The Festival of Wishes!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Pewter City!
When: June 24th
Summary: It's time to celebrate the Festival of Wishes!

Pewter City is one of those towns that doesn't draw a lot of attention. It's nice and has that museum, but it never seems to be the scene of much excitement.

But today, that's different. Because today, Pewter City has been doffed up to the nines, with visitors arriving from everywhere to celebrate the Festival of Wishes. The skies are crowded with uBIRDs flying in people from all over Johto and Kanto. The streets are filled with cheerful noises and many in the crowd have come in their finest yukata and kimono, adding splashes of colour to what might otherwise be a drab crowd. And if you'd like to try out one of these beautiful garments yourself, there are plenty of nearby shops offering rentals for the visiting crowds.

Stalls have gone up all over town, most hawking various forms of street food: Takoyaki, Yakisoba, Kaarage and many others! And for those looking to satisfy a sweet tooth, there's plenty of shaved ice, chocolate-covered bananas and Taiyaki to go around. Hopefully, you brought an empty stomach, because it would be a shame to miss out on all these yummy goodies.

But it isn't just food stalls that dot the streets. A wide variety of festival games are also available. From shooting galleries to ring toss to small lottery games -- whatever you might be in the mood for can be found here. Stuffed animals and sweets are the most common prizes to be won, but who knows, perhaps if you get very lucky, you might even win an Evolution Stone.

And, of course, no festival would be complete without a Test of Courage. Are you brave? Is fear something you only know from the dictionary? Then why not prove it? Why not enter Pewter City most haunted dwelling (usually just an office building) and show your mettle to your friends or even that special someone? Who knows, you might even earn a kiss if you protect them from the many horrors that dwell within (AKA, volunteers in costumes, a few ghost pokemon, and so many 'creepy' paper mache props)

There are also various stalls dedicated to traditional arts and crafts. From Calligraphy to Origami, if you have an interest in these matters, you'd do well to check them out. And you can do more than just buy some nice decorative pieces for your home, or a cute little origami figure of your favourite pokemon partner; many of the stalls also offer visitors the chance to try their own hand at these traditional skills. Are you the type of person who is always looking to learn a new skill? Or have you perhaps mastered these skills already and do you want to show off? Why not come over here and spend some time?

(Who knows, you might even impress someone special!)

And once night has fully fallen, the skies will light up, not just with the light of the stars and the moon, but with the many bright colours of fireworks! If you aren't completely tired out yet from all the festival games, why not sit down, relax, (maybe drink a beer if you are old enough) and enjoy the beautiful spectacle happening above you.

---

But all of that cheer doesn't really answer the big question -- what is the Festival of Wishes?

Keen eyes (and not so keen eyes, really, they are everywhere) will be able to spot various decorations shaped like the pokemon Jirachi dotting the stalls everywhere. From small plush toys to folded origami figures, Jirachi's cheerful face can be found everywhere. There even is a theatre performance explaining the whole tale, but for those too busy stuffing their faces to partake in (ugh) culture, it all comes down to this: Jirachi is the Wish Pokemon. During the festival, people write down their wishes, hoping that Jirachi might fulfil them.

Of course, there is never a guarantee Jirachi will be around. It's been known to sleep a lot. But why not give it a try? It can't hurt, right?

"I'm no Dimitri, but you wouldn't wear me out, stud. Promise." He winks. Again, there's definitely an extra innuendo in there. Because of course there is.

Oh, that laugh is nice though; it gets the smile on Sylvain's lips just a touch wider, the flash of teeth there. It's not quite cheeky, a little more sincere, and he squeeze's Claude's hand in turn.

The poor entrance attendant gets just as much a kick out of Sylvain as the papercraft merchant did. That is: none. Especially when she asks if it's just the pair of them and Sylvain's response is an immediate: "don't think this place could possibly handle any more hotness if there were more of us." She gives him a flat look, and curtly points for them to head in. Even her Pokémon coworker manages to produce an identical unimpressed expression. A banette, he thinks its called.

"Tough crowd, huh?" Sylvain laments in a stage whisper to Claude as they head inside, and immediately the brightness of the outside fades into the artificial dark of the haunted house.

Man, Claude's missed this. The joking around, the innuendo, the feeling of being with a kindred spirit. Claude loves all his boyfriends, deeply, with an intensity that steals his breath sometimes, but none of them are ever so effortlessly on the same page with him as Sylvain is. None of them are as lighthearted and teasing and relaxed as Sylvain is. And that's something he thinks he and Sylvain both need from each other - someone else who doesn't take everything so seriously. When it had just been Claude...even after they'd adjusted to the loss of Sylvain, being the only person lightening the mood had been rough. With everyone else being so much more serious or anxious or depressed, there'd been no one to lighten his mood. He hadn't realized how much he'd needed Sylvain just for that - and he hopes he helps Sylvain just as much in turn.

Hard to tell when Sylvain never lets on that anything bothers him, of course.

For now, though, as the darkness falls, Claude just grins - and leans up to give Sylvain a peck on the cheek, now that they have a moment in private. Extremely innocent, for them, but then Claude's just whetting Sylvain's appetite. "It's fine. I'm the only one you need to impress right now."

It's easier to keep all that to himself. Sylvain grew up with the likes of Ingrid and Dimitri and Felix, who sure as hell needed the mood boost of a comedian for a friend. What's a little choking on his own suffering to see them distracted from their burden of responsibilities? It's always been worth it. He's never faltered on that.

Doesn't mean he can't appreciate the fact he can just exist sometimes without having to channel that part of himself to lessen everyone else's worries. Sometimes it's just nice to let whatever stupid, or ridiculous, or thirsty nonsense fall out of his mouth and have somebody roll with it instead of scold him.

Just like now, as he smirks about the kiss, and blatantly ignores a poorly costumed attendant try to reach a hand out of a fake wall to not-grab them. But he does wait half a beat to make a show of getting an arm around Claude's middle, and pulling him up close like he means to defend him from the clawing hand before it retreats back into the false wall. "So is it working or should I have made a speech about protecting you from wall ghosts?"

Claude grins as Sylvain pulls him close, and readily takes the excuse to cozy up to him for exactly what it is. He tosses a wink in the direction of the hand, like a little thank you - the attendants, he reflects, are either going to be sick of them by the time they leave, or rooting for them. "Oh, you're always impressive," he replies, giving Sylvain a sultry smile. "But you can't tease me with the prospect of a speech like that and not make it, you know."
