The Festival of Wishes!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Pewter City!
When: June 24th
Summary: It's time to celebrate the Festival of Wishes!

Pewter City is one of those towns that doesn't draw a lot of attention. It's nice and has that museum, but it never seems to be the scene of much excitement.

But today, that's different. Because today, Pewter City has been doffed up to the nines, with visitors arriving from everywhere to celebrate the Festival of Wishes. The skies are crowded with uBIRDs flying in people from all over Johto and Kanto. The streets are filled with cheerful noises and many in the crowd have come in their finest yukata and kimono, adding splashes of colour to what might otherwise be a drab crowd. And if you'd like to try out one of these beautiful garments yourself, there are plenty of nearby shops offering rentals for the visiting crowds.

Stalls have gone up all over town, most hawking various forms of street food: Takoyaki, Yakisoba, Kaarage and many others! And for those looking to satisfy a sweet tooth, there's plenty of shaved ice, chocolate-covered bananas and Taiyaki to go around. Hopefully, you brought an empty stomach, because it would be a shame to miss out on all these yummy goodies.

But it isn't just food stalls that dot the streets. A wide variety of festival games are also available. From shooting galleries to ring toss to small lottery games -- whatever you might be in the mood for can be found here. Stuffed animals and sweets are the most common prizes to be won, but who knows, perhaps if you get very lucky, you might even win an Evolution Stone.

And, of course, no festival would be complete without a Test of Courage. Are you brave? Is fear something you only know from the dictionary? Then why not prove it? Why not enter Pewter City most haunted dwelling (usually just an office building) and show your mettle to your friends or even that special someone? Who knows, you might even earn a kiss if you protect them from the many horrors that dwell within (AKA, volunteers in costumes, a few ghost pokemon, and so many 'creepy' paper mache props)

There are also various stalls dedicated to traditional arts and crafts. From Calligraphy to Origami, if you have an interest in these matters, you'd do well to check them out. And you can do more than just buy some nice decorative pieces for your home, or a cute little origami figure of your favourite pokemon partner; many of the stalls also offer visitors the chance to try their own hand at these traditional skills. Are you the type of person who is always looking to learn a new skill? Or have you perhaps mastered these skills already and do you want to show off? Why not come over here and spend some time?

(Who knows, you might even impress someone special!)

And once night has fully fallen, the skies will light up, not just with the light of the stars and the moon, but with the many bright colours of fireworks! If you aren't completely tired out yet from all the festival games, why not sit down, relax, (maybe drink a beer if you are old enough) and enjoy the beautiful spectacle happening above you.

---

But all of that cheer doesn't really answer the big question -- what is the Festival of Wishes?

Keen eyes (and not so keen eyes, really, they are everywhere) will be able to spot various decorations shaped like the pokemon Jirachi dotting the stalls everywhere. From small plush toys to folded origami figures, Jirachi's cheerful face can be found everywhere. There even is a theatre performance explaining the whole tale, but for those too busy stuffing their faces to partake in (ugh) culture, it all comes down to this: Jirachi is the Wish Pokemon. During the festival, people write down their wishes, hoping that Jirachi might fulfil them.

Of course, there is never a guarantee Jirachi will be around. It's been known to sleep a lot. But why not give it a try? It can't hurt, right?

[G'raha isn't the only one here practicing his skills. Dimitri has been giving it a go as well, but he's not alone here. Instead, sitting patiently with him at the table is an Alolan Marowak. Her bone club has been set neatly on the table - unlit, because there will be no fire hazards today - and her little claws are patiently folding out paper stars.]

[Like, a lot of paper stars.]

[So many paper stars.]

[Dimitri is clearly trying to follow along her lead, but he just can't quite get the lines right... Hafren doesn't seem to mind, and is lining up his own wonky paper stars along hers. Some of them seem to be encroaching upon G'raha's side of the table, at this rate...]
gachatia: (big smile)

[He doesn't seem to mind, though he does notice when they begin to catch his eye, and he pauses in his current project to take in the sheer amount of tiny little things, then look over to Dimitri and his diligent Marowak.]

...You are making a veritable sea of stars, it seems.

[Hold on, let him look a bit closer...wow, how precise! And tiny!]

It surely requires a steady hand! Count me impressed.
nastyboy: (DM: Roll intimidation.)

[Hearing another voice break through his concentration has Dimitri start, although it doesn't affect the star he was making. That already had some incorrect folds on it.]

Ah - oh, yes. Hafren is taking to it quite well, although I must confess that all the skill is in her hands. [Paws? Claws?] Such delicate work with only my fingers is... incredibly difficult.

I suppose that is why it is an art.

I apologize, however. We are clearly getting in your way. [Let him just... try to figure out how to get more of these on their side...]
gachatia: (asdfghjkl)

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to startle you-

[G'raha flinches slightly at the reaction - he really hadn't meant to scare anybody! He's like, the least intimidating guy in the world right now. But Dimitri rebounds quick enough, which is a relief.]

-But neither of you are in my way at all. This space is for everyone, no matter how dexterously they can be. In fact, if it's not too much trouble...how does one make one of those little stars?
nastyboy: (I feel bad for anyone who has ever)

[personal profile] nastyboy 2022-08-11 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, a light breeze would have startled me. I was simply so deep in my concentration, you see.

[Because Faerghans don't do anything in half measures. That's kind of a problem with the mental illness and stubbornness - ]

[Anyway]

Well, first... Ah, come, Hafren can show you.

[The little Marowak looks up, and wordlessly slides over an untouched piece of pretty red paper over to G'raha. Hello, new student.]
gachatia: (shy boy! shy shy boy!)

[personal profile] gachatia 2022-08-14 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Even so, I do apologize.

[Listen just because Dimitri's mental health isn't great is no excuse to be rude. He nods to Hafren and gratefully takes the paper, waiting attentively for her instruction.]
nastyboy: (Might fuck around and let nature)

[personal profile] nastyboy 2022-08-20 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[With the paper having been taking, Hafren just gives an absolutely silent little nod, before just... clambering up onto the table. Yup! That's what she's doing!]

[This is all in the name of holding out her own paper there against the table so that it's easier to see just what her little hands are doing. Patiently, she begins the first folds, pausing with each one to make sure that the two humans are following along properly.]

[Don't worry about any mistakes. If it looks like a fold isn't quite right, or shouldn't be creased, she reaches over with her bone club for a gentle prod.]
gachatia: (alright but consider this)

[personal profile] gachatia 2022-08-27 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
[G'raha follows along very attentively, responding with gratefulness to Hafren's instructions when he misfolds something. Hey, it happens - he's not perfect, and would never style himself as such.]

You're quite fortunate to have such a talented Pokemon companion.
nastyboy: (all icons courtesy of azuremoon) (I only trust Felix as far as I can throw)

[personal profile] nastyboy 2022-09-04 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. All of them are quite talented, really, even if many to different areas.

[Dimitri beams at Hafren, and earns a small pat to his head for his trouble.]

I have a Rattata and a Spearow that are actually incredibly talented at games, as a matter of fact. You would not find more talented little strategists anywhere. It is amazing the sort of things one's companions get into, if you help them explore.
