counter. Looks like someone got paid for her help in way too much food to eat before it goes bad.]

I didn't know you could work the 'gear! Have you been learning by watching me?

Delphoox!

[Jane chuckles, coming closer to put the tray on the table. Geez, that's a lot of raisins.] Goodness, I tell you I want to show you off and you get right ahead of me! Hold on, give me that so we can let everyone see you.

[August hands the 'gear over, and there's a blur before there's a clear view of Jane's team enjoying their special treat - and it's clear that August has become a very handsome shiny Delphox. He grins and ducks his head, shy, while the other Pokemon spot the 'gear and wave.]

I hope this isn't too much like tooting my own horn, but I do believe I have quite a good-looking team! And August has gained a secondary typing - he's Fire and Psychic now! [Jane sounds so excited by this.] I can't wait until we can actually converse, you know? But, erm, he does...need a little practice with his new powers. August, do you want to try something?

[The Delphox nods, removing a stick from his sleeve-fur. There's a subtle glow as he closes his eyes, and at first that glow surrounds the raisins, and they do begin to float...but when the glow disperses, they shoot out everywhere, and Jane and her Pokemon duck and cry out. The feed switches over to Jane's somewhat exasperated face.]

Ah! O-Okay, um, well, as you can see, he's...really not good at maintaining control yet. At least this time it wasn't anything that could hurt someone...but, I'm assuming practice is going to make perfect?

It's weird but somehow I'm getting used to the idea that all these pokemon hatch from eggs.

[Seriously, it is bizarre judging it by the standards of his world, but it seems normal in this one.]

Do all pokemon have a shiny form or is it just certain kinds? For example, my Amadeus is a hoothoot. Are there shiny hoothoots as well?

I believe there should be shiny forms for every Pokemon. I haven't seen a lot of shinies, but they are rather spectacular.

[Jane smiles welcomingly.] Ah, but where's my manners! My name is Jane Crocker, what's yours?

Ah, me too. Just asking questions like that.

[His grandfather would be appalled!]

I'm Armin Arlert. It's a pleasure to meet you, Jane.

It's okay - I do much of the same, honestly. And it's nice to meet you Armin! I certainly hope you are able to see a lot of shinies in the future!

Me too. It feels like this world has so many amazing things to discover and learn about.

[Every day he learns of something new that exists here that he wants to know more about. If it wasn't for his sense of duty, he would probably be happy to live here forever and learn everything there is to learn about these pokemon and the land and its history.]

It really does! And it's so peaceful, but lively at the same time. Living here's just...grown on me.

[She beams.] Now - you've seen my team. What's yours like?

[Very peaceful indeed. Armin has never been in such a peaceful place before.]

I'm afraid it's not much of a team yet, but...

[He leans off screen for a moment, softly calling out to someone, and he soon returns in view, a small hoothoot perched on his shoulder, peering curiously at the screen.]

This is Amadeus. He's the pokemon that I was given when I arrived here. I haven't had a chance yet to catch any other pokemon [More like he's a bit nervous to] but he and I have been becoming very good friends.

[Amadeus hoots softly, as if confirming what Armin was saying.]

[Oh, she's seen those birds at night before! Jane gives a little wave.] Hello, Amadeus!

[Though, to the catching thing...] That's fine. Might as well take your time with catching Pokemon, right? I didn't catch anything until I made it to Route 30, and Dinah and I - the pink one, she's Dinah - had a lovely time getting to know each other when it was just us.

[Amadeus hoots again, spreading one wing and giving a little owl-y approximation of a bow. Hello, Jane, he is obviously very pleased to meet you too.]

I suppose I... first want to make sure I can be a good trainer to any new pokemon I catch. [He still isn't entirely convinced that he can be, but he is getting there.] I never even had a pet before, so this is all very new to me. I've been trying to read up as much as I can though.

[He reaches up, stroking Amadeus' feathers.]

Amadeus has been helping, at least.

[He is a very easy-going pokemon, which helps Armin gain his confidence at this.]

That's a good way to go about it! I've sort of been jumping headfirst into things, but everybody's got their own way of figuring it out.

[Good job with helping though, Amadeus, it is important to help!]

It seems that way. Jean and Eren are that way too, but I don't think I could manage it.

[It takes a certain amount of confidence and a give no fucks attitude to be able to just jump into things and do it. Armin lacks both those things.]

[Jane gives dozens of fucks. That's why she does it.]

Oh? Are they friends of yours?

Yes. Somehow the four of us have ended up here together.

[And Armin is very grateful for that. Exploring weird and new lands is much more fun with your friends there.]

Oh - you're all from the same place! Gosh, that's really lucky! I have friends here from home, too, so I'm glad to hear that someone else can get that chance.

At first it was just me and Jean, but Eren and Bertolt ended up here too.

It's a little curious how some people seem to arrive from their worlds all alone and others come in groups. I mean, I'm not complaining or anything, I just wonder what sets it apart.

[It is really hard for him to buy that it is just random.]

I honestly couldn't tell you - it seems pretty random to me. But at the same time, it's lucky when it happens, and if it doesn't, folks here are nice and friendly, so it's not as if anybody is truly alone.

You're right. The people of this world are very kind. Maybe it is because this is such a peaceful place.

I'm not sure the people of my world would be as welcoming, if I'm honest.

[Individually, perhaps, but as a whole? Their resources are stretched thin as is, and random people showing up would only increase the strain. Unless those random people turn out to be really good titan killers, Armin can imagine there being a lot of disquiet over strangers showing up.]

Maybe. I like that it's peaceful, though - for the most part. I don't think having rambunctious Pokemon around qualifies as truly peaceful, but compared to home, you could call this place normal.

At least the rambunctious pokemon can be put in their pokeballs when they get too troublesome.

[If only they could do that to the titans.]

[That would be hilarious.]

That can only do so much good, though. Eventually, you should try to work with them, at least I think so. It can't be fun to stay in a Pokeball for days on end.

I imagine being confined to a pokeball for too long would only make the behaviour worse.

[It has that effect on Blitz, at least.]

Though I do wonder what it is like in there...

I'm not sure. I hope it's not terribly boring in there, but I can't imagine it's anything like the outside world.

Amadeus doesn't seem to mind it, but it still makes me wonder...

[Not that he spends a lot of time in there. Armin prefers to let his little owl ride his shoulder.]

Perhaps once you've learned to talk to August, he could tell you about it?
