The Festival of Wishes!

Who: Everyone!
Where: Pewter City!
When: June 24th
Summary: It's time to celebrate the Festival of Wishes!

Pewter City is one of those towns that doesn't draw a lot of attention. It's nice and has that museum, but it never seems to be the scene of much excitement.

But today, that's different. Because today, Pewter City has been doffed up to the nines, with visitors arriving from everywhere to celebrate the Festival of Wishes. The skies are crowded with uBIRDs flying in people from all over Johto and Kanto. The streets are filled with cheerful noises and many in the crowd have come in their finest yukata and kimono, adding splashes of colour to what might otherwise be a drab crowd. And if you'd like to try out one of these beautiful garments yourself, there are plenty of nearby shops offering rentals for the visiting crowds.

Stalls have gone up all over town, most hawking various forms of street food: Takoyaki, Yakisoba, Kaarage and many others! And for those looking to satisfy a sweet tooth, there's plenty of shaved ice, chocolate-covered bananas and Taiyaki to go around. Hopefully, you brought an empty stomach, because it would be a shame to miss out on all these yummy goodies.

But it isn't just food stalls that dot the streets. A wide variety of festival games are also available. From shooting galleries to ring toss to small lottery games -- whatever you might be in the mood for can be found here. Stuffed animals and sweets are the most common prizes to be won, but who knows, perhaps if you get very lucky, you might even win an Evolution Stone.

And, of course, no festival would be complete without a Test of Courage. Are you brave? Is fear something you only know from the dictionary? Then why not prove it? Why not enter Pewter City most haunted dwelling (usually just an office building) and show your mettle to your friends or even that special someone? Who knows, you might even earn a kiss if you protect them from the many horrors that dwell within (AKA, volunteers in costumes, a few ghost pokemon, and so many 'creepy' paper mache props)

There are also various stalls dedicated to traditional arts and crafts. From Calligraphy to Origami, if you have an interest in these matters, you'd do well to check them out. And you can do more than just buy some nice decorative pieces for your home, or a cute little origami figure of your favourite pokemon partner; many of the stalls also offer visitors the chance to try their own hand at these traditional skills. Are you the type of person who is always looking to learn a new skill? Or have you perhaps mastered these skills already and do you want to show off? Why not come over here and spend some time?

(Who knows, you might even impress someone special!)

And once night has fully fallen, the skies will light up, not just with the light of the stars and the moon, but with the many bright colours of fireworks! If you aren't completely tired out yet from all the festival games, why not sit down, relax, (maybe drink a beer if you are old enough) and enjoy the beautiful spectacle happening above you.

---

But all of that cheer doesn't really answer the big question -- what is the Festival of Wishes?

Keen eyes (and not so keen eyes, really, they are everywhere) will be able to spot various decorations shaped like the pokemon Jirachi dotting the stalls everywhere. From small plush toys to folded origami figures, Jirachi's cheerful face can be found everywhere. There even is a theatre performance explaining the whole tale, but for those too busy stuffing their faces to partake in (ugh) culture, it all comes down to this: Jirachi is the Wish Pokemon. During the festival, people write down their wishes, hoping that Jirachi might fulfil them.

Of course, there is never a guarantee Jirachi will be around. It's been known to sleep a lot. But why not give it a try? It can't hurt, right?

"Shiro!" As if on queue Byleth calls out from a small ways away, waving to them both as he weaves his way around to meet them. Shiro is given a squeeze and a little peck on the lips. Armin is greeted with a short polite bow.

"Sorry, I got a bit turned around, and then Breakfast needed to stop and eat." He gestures to the Meowstic in the little knit sweater following closely at his heel.

"Byleth, hey." There is so much affection in the words. And a whole lot of light in his face as soon as he sees Byleth - plus a little touch of flush across his cheeks. He leans into the contact, staying close even when Byleth bows to Armin.

That grin on his face broadens, spying the Meowstic. "Hey, Breakfast. I like your outfit."

But right - back to the meeting. "Armin, this is Byleth. Byleth, this is Armin. He's one of my oldest friends here."

It's not hard to notice the way Shiro lights up like one of those Christmas trees when they meet up with Byleth. Armin has a pretty keen eye for detail, but really, he doesn't need it here. And honestly, it's good to see Shiro this happy. He deserves it, and it is unfortunate that this world hasn't always been able to grant him that.

Which means that whatever kind of person Byleth will end up being, Armin, for one, is already inclined to like him based just on how happy he makes Shiro. But then again, he wouldn't be making Shiro this happy if he wasn't a nice person, right?

Armin accepts the short bow and tries to mirror it in a slightly less confident manner. He comes from a place where they shake hands, but if this is the way people greet each other where Byleth is from, he's willing to adapt. "It's very nice to meet you. I have to say, I've been looking forward to this. It's been a while since someone made Shiro this giddy."

"Meow!" Breakfast replies happily, going to hug Shiro's leg.

"Well met, Armin." Byleth says gently, "It's wonderful to be meeting Shiro's friends. Thing you for looking after him for so long."

He punctuates that with a warm smile.

"Giddy? Really?" And a sidelong, wry glance to Shiro. "Well, I'm not terribly exciting, but I hope I fill the expectations regardless."
shiro2hero: (give me the dokis)

"Giddy?"

He echos Byleth's words in confusion. Mostly while he's busy scratching Breakfast behind the ears. Hello buddy. How are you? It's so good to see you!

His cheeks flush, feeling Byleth's eyes on him, and ducks his head. Somehow even lower than necessary to look at Breakfast. "I'm - Armin come on, you're embarrassing me. I'm not that bad."

He's just... happy. This has made Shiro very happy.

"Practically floating," Armin confirms.

Sorry, Shiro. Armin might not be the worst of your children when it comes to teasing, but even he cannot resist this obvious opportunity. It helps that it is a good sort of teasing, about a very good thing that is happening.

"And I'm not sure I've done much to look after him. No more than he has done to look after me. He's always been very dependable. And he taught me a lot about space."

As if to make up for the light teasing, Armin adds some compliments too, wing-manning a situation that has already been wing-manned.

"My goodness. Shiro I had no idea. You're so cute..." He jumps the man playfully with his elbow before he's mercifully distracted by the mention of space.

"Oh! Did he? He taught me about space as well. It's kind of how we bonded. I had no idea that such wonders and incredible things existed outside of our little world. It makes me feels small but in a nice sort of way." A cozy kind of small.

"I bet you could teach classes on space, Shiro. I know there's plenty of people who would love to learn. You know so much."
shiro2hero: (shit i can't believe that worked)

The look on his face for the moment is the look of a man who wants to leap into the nearest volcano. Both at Armin's praise and at the notion that he's been 'practically floating'. That would be jinxing things somehow, wouldn't it? Probably not, says the rational part of his brain, which doesn't get a say here right now, thank you.

"I'm not... I don't float, it's - he's exaggerating."

Thankfully, he's not too flustered. And doesn't move away from Byleth, just idly linking their arms after he gets nudged.

"Maybe," he says, in response to the urge to open classes. "I wouldn't mind... there's probably space in the observatory somewhere."

"You should definitely teach some classes." Armin is absolutely here for this. "You are a good teacher and you have experiences that nobody else in this world -- well, not native to this world, at least -- has. I'm sure there'd be plenty of people interested in hearing what you'd have to say.
