Surfing Swarm!

[The video feed opens with Radley filming as he goes outside on his property to see what some of his Pokemon are exclaiming about. He almost drops the PokeGear when he sees.]

What the ... ?!??!!!

[Pikachu and Alolan Raichu are surfing in the pond.]

Just ... how?!??!

[Evie makes an exclamation of delight and runs over to the shore.]

Evie! Evie, no! Come back!

[Evie has already leaped onto the surf board to ride with Raichu. She warbles in delight.

Radley slaps his forehead.]

Oh gosh. Evie!

[He's terrified of Electric types attacking him, but he's more afraid of them getting mad and hurting Evie. He watches for a moment, tense, but they seem friendly and welcoming to her being there. Seeing that, he keeps filming the video, but it's probably shaky until his hands stop shaking.]

So ... I'm not gonna antagonize these guys. But ... what do I do about this? How are they even surfing in my pond?!

[A crowd is starting to gather outside the property fence, enjoying the show. Seeing this, Radley ponders. If Evie's not in danger, and people like this, maybe it can turn to his advantage. Maybe he can subtly hint at the crowd getting some food to eat while watching the entertainment.]

... They are pretty skilled at what they do. I have to say I'm impressed. Anyone wanna drop by and see this in person?

[Two or three obviously impatient people in Keldor's queue have given up. It means his wait has been reduced by, at most, 45 minutes.]

Even if they did not leave, I am prepared to wait.

You're pretty determined! That's cool. I would be too, if it was something I wanted.

I need this creature. Violet City's gym specialises in the flying type, and I need something that is strong against it.

[He moves forward. About ten or eleven people ahead now.]

Perhaps it would be easier to visit the Dark Cave or travel along Route 32 to find appropriate opponents, but I wish to see if luck will smile on me here first.

[These 'chu might be of a sufficiently high level to make it so they'll last against Falkner and his trainees, if the difficulty in getting one is an indication.]

Oh yeah, they would be good for that!

It's worth a try anyway.

[Despite the success that came after Pokeball In Face Guy, most people are still coming away empty-handed. One of the people who didn't get anything walks past, clearly soaked with water. Not because they'd fallen in, but because one of the Pikachus surfed so close and turned so hard that it sent a wave at the hopeful before even a ball could be thrown.]

And I for one am willing to try.

[Should hopefully be thinking up a strategy while he's waiting.]

So what's your plan for getting one?

[Radley is honestly curious.]

Timing, it might appear. I have not heard anyone giving instructions to their pokemon, so that approach has been ruled out.

[Wouldn't be all that fair to the 'chus if they had to dodge attacks and balls at the same time, apparently.]

Timing, huh? Like throw the ball when they're distracted?

Something like that.

[Which brings up the question of how to distract one of them long enough to throw successfully.

Or he'd think about that if he wasn't being elbowed. ]

The line is not being "held up". Patience, please.

People sure get impatient. This guy reminds me of Malcolm.

[The line moves, but not because of Rude Guy.]

[Sigh. Time to be a kingly diplomat.]

I dunno what that word means, but yeah; I'd like to move ahead.

[Someone behind Rude Guy protests, but Keldor's trying to keep the peace ~~and not make the Jennies' jobs harder~~.]

[If Rude Guy causes a scene anyways, it won't be Keldor's fault.]

[Radley waits to see if the guy will settle down. If anything starts happening, Radley will likely make commentary similar to things he said mocking Malcolm.]

[He doesn't. Well, in a way he does. He's not yelling or anything like that, but now that Keldor has, in a sense, given him permission to cut in front, he's now pestering the next person, who isn't as willing to keep the peace the way Keldor was.]

Just because that other guy let you in front of him means I will!

Yeh might wanna!

C'mon you guys! Stop it or we'll get in trouble!

[Another sigh.

To think, Keldor wants a job where he would have to put up with this shit all day.]

Oh, are we five years old today? You got a little bit closer thanks to my friend. Be satisfied with that.

[And he hoped the guy would not succeed in catching a Pokemon. It sounded like he didn't deserve one.]

[The wrong person got hit in the face with a pokeball, if you asked Keldor.]

[Radley sighs and shakes his head. He doesn't want someone in line being blamed for his sarcasm, so he decides not to say anything more about that loud enough for the jerk to hear.]

I wonder if anyone will get kicked out if they don't behave....

That is a distinct possibility.

[He's got his own voice lowered too; just enough so that Rude Guy won't overhear too much if he tries to eavesdrop.]

If he persists in his boorishness he will be ejected.

[He may or may not be hoping for the guy to get kicked out. Keldor had been decent to him, and look where it got him!]

I should consider this practise for when I do regain my crown and birthright. After all, this may be the most peaceful act of diplomacy I will ever experience.

I would hope so.

[He's very glad he doesn't sell Eevees to just anyone.]

That's good if you can get something worthwhile out of this experience with this guy.

I do not wish to minimise or excuse such behaviours, but this is rather mild compared to the abuses the Eternians have subjected me to over the years.

[It's honestly better than epithets like "blue skin" or "rice eater", but... Not by much.]

... That's true, you've been through much worse.

[Keldor smiles at that. Having a friend who understands the kinds of things he's been through in life makes him feel better about himself and his situation. Whatever he goes through won't be gone through alone.]

It appears I will not have to wait much longer.

[Including Rude Guy, there's now five people ahead. Time to get to work finalising that strategy of his.]

[Radley is happy about that too, and that he also finally told someone about all he had been through himself.]

Cool. Have you figured out a good point to throw the ball?

I am contemplating it.

[Now that he's closer, he can see the 'chus better. And now that he's got a better vantage point, he can see that one of the Raichus looks ... different from the others. Darker-coloured. It's also the one that the people are targeting the most with their balls, and is the one working the hardest at avoiding capture.]

Radley. One of these creatures is not like the others.

[Once again he angles the feed so that the Raichu in question can be seen.]

... Is it a Shiny, maybe?

[He realizes he has no idea what a Shiny Raichu looks like.]

I do not know.
