4th Recipe [Violet City, Video]
[The feed opens up on Jane's back as she bustles around the kitchen in the Violet City Inn - judging by how the camera isn't perfectly steady and the happy chatter of Pokemon nearby, someone else is filming. The video takes a turn - Dinah the Audino and Bettina the Golbat are fussing over a container of cinnamon, Dinah being the only one with hands to pour it over bowls of what looks to be rice pudding. Seems like Jane made them a treat, but she's still working?]
- August?
[The video shifts again to show Jane, the oven open behind her and holding a tray of...are those raisins? Come to think of it, there's a whole LOT of grapes left on the counter. Looks like someone got paid for her help in way too much food to eat before it goes bad.]
I didn't know you could work the 'gear! Have you been learning by watching me?
Delphoox!
[Jane chuckles, coming closer to put the tray on the table. Geez, that's a lot of raisins.] Goodness, I tell you I want to show you off and you get right ahead of me! Hold on, give me that so we can let everyone see you.
[August hands the 'gear over, and there's a blur before there's a clear view of Jane's team enjoying their special treat - and it's clear that August has become a very handsome shiny Delphox. He grins and ducks his head, shy, while the other Pokemon spot the 'gear and wave.]
I hope this isn't too much like tooting my own horn, but I do believe I have quite a good-looking team! And August has gained a secondary typing - he's Fire and Psychic now! [Jane sounds so excited by this.] I can't wait until we can actually converse, you know? But, erm, he does...need a little practice with his new powers. August, do you want to try something?
[The Delphox nods, removing a stick from his sleeve-fur. There's a subtle glow as he closes his eyes, and at first that glow surrounds the raisins, and they do begin to float...but when the glow disperses, they shoot out everywhere, and Jane and her Pokemon duck and cry out. The feed switches over to Jane's somewhat exasperated face.]
Ah! O-Okay, um, well, as you can see, he's...really not good at maintaining control yet. At least this time it wasn't anything that could hurt someone...but, I'm assuming practice is going to make perfect?

Could I ask you about his colouring though? It doesn't seem to be the same as in the pokedex entry.
[At that, though,] Ah, that's because he's something called "shiny"! They're not very common, but sometimes you'll find or hatch a Pokemon with an unusual coloring for its species. August, for example, hatched out of a strange egg I received. And yes, before you asked - he really did come out of an egg. It's weird, but it happened.
[Seriously, it is bizarre judging it by the standards of his world, but it seems normal in this one.]
Do all pokemon have a shiny form or is it just certain kinds? For example, my Amadeus is a hoothoot. Are there shiny hoothoots as well?
[Jane smiles welcomingly.] Ah, but where's my manners! My name is Jane Crocker, what's yours?

[Asgore smiles back. Yay, friendship!]
That seems like a very complicated type of magic. And if he has gained it already at a high level, it may simply be too much to handle easily. Like using a fire hose to water a garden.

...as for practice, well, some people learn more quickly than others, I suppose. It's like that with any skill set.
[She turns back to August, who is pointedly ignoring her to try and keep Bettina's long Golbat tongue out of his bowl; it's as if he knows Jane's talking about him but wants to be polite. He still sneaks looks, though.]
And gosh, I do plan on getting practice in as soon as possible, but I wanted to treat my team today.
But I really can't blame you on that at all, given that it seems like... well, it's practically like a birthday, isn't it?

Uh, just a tip: you should try and keep things you really don't want to be on fire away from fire Pokemon. I-it can be really unpredictable sometimes.
Really? He's been very good with not setting things on fire at random, though. It's the Psychic stuff he's having trouble with.
O-oh. Really? My fire type has have a lot of problems with that.
[She smiles hesitantly.] The fire thing. He sets a lot of fires.

I've never seen that Pokemon before, but if his magic is anything like a person's, I would imagine that it will take lots of practice to master it.
[Though there is one more point of interest...] You can speak with your Pokemon?
[As for that...] Yes, they can! If a Psychic-type Pokemon is strong enough, or you have a strong enough bond with it, it can communicate with you telepathically! I've gotten to speak to one before, it was incredibly interesting.
no subject
That is... interesting news to me. [He may or may not eye something offscreen for a moment.] Do they actually speak to you coherently? Or is it more of a nonverbal sort of communication?

So...are you okay in here? [She had seemed okay, she said no one had been hurt, but Roxy wanted to check anyways. When it was clear she was okay she added] Do you need any help cleaning up the raisin explosion? Also is that really how raisins are made?
[Action]
I'm alright - we'll be alright. And help would be great, thank you, Roxy. [At the other question,] It's faster to dry them in the oven than it is to leave them outside to dry, actually - and I don't exactly have space and equipment of my own to do it out there anyway.
[Action]
Do we throw them away? [It seems like a waste, but then again it's not like she has to ration anymore.]

"This time," you say. What dangerous objects was he flinging about before? Knives?
Not knives, thank goodness. He nearly beaned me in the face with my entire backpack.
[The backpack she somehow carries rice and beans in large quantities in. August yips dejectedly - he is sorry!]
...Okay. Maybe he's pretty hungry. ]
At least he isn't lighting everything on fire with his mind. Anne's pretty good with her psychic shit, maybe she'll help the poor bastard out if we put them together during training.
