Summary: The Voltron Crew plans a little party

Log:

[Okay, cue the spy music. Stage one of the plan? Convince Lance they have a mission to go on. Try to keep the story straight. (Keeping the mission straight is not a guarantee.) Stage two, set up party ahead of the oncoming group, form sugary ambush. Except Hunk has to use whatever materials he can scrounge from supplies, around, or from available pokemon.]

[Final stage. Surprise! Keep food away from surprised Lance so he doesn't destroy the desert table through flailing- that is if the surprise is successful. Actually Hunk'll just put Dragon Roll the Gyarados out so he's hiding the whole thing. And will be between any Paladin-induced mishaps.]

[In short there's a party on the beach, with the decorations being mostly local flowers grown with the help of some pokemon teamwork, roasted and steamed veggies with herbs, sweet fruit-based dishes, mochi, and rice-milk ice cream.]

[Time to eat up and enjoy Lance's birthday!]

[Luckily it's 70% joke. Hunk's not a particularly violent dude. 30% has the modifier that this table isn't one in a house, it's one that's largely expendable, and he's been at this all day.]

Like you're building the town in Johto or you built one back in your home universe.

[Either way, Hunk sounds like he admires that. Making the world better, creating homes and better lives, really is a worthwhile goal. Were it a game there'd be some approving text on the screen with some affirming arrow.]

[Radley smiles.]

Well, in Johto I'm not really building a town ... yet. Although I do have plans for improving the transportation system. But back home, yeah, most of the good things in that town were because of me and my friends.

[He still worries how much of the bad they may have contributed to as well, but he hopes that overall their presence was good. He will likely always be haunted by how many of the miners died thanks to Malcolm, however.]

That's great, though. And honestly, I was kind of sad seeing how great all my friends were doing and knowing they'd remember nothing going back. But even thinking someone could improve the transportation system? That's something that sticks. We might forget, but it does make me hopeful to know our mark is remembered here.

[Sort of a bittersweet thought, but he gives Radley a heavy pat on his shoulder with a now free hand. He's a good egg, it seems like. And Hunk is... okay he's not fully capable of being cynical but he's never seen much reason to doubt the guy.]

[Radley gives a smile, but now it's sad.]

We really won't remember anything going back? Maybe that would be for the best so we wouldn't be worrying like we are now, but ... I hate to forget everyone....

Yeah, I know what you mean. [He doesn't want to forget either, but at the same time it would be very awkward.]

In my universe there are a lot of other timelines, a lot of 'em with the same people. I kind of hope we're just from different timelines and we won't forget.

[But everyone seems so sure of it that it's disappointing.]

Hey, it's possible. I've been learning there's a lot of Earths too. But so you mean if you're from different timelines you'd be more likely to remember?

[Again he wonders what those who have gone and come back could contribute. But maybe it's better not to know what will happen. Or maybe it's different for different people.]

Yeah. So like... Most of my friends are from different times. Shiro and Lance and Pidge have been around for years. Allura is... Allura had to do something important and is no longer on the team. [He's not going to specify that to people that aren't in the know, Allura should be able to enjoy life without that on her, he's just going to phrase it that way for the best.]

So the times that they left and returned were all before when I went. They should have remembered. Apparently this happens to according to everyone.

So the only way we would remember is if we're from different universes. But if we're from different universes, that also means we could be risking losing time. Some people really, really can't afford that luxury- but if we're not, and we maintain memories? That would be such a good outcome. Especially since some of our universes have parallel words and the tech to reach them.

[Because honestly if he found someone to care about as much as Lance and Pidge do about each other, he'd want to get back to them.]

Not unless it's everyone. [Hunk makes himself a little sad there. He's not been here long, but he's not had one case of hearing otherwise.] And I don't think someone would want to forget their spouse.

[Pidge and Lance meant so much to him. If there'd been something there back home surely he'd have seen signs of it between them. He... He doesn't know. For their sake, he hopes.]

[But he doesn't want to bring the party down. So he focuses on that hopeful part.] But while we're here, we might as well enjoy our vacation? Right?

[Radley winces.]

Oh. Yeah, they sure wouldn't.

[He smiles a bit. This is hardly a vacation for him when he's so worried about his other Pokemon, but he doesn't want to bring the party down either.]

We need to make this day good for Lance, definitely.

Don't worry. Lance has always been easy. Making a day good for him is as simple as a compliment. Didn't bring a gift? Doesn't matter. Say something nice about him. It's a gift as good as anything expensive.

[Especially if it's not a throwaway compliment. If it's something that you thought about for like, ten seconds. Lance? Totally good with a ten-second calculated compliment.]

[Though Hunk is pretty fortunate to be surrounded by friends that value love over any kind of money or power.]

Okay. Cool. That's nice that he's that easy to please, especially under these circumstances.

[He observes people by nature, so hopefully he can observe Lance enough to pick something out. He's never met the guy before that he recalls.]

Well... we were away from home for so long- flat broke, too, that we kind of developed an appreciation for the little things. Especially since a jerkwad conquered Earth while we were gone, and when we came back we had to kick his butt? But it still meant the worldwide economy was in shambles and it was a lot of scrounging and rebuilding.

Basically I'm pretty sure a pretty enough seashell could make him happy if you said, "It made me think of you."

[Hunk snorts lightly. They've gone through so much that he is at least greatful for the kind-of-humility that it's given them (no way Lance could be fully humble but that's kind a highlight of his personality.)]

[Radley stares at him.]

... I hope it won't be like that when we get back to Johto.

[He chuckles.]

I'll look for seashells.

[He's not really kidding. Those do make nice gifts.]

I seriously doubt it...

[But suddenly Hunk is looking concerned.] I mean, everyone keeps talking about how great this place is, and what a nice second chance it is. It wouldn't just like... get worse out of nowhere. Especially for people who have been here for years.

[His voice might even crack there, 'cause he doesn't want his buddies to lose all this calm they've found, after everything they've been through. And on a very minor note he doesn't want to be attacked by powerful pokemon.]

I'm sure it'll be okay. You're right, it doesn't seem likely.

[Unless Team Rocket does something awful while they're gone, but he won't voice that.]
