Summary: Sandalphon, while (almost) having no idea how to do so, hosts a birthday party for his boyfriend. Does it go well? That's to be discovered





[ sandalphon's made the best arrangements he could, making it clear that the angel's put a lot of effort into this party, despite not understanding the custom like most do. the party is mostly held indoors to avoid the heat, but the outside gardens were decorated all the same to match corrin's general preferences. from string lights hung across both venues to the dinnerware almost being pulled out of a fantasy book, corrin's party was ready to begin.

the party's main attraction was corrin's cake, painstakingly baked and decorated for the birthday boy from his boyfriend. a whole day and a couple of burnt fingers later resulted in a stunning four tier cake with several edible flowers decorating the sides. the surrounding area was meant to be an area for guests to leave any gifts they had brought for corrin, but they were also free to simply give the gift directly to him instead.

the buffet table was littered with finger food, with small plates available to the side for the partygoer to load up as much as they can. the table also has entrees for those whose appetites lean on the bigger side, if they do not wish to indulge on the snacks. the beverage station was filled with icy cold drinks as well, but there was an odd addition for such a summery themed party: coffee. if asked, sandalphon will easily whip up a fresh cup of coffee; hot, iced, and everything in between.

off to the side, there was a pokemon play area: for those who couldn't dare leave their pokemon at home, they are free to find themselves playing with sandalphon's pokemon, who are more than gleeful to bring joy to any new possible friends. the area was a vast field surrounded by plants and flowers, with a large shade tree providing solace from the fiery sun. water pokemon even have a pool available to them to enjoy.

he accepts the hands in his own, thumbs sliding across the backs of corrin’s as a form of comfort. ]

Nonsense. [ a snort. ] I don’t have a birth date, nor do I actually remember my true age. I count my age by the century.

[ alright grandpa but he can and WILL love on you big time so there's that!! ]

[ he'll just go ahead and interlock their fingers. ]

Maybe you don't need a "birth date" to have a party in celebration of you. You deserve one for just existing ... for being here. That's worthy of a special occasion, I think.

sandalphon eagerly tightens his grip on corrin's hand. ]

I... I really don't know if I do deserve it, however... [ his smile is genuine. ] Thank you for believing I deserve it.

[ he knows why objections to this may exist from his partner, but he will tell Sandalphon a hundred times over that he is more than just his past. ] You try really hard to make people happy with coffee, and you made my life a hundred times more special by being in it. You deserve every last wonderful thing I can possibly give you.

[ a pure laugh escapes him, pulling corrin close to himself. ] I hope you don't get any ideas during this birthday party. Wait until we're done with this one before you plan anything.

Fine. But you better watch out! [ he laughs and wraps his arms even tighter around Sandalphon. ] I’m going to enjoy all the hard work you put into this occasion without any distractions.

[ man, he feels weird, laughing and hugging him so much. but it makes him smile, so he can't complain. ] Alright, alright. Don't let me be one of the distractions now.

Okay ... if you insist. [ he can't help being a lovestruck fool, Sandy! he loosens his hold, taking both of the angel's hands into his. ] I'll go and mingle now. But please know just how much I appreciate this ... how much I appreciate you. [ and he'll just go right ahead and steal another kiss, because he can. ]

[ he accepts the love and affection eagerly, even if his face doesn't show it. but corrin also deserves to be with his friends today. he can't hog him forever. ]

Wait, what? My gift?

[ he lights up and blushes. ]

Oh my gods ... Sandalphon! You didn't have to get me a gift ... this party is more than enough!

[ he smiles fondly. only the best for corrin!! ] But again, when you're ready.

Oh, pretty please! I don't think I can wait a moment longer. I'm too excited!

Alright, alright... bear with me.

[ he runs into the house with a smile on his face. it takes some time, but sandy then comes out with a stupidly sugary concotion that he's not even sure he can call it coffee still. ]

This is only one half of your gift, but... here. Try it. Though I'd understand if you wouldn't want to try it.

[ Corrin waits while Sandalphon heads into the house, not really knowing what to expect when he returns. and it's ... oh, wow! is that ... coffee? it doesn't look anything like the regular ones he makes ...

wait-- was this ... made? just for him? sweet, the way he might like it? ]

Whoa, what's this? Could this be coffee? [ he takes the mug and sniffs it. and gets a bit of the cream on his nose, which makes him giggle. ] Ehe! It is coffee! And it smells sweet...! Of course I'm going to try this! Right now, as a matter of fact.

[ carefully, he raises the mug to his lips, and blows a little. just to ensure he doesn't burn his tongue.

and takes a sip. ]

[ Corrin finally removes the cup from his mouth, frothy moustache and all, while his red eyes practically sparkle with awe. ]

What is this!? It's coffee, but ... it's sweet! It's sweet and so yummy! And I love it! I really, really love it!!

sandalphon let a sigh of relief escape his lips. sure it may be an abomination to him, but he still cares about corrin. he didn’t want to give him a terrible drink, especially on his birthday. ]

I’m relieved you enjoy it. [ he smiles. ] It’s a cappuccino, just with a lot more added sugar and whipped cream. I figured if I was going to get you to like coffee, I might as well cater to your tastes.

[ he's heard plenty of Sandalphon's opinions over what constitutes are Real Coffee, and seen the way he scowls when they pass cafés that offer creamy, sugary abominations that makes the angel's hair stand on end. it's always brought Corrin great amusement, but never the urge to try any despite his penchant for adoring sweets.

and now here he was, trying it - produced by Sandalphon himself. he knows how much of a big deal this would have been for him. is he tearing up over coffee in the middle of his party? maybe, but it's his birthday, he's allowed to!

the prince places the beverage down gently on a side table before he pulls his boyfriend into a long, tight hug. ]

Thank you. [ he doesn't want to let go just yet. he is just ... so happy. ]

Ah, don't start crying on me--!

[ the hug was unexpected. but it's definitely not unwelcome. sandalphon melts into the hug, smiling as he buries his face into corrin's shoulder. he deserves the fullest of hugs on a special day after all. eventually he does pull his face out to speak again, smile never leaving his face. ]

[ he just keeps hugging Sandalphon. nope. not letting go just yet. in silence, until he finally says: ]

I don't want to drink the coffee, because then it's gone forever.

[ though he isn't exactly complaining about the long hug. he likes it. ]
