You know, I was under the impression that I'd taught my Pokémon to keep their word whenever possible. Yet it seems I was wrong, and now I've to deal with this thankfully small pile of eggs.

[The pile in question is, by any regular standards, enormous, but the years have long twisted Cecil's sense of scale when it comes to such matters. Still, Rosie the Clefable does look almost worried as she pats each egg in turn, and Cecil himself looks like he's battling a headache.]

If any of the available species catch your eye, feel free to buy an egg or two. Considering the circumstances and our... need to revise our agreement, I cannot promise they'll be available during our usual summer clutch, or even in the foreseeable future.

[Rosie turns away from the pile just long enough to shrug at the camera. Their trainer is a softy, there's no way he won't let them have their regular summer fun!]

They know plenty of ways they can surprise me without risking their yearly breeding privileges. How much stronger than usual would those children have to be, to be worth the potential consequences?

Ah, but is it a surprise if it's something you'd expect them to do?

Oh, I'd never expect them to spontaneously clean the whole house! That would make it an even more impressive surprise, if you ask me.

There are worlds out there that can be shaped by willpower, you know. If I wish for it strongly enough, there's always a chance it'll happen.

Perhaps you could convince them to do it as a Christmas gift.

Or as a birthday gift, if I want to spare myself the joys of spring cleaning. Unless I ask for the house for Christmas, and the Gym for my birthday...?

That would certainly be one way to potentially cover both.

Yet even that much is wishful thinking, I fear. They are willing to take part in the Gym's regular maintenance, certainly, but clearing the garden's pathways is not nearly as tedious as dusting.

Have you considered getting a species that likes to clean and tidy things? Minccino are rather known for that, for example.

It may not seem so, but the majority are generally well-behaved. ...The things is, their breeding sprees involve long arguments about the respective advantages offered by potential fathers, which mother had the first pick last time, or other similar subjects. For a few days, they are not at their best, even when the deed is done.

That sounds rather exhausting. Ours generally just pair off however they feel at the moment.

Ah, mine have breeding politics and objectives. The aim is to create the strongest child possible, after all, and what form that goal takes varies from year to year.

Of course, certain pairs tend to gravitate towards each other. And there's Mortblossom and Mindflayer, who are exclusively monogamous.

It sounds almost like yours treat it as some kind of competition, really.

It is... yet not. They may argue about partners and such, but it's also something of a collaborative effort. They cheer each other on when they learn new moves that are easily transmitted.

Well, they sound quite enthusiastic about it, whatever else. Are you quite certain you wouldn't be better suited as a breeder?

My status as a trainer is the only barrier between them and clutches of eggs large enough to crush all of Celadon. Besides, that lovely shopping discount helps finance their new TM moves, and there's no chance they'd be willing to give those up.

Oh, I don't know, perhaps they would be willing to forgo a few TMs in favor of being able to pass down the rarer abilities?

I doubt it. There are too few of those in my team, though the rare abilities they do have are rather powerful.

Well, I suppose you do have the option of simply asking Ryner to come help if any of yours have some need to do so anyway, in any case.

Let's... not mention that around them. Otherwise, they'll never leave him in peace.

Oh, I don't know. He could stand to get out more, you know.

Have you considered hiking? Traveling in general? It'd be better for his health than being at my Pokémon's beck and call.
