Catch-all: Collegiate Gym!

Who: Sion, Ryner, and all visitors to the Collegiate Gym
Where: The Collegiate Gym, on the outskirts of Ecruteak City
When: throughout September
Summary: Catch-all log for the Collegiate Gym's leg of the stamp rally!
Rating: Probably G unless someone brings their own baggage. The gym leaders will hopefully leave theirs at home.
Log:

Welcome to the Collegiate Gym! If you've ever been here before, you might notice something somewhat different in the atrium: in two straight lines down the sides of the room are a series of computer monitors, kind of reminiscent of a middle school computer lab.

The stamp challenge is simple. You sit down in front of one of the monitors in the atrium and are presented with a series of short Pokemon battle scenarios in simple PC game form, which you are supposed to win within a certain number of turns.

(Graphically, think sort of like an 8-bit sprite version of Pokemon Stadium. The user interface is... simple, completely functional and obvious enough to navigate, but it's fairly evident that whoever programmed it is not exactly skilled in UX design. It's a pretty robust engine otherwise, though.)

Scenarios are semi-randomized from a large pool, so it's unlikely that two people will get the same exact scenario. You might be given a full team to work with, or just one or two Pokemon, and similarly you might fight a small team or a large one. The winning strategy might be as simple as choosing the right attacks to get type advantage, or as involved as using a single Lycanroc to defeat a team of six Shedinjas in two moves, or anything in between. Every scenario does have at least one solution, though.

The good news for anyone who isn't great at strategy is, you only have to win three out of five scenarios to pass, and even then, you can try again from the beginning as many times as you need to. (You might just be asked to return to the back of the line first if there are too many people who've come in at once.) The gym leaders are also around and willing to give hints if you're really stumped.

If the stamp rally challenge doesn't interest you, of course, there's plenty more to do. The classrooms have been opened up and have various seminars happening (there's a schedule by the entrance), the library is open to anyone who wants to find something to read or just take a nap, and Ryner and Sion are available for challenges. There are also plenty of refreshments provided, including but not limited to cookies baked by a certain Yamask.

Isabela had been in Ecruteak for quite some time when she heard of the Stamp Rally that she decides to check out the first Aurora League gym that is closest to her. As soon as she arrives at the gym, she finds two lines of monitors on either side of the room.

She has never used a computer before in her life, but she would love to give it a shot. If she were to just got one stamp in this Rally, but let’s be real, she really wants to get all of them, Isabela should take on Collegiate Gym’s rally head on fairly well.

“Oh yes please. I haven’t seen or used computers before so I would like to get some how to use this program if I ever stumble upon a problem at any moment,” she happily tells as she gets to take a set on one of the machines.

Carmen soon pops out of her Pokéball to be a support for her Trainer, her rose hands shaking around with a confidant air like they’re pop-poms. Isabela soon begins to start her machine and it then opens up to the first scenario she must face: a full team of six (Delphox, Swanna, Roserade (which she knows as Carmen’s kind’s evolution), Togekiss, Umbreon, and Heracross) taking on a team of 6 Shedinjas.

The main goal is to get the right type moves to defeat the Shedinjas with these very Pokémon. She hasn’t own a bug type Pokémon just yet but she is hoping that her first scenario won’t end in disaster.

“Um hello? Is there anyone in here?” Harry pokes his head from the door as soon as he arrives back in Jotho, around a few days after he had to cut his Kanto journey short for the Aurora League Stamp Rally.

He didn’t need to go so far to Ecruteak City as soon as he returned in the Magnet Train: he just took the warp pad at Goldenrod City to get there. There is also a good chance that he is also carrying some eggs from Cecil’s Lunar Gym too, though he had been meaning to drop off them at the Femeblemtroika compound in Olivine City eventually. Then Gardenia and Cho soon escape his watch and they begin to run around inside the Gym, much to Harry’s own grief as he scrambles to wrangle them from making so much noises.

Apologies in advance if his team is causing anyone some grief. Harry is taking all the blame for Gardenia and Cho being in a mischievous mode today.

“Oh um, hi. I’m really sorry if two of my Pokémon are behaving really mischievously, especially with my Ducklett: she is often the main prankster of the group,” Harry speaks to Ryner as he wrangles Cho and Gardenia before they can cause a ton of trouble.

“Either way, I’m here for the Stamp Rally and I am looking to get a stamp in this gym. Is there anything I need to know about this stamp challenge?”
