Has everyone received one of these? [She held up the lovely decorated invitation to the Halloween contest.] I was curious if anyone has done of these before. It looks like wonderful fun.

I was thinking of attending, but I'm having a bit of trouble deciding on a story to tell. Would anyone be willing to listen to a few of my ideas and give me some feedback?

I love dressing up, too, so I'm quite excited to create my costume depending on which story I pick. Though, I've never made a costume in the muggle way before. Would anyone have tips on how to make one?

Oh, I do appreciate that a lot.

See, I'm from the UK back home, and I know a lot of spooky types of stories from there, but, in a lot of cases, they might not even be familiar to most people where I'm from. So, I'm a bit worried about using something that people might not understand.

Wouldn't that make it more interesting? It's fun learning new stories, right?

I suppose that would be a good reason.

I was thinking of a children's story from home called "The Warlock's Hairy Heart". It's rather dark, which I think is suitable for a contest like this. But it also has a very good lesson to it.

There was a warlock who doesn't want to fall in love, so he use the Dark Arts to remove his heart and seal it away. However, as time goes on, he begins to hear people whispering behind his back about how he is unmarried. So, he goes out to meet someone who he thinks will make everyone envious of his marriage. He finds her, and then tries to get her to marry him. She wants to see proof of his heart, and he shows her where he has it sealed away. She begs him to put his heart back into his body so they can fall in love, and he decides to do it. But, because his heart at this point has been outside his body for so long, it has become very beast-like. And, when he puts it back into his chest, he becomes a beast. Desperate for a human heart, he reacts on beastly instinct to cut hers out of her instead, and then cuts his own heart out to replace it with hers. But, because he was a beast, he doesn't do it properly this time, and they both die.

[Oh, wow. That is dark. He knows she warned him, but he's still caught off guard.]

Yeah, I don't think we have that one in Canada. That's a children's story...?

[Then again, he guesses there are plenty of fairy tales out there that are just as vicious. Maybe it's just because he's not familiar with this one.]

[Luna nodded.] The most recent version is included in a book of short stories called "Tales of Beedle the Bard". It's quite popular among wizarding children in England.

[Yeah. Wizarding world kids were a bit... strange, especially to muggles.]

Oh! Well, that explains it. We don't have wizards in my world, so I guess it makes sense we wouldn't have those stories.

It does sound very scary. I'm sure it'll be great for the contest.

You don't? Hm. I've heard that from a few people here so far. It's interesting how different all of our worlds can be.

But, thank you! I think I am going to go with that for the contest.

Nope. It's pretty normal, mostly.

What Pokémon were you thinking of using?

I don't have many, yet, so I might even have to catch a few to fulfill it. I was thinking of using something with a lot of fur to represent the corrupted heart. Maybe like a Swinub. And then the lovely woman would be something a bit more traditional in regards to being a "pretty" Pokemon, perhaps a Lopunny or a Lilligant. I still haven't figured out what to use for the selfish Warlock.

What about something that can take on more than one shape? Like Morpeko, or a Ditto. I bet it would be pretty easy for something like that to transform in a way that clearly represents corruption.

Oh, those would definitely be interesting. I'll have to see if I can find the story to be more exact about it... but that is a very good idea. I just realized that we're only allowed to have two Pokémon with us, so that limits what I can use as well. Perhaps the hairy heart could also be a prop.

A prop would work. It might actually make things easier if you can only use two Pokémon. Sometimes less is more, you know?

Yes, that does sound like a good alternative. And that would make it so I can focus having Pokémon to represent the Wizard in the story, and the lady he chose as his bride-to-be.

Oh, excellent! I hear there will be dancing. Would like to do a dance with me once we're there? [Luna definitely liked to dance.]

Maybe? I'm not really much of a dancer usually...

Oh, that's fine. No one says you have to be a good dancer. The point is to just have fun.

[Luna certainly had her own style for dancing, so she wasn't going to comment on anyone else's.]

[And before this place he was performing on stage in front of... admittedly very small groups of people, few of which really paid the band that much attention. Still, he's aware it's a little silly to be able to do that now and still feel nervous about dancing.]

One song never hurt anyone, right?
