5th Recipe [Video, Goldenrod City]
[It's evident from Jane's appearance as the video starts that she's been a busy young lady. Her hair is mussed, her cheeks are pink, and she's resting outside on a bench nearby what looks to be a small cafe in Goldenrod - there's counters and stools up against the windows for people to sit, but other than that it's pastries and hot drinks and tight quarters. Most noticeable of all, though, is the bright and brilliant smile Jane is wearing.]
Does anyone ever get up very early in Goldenrod for any particular reason? I...I just got a new job, and I had to be awake for my first shift, and just...walking through the city in the morning, it's so serene and beautiful, and with the cold air coming in everything is so crisp and fresh! And then at this place, [She moves the camera to take a look at the cafe] I'm so busy I can't even pause to think, but it's a good kind of busy! Maybe it's a little strange to be happy about such a simple job, but I never really had to work like this at home, and it's...nice. It's especially nice.
[It's probably a bit hard to explain how nice it is to get to do something normal for a change, to wake up and know that you don't have to fight for your life or struggle to survive in the wilderness with immense amounts of teenage drama on top. Perhaps, Jane thinks, this is what it feels like to become an adult.]
Ah, but, um...I should ask a question so this doesn't seem too weird to say out of the blue, huh? Let's see...oh! I've got it - what's a job you've enjoyed doing most while you've been here? And to compare, what's a job you've enjoyed the least? I'd love to hear about any and all shenanigans!

It's lovely! Considering how bustling and noisy it can get during the day, this is such an interesting difference. I grew up in the suburbs, so things were usually quiet and never this crowded, so to see a city this way is definitely different.

It's a single room cottage, and what I believe is termed a 'fixer upper'.

To answer your question, I've only had one job since coming here, but I enjoy it very much. I am working at the Goldenrod Flower Shop!

Goodness, well...be sure to bundle up, alright? Invest in a good coat at least, even if it's expensive - it seems that our bags can hold quite a lot, so you can store it when you don't need it, and it should last you a long while.
[The flower shop...] I don't think I've been by it yet. What's it like?
no subject
[He smiles.] The flower shop is wonderful! I am familiar with some of the species, but others are entirely new to me! I'm very fond of the Gracidea - it is a six-petaled pink flower, not native to the Johto region, but it grows well here.

Oh, that sounds lovely! I personally like to see the little blooms on berry trees, but I don't pick them - where else would the berries come from?
no subject
True, true. You should stop by the shop sometime - the owner enjoys handing out watering cans and berries to enthusiasts. She's very generous.

As for the job thing... I've only ever actually had one, and that was here in Goldenrod! At the department store. It was such a drag because those uniforms are so out of style.
[A pause.] It was bad because...of the uniforms?

I've mostly been working at the Marts, which isn't exciting but is kind of an interesting experience, I'd say. It's easier than politics, at the very least.
But you were a politician, Mister Tarrlok? I never would've thought.
...and I'm not sure if I should take that as a positive thing or a sign I'm off my game.
[Eh, besides, everyone's pretty much brought down to zero when they show up here anyway]
That's good, though! I am in total support of experiencing new things. Or, in another case, experiencing things that you haven't gotten to experience in a very long time.
But no, I certainly agree. This is basically a vacation, after all, and isn't that what vacations are for?

[He chuckles almost sheepishly.]
But that might be because it's where I set up shop with the Training Center.
[Which is semi-relevant, he supposes.]
So I guess you could say that's the job I've enjoyed doing, since I've been running the place for... geez. Wanna say it's been close to four years, but I've honestly lost track. Sure beats the more menial work around towns, though, and battling the same rookie trainers along the routes. Being your own boss is kinda stressful, but at least there's more wiggle room.

Plus, Fuchsia city's home to movie and TV studios. Where Johto's more cultural, I'd say Kanto's more... modern, maybe? You still got your museums and libraries, mountains and forests, but on the whole, it's more developed.
[He pauses, giving her time to take this all in. He knows it's a lot, after all.]
As for the TC, our main focus is battling. We have Pokémon of different types people can train against, arenas modeled after different terrain-- so, say you want to prepare for open-water battles. Well, there's a pool for that. We try to encourage fitness as well as actual leveling, and for trainers on the go, we offer private training sessions and rental services.
[And with that, he rus his neck.]
...Geez, I feel like one of those telemarketers now.
no subject
[Listening very closely...she chuckles kindly when Riku finishes.] Oh, not at all! I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't curious. All of that sounds very clever, actually - especially the terrain battles. I don't know why I never thought of something like that myself.
no subject
[He gives a slow shrug, his smile crooked.]
Honestly, I think working in different terrain and weather conditions is huge. You never know when you'll be pulled aside for a battle, and fighting in a dark cave's gonna be a huge step away from battling out in the open.
