018 - Starytube Stream

[First of all, there's a link posted on the Pokegear network from one Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd. As in, literally posted, you might have to copy paste it into the address bar? He's doing his best, bless him.]

[And those who follow the link will find a stream shortly starting up on Staryutube, for a user called DABrat! Gremlin the Rattata is set up on, like.... so many little cushions on what looks like a tried and true gamer's chair, squeaking happily as Dimitri gingerly makes sure his little Rattata-sized headset is fit on perfectly.]

[Did you know that they make headphones just for Rattata? Now you do!]

[With that done with, Gremlin excitedly waves both of his tiny little rat hands up at the camera, and Dimitri smiles as well.]

Hello again, everyone. Gremlin has decided to make this month's series of streams very special. Since it is October, he has thought that he would do a horror game playthrough every day. All donations he gets from these streams will go right to charity!

[Gremlin gestures ENTHUSIASTICALLY.]

[....Behind both Dimitri and Gremlin, in the neon-lit gloom from the rest of the room, a shape begins to form, with the faint red glow of eyes towering there in the shadows.]

For those who managed to send their donations in during specified times, they will even get to put forth what horror game that they would like to see Gremlin play. He has managed to amass a bit of a collection just for this month, and we are also not afraid to buy things if they are readily available.

[The mysterious shadowy figure slowly fades away. Dimitri and Gremlin remain none the wiser.]

Chat, you know that you must behave as is proper while we finish setting up, and then we will be taking the first suggestions!

Basically how this will work is that you can assume that - so long as they donated! - your character can suggest whatever horror game they like for Gremlin to play, and that can be threaded out to varying degrees! Alternatively, they can just comment and chill as Gremlin plays games with Dimitri there to offer commentary, and make sure his rat is doing well.

This will basically happen for long hours during all of October, so you can have your character comment whenever. This also ensures anyone can suggest whatever game and be guaranteed Gremlin will play it.

Suggested games can be completely made up, or Poke-parodies of actual horror games. If you're having trouble thinking of them, I have a whole spreadsheet of various horror games that you can riff off of.

Well, then it will suit him wonderfully! Although perhaps that means less chatter.

[Some don't seem to mind that much on account of Gremlin's chatter being... the kind of thing that doesn't necessarily mix up words, but still. They'll have to pay attention! Dimitri carefully pets the back of one ear.]

We really do appreciate the support. Gremlin has thought long and hard on which charity the proceeds will go to!

That’s pretty brilliant. Giving back is always a noble effort with the platform, I bet that the charity will be happy to have the necessary funds to run their efforts and enjoy the exposure a lot.

Gremlin sure picked the right one, I must admit.

Oh, we agree, but I suppose that is obvious. It will be rather exciting, to see how it all amounts to when things are said and done.

Ah - but it seems as though we have the game ready, isn't that right, Gremlin?

[There's just excited clapping, and then keyboard and touchpad smacking as Gremline gets thing set up.]

I could say the same thing, Dimitri. I can’t wait to see how much will the streams get for charity and what kind of stuff Gremlin gets to look into the games themselves.

Oh nice. It looks like he is ready to dive into the game right now.

Ha ha - yes, he is very quick when it comes to things such as this. Setting up such games and having them be viewable in the most ideal way.

[He thinks this is ideal? Dimitri isn't... really into this scene.]

Oh, this music is rather nice, actually...

[Gremlin, in the meanwhile, as the game starts, is already trying to see what things he can pick up. A lot of it is trash. Don't mind as he goes hogwild in the throw mechanics.]

(Alright, it looks like Gremlin is about to play Midnight Grove now and Harry is pretty excited to see the Rattata playing it. And no worries, Harry doesn’t seem to mind him playing with the throwing mechanic. It’s very amusing to watch it happening.)

Oh yeah, the music does sound really nice. This does capture the atmosphere of the game very well.

Indeed. I do not think I have heard this kind of music before, actually.

[Mostly he's surrendered to the constant background noise of Kanto and Johto to drown out his own thoughts, and sometimes whatever pops up on the television. But despite being around for a good few years, Dimitri still... is not a huge technology person.]

[He's really only here because his rat is.]

[His rat, who has paused for a moment because whistling! He stops throwing trash and things, head cocked to the side, before he keeps moving up along.]

I had thought this was to do with music, but I suppose not for the tutorial...?

Yep, it does take you into the game pretty easily. Oh right, the tutorial portion. Nearly forgot about it for a moment.

(All the sudden Little Aragog pokes his head out from Harry’s hooded jacket and he happily crawls up to Harry’s left shoulder since he is still a right Joltik.

Happy baby spider noises are in play while Harry is trying to watch the livestream.)

Oh hey, Little Aragog. What are you trying to do with hiding inside my jacket? Aren’t you being so sneaky today. I’m currently watching a video game livestream right now, perhaps you’ll like watching it as well.

Ha, I have heard many games have them. Well, I suppose it does help build up the atmosphere...?

[Dimitri has no idea, he doesn't really game that much? But while Gremlin inspects every little bit of trash, he gives a polite wave to the tiny Joltik.]

Hello, Aragog. Do you like games as well?

Yeah, I am starting to realise how important game tutorials are in navigating oneself in the games and building up the atmosphere quite a lot. I might want to pay attention to them if I ever do consider trying to play a video game someday.

(Little Aragog happily ‘chirps’ as he nods his tiny head in agreement. Yes yes, he loves to see gaming livestreams and maybe try to play games too. He doesn’t get to watch them often and he is a tiny electric spider but he wants to get into gaming so badly.)

I will take your word on it. It is only occasionally that I see such things when Gremlin normally games. Rarely is it when he is just starting, since I am mainly there to help with minor things before I go off to do my own business.

[It's a busy life, taking care of so many Pokemon, and then his own goals.]

Hopefully you will get a chance to play things like this soon, little Aragog. If you would like, I could have Gremlin look into -

[And that's when Gremlin finally reaches his destination at the end of the little alley, opening a door only to be suddenly confronted with a darkly clad figure in the most bizarre mask that is suddenly right in his face.]

[Excuses Rat and Human both as they startle.]

Yeah, it does seem to vary from game to game from what I have looked into the online game store. Maybe I should check on other games as well and see if they have tutorials added into them.

(Little Aragog chirps again, nodding his head back and forth, while he and Harry continue on to watch the livestream. And that’s when Gremlin encounters the shadowy cloaked and masked figure and he even gets some scares himself while Little Aragog doesn’t seem to get too scared from seeing the figure.

How is it that this little electric baby spider hasn’t been scared off by the arrival of the masked figure?!?)

[Some tiny baby spiders are just built tougher than humans, what can be said?]

[Still, with that little jumpscare done with, the game seems to cut straight through... and look at that scene change! Gremlin claps excitedly at all the different things to mess with, and the presence of two characters clearly talking. Dimitri cocks his head to the side.]

Oh, I see... A different character? This makes much more sense for what I was expecting.

Phew. That was a close one. I thought for a moment it might have been someone else. Or maybe something else.

(Besides, who wouldn’t say no to a good jump scare? Harry will admit that this game does a really good job in surprising players when they least expect it. Little Aragog continues to chirp as he sees Gremlin messing around with the different stuff at his leisure.)

It did quite a good job at setting the mood, didn't it? To let one know that something is afoot, even as things move to something lighter - oh! There is more of that fun music, again.

[Gremlin certainly seems to like it, already doing an admirable job of playing at DJ and bouncing around a little bit.]

[And throwing so many paper balls.]

[Truly this is what all the trash throwing in the alleyway was leading up to.]

Oh yes. It certainly does a great job in setting up the mood of a scene very well and to let players know that something or someone could be right around the corner.

(Little Aragog chirps again, this time dancing to the music to his heart’s content. As well as cheering for every paper ball being thrown around too.)

Yeah, I was also thinking about that as well. People seem to change their taste in stuff sometimes over time.

Frankly, it is curious to me. My own homeland seemed to cling to traditional songs and classics very strongly... and even here, music plays an odd role indeed to the lives of its inhabitants, local or otherwise.

[But hey, frankly, Dimitri prefers this sort of neverending noise compared to what else he's dealt with in his life.]

[It seems as though there's hardly any time to enjoy the music when there's a caller, well, calling in! And - oh boy, it's a Jenny! Reporting a terrible and drastic crime!]

I guess that music does manage to get into people’s hearts and minds regardless of where we are from and genres and forms they take after. The music of my world seems to be quite catchy with tons of various genres to choose from even if I don’t get the chance to listen to music that often at home.

(Ho boy. There is a crime been reported around the corner as Little Aragog wonders what or who caused it in the first place. Harry raises his eyebrows as well out of curiosity when he sees the Jenny appearing on screen. He has some concerns about Jennies since Dimitri’s post on the incident with Byleth being mistaken for someone else months ago.)

Whoa! There is a Jenny looking into the scene of the crime. I wonder if she have the same competence as the Jennies here.

I hope not. But that would certainly explain some things.

[Don't mind Dimitri's flat tone of voice. He definitely doesn't have problems with authority or anything, except in all the ways he does.]

[But there are now... oh! That's sure some dialogue options, and Dimitri leans in to read them. Gremlin already has opinions, however.]

(Little Aragog just merely makes some inaudible (to most people) baby spiders as soon as the dialogue choices for the player to choose from appear. The spider has never seen anything like this before so his eyes widen out of curiosity.)

Whoa, is Gremlin going to do something very naughty in the dialogue choices right now?

I would hope not, but... ultimately, it is his video game stream, and he is an adult rat who can make his own... video game choices.

[Okay it sounds a little silly when he says it like that, but still]

That is a good point. I can’t argue with that either, so we shall see what he will pick from the dialogue choices. Should make for an entertaining video game stream.
