Hey, everyone.
First of all: I'm feeling better.
Thanks to anyone that helped last month and, y'know, told me to see a doctor.
I did. I'm good.
Anyway, I have a question.
[ It's... one that she doesn't really want to ask but is, y'know, trying to make an effort to not completely ignore.
She's trying and therefore no one can criticize her. ]
What are birthdays like, where you're from?
We're all from different worlds and cultures and whatnot.
I just figured it'd be cool to learn about what other people might do.
Maybe I'd like something more than the typical cake and candles that happen where I'm from.

You seem to be from the same place I am, so I don't have much to offer that's different on birthday celebrations. But that's a cool topic! I'm curious too.
no subject
Yeah, right? Like... It's kind of wild to think about, really, how we're from all over.

Though I think it is strange that you might bring this subject up in particular.
Mayhap there is a date one should be aware of?
no subject
May 8th
That's my birthday
But it's not, like, a big deal or anything
It hasn't been for a while, at least

I am still learning the new names of these Moons, I am afraid.
Nevertheless, provided that assumption is correct, that does not give one terribly long to work with.
Provided they wished to do more than... "cake and candles," as it were.
no subject
Oh? They're called something else where you're from?
You'll have to teach me
I love learning about stuff like that
Anyway!
You don't have to do anything, please
[
I'm not anyone worth celebratingshe types and deletes. No, that's too self-depreciating. Even for her. Hm. ]I guess that's kind of why I'm asking
I've never been a huge fan of, like, the regular birthday celebrations

Though I believe that really, you should simply do something you would enjoy, if you don't wish to do the same sort of thing you've always done before.
no subject
I think I'd enjoy doing something low-key though
Nothing too fancy, just... the few friends I've made here, my Pokemon, and me
you know? nothing crazy

Well, once we almost had a party for my brother, when he was very small. But the Matron Mother decided it was in poor taste and called it off.
no subject
I mean, the celebration is pretty fun?
Or it can be
Sometimes I know it's nice to just feel, like, special for a day
But that's never really been the case for me
no subject
There are better things to celebrate than "you managed to survive being born," surely?
no subject
Being born is... special for some people
I'm not, like, really into it but when you've been through a lot
it can be nice to just take a day or whatever to celebrate the fact you're still here despite it all

But my family just does stuff like that. Weird stuff that's way too dangerous. I had a birthday last month and I didn't do anything for it. It was great, because I didn't have to prepare anything. But the month before that, I threw a party for my friend Rei. That was pretty great too, mostly because she'd never had one before. Because of that, I arranged a lot of typical things from what I'm used to so she'd have that experience, but I also got a bunch of disposable cameras for something extra.
Oh, but the best move I made was having it be a potluck. I saved a lot on food.
no subject
I like her style, actually
a potluck!!
genius idea, honestly
I can't cook either so, like, it'd save me AND everyone else from if I tried to provide the food
no subject
But yeah, thanks, it did work out well! I don't know if I'm much of a cook either. I mean, simple stuff is okay. But I've never tried much; too much effort.

Where I'm from, you usually provide or pay for the food yourself for your own birthday get-together, and it's rude to attend a birthday get-together like that without bringing a gift of some sort when the host is paying for your food and drink.
Is yours coming up soon?
no subject
Although sometimes even food is covered and it's STILL rude to not bring a gift
I always thought that was silly
May 8th so, yeah, I guess so!
I don't really think about it much but different worlds and all that, y'know? Can't help but wonder

And though it's a bit early, tanti auguri as well. I hope you have a good birthday.

I didn't see you were unwell, but I'm glad you're doing better.
no subject
And yeah, that's where I'm from too so... Sounds about right.
Adults tend to go out to karaoke and drink too much but, well, that never appealed to me.
no subject
Can't say I've gone drinking on my birthday, or at all, back home. Not old enough to. I can here though.
[And he had, a bit, during prom.]
