victory_road | Event: The Reveal Glass

Across the Pokémon world, characters may have spotted a falling star last night. Or at least, one would think that's what it was: a naturally occurring phenomenon, rather than a legendary artifact. Specifically, the Reveal Glass fell to earth during a fight among a group of legendaries started by the return of a long-lost family member. But it's probably best to leave them to handle all that themselves, while your characters deal with other consequences.

The Reveal Glass shattered upon impact, and the shards scattered throughout Kanto, Johto, and the Sevii Islands… And made their way into the hearts of your characters. But bleeding isn't the concern here. Instead, the impact will hit when a character first looks into any reflective service. An eerie feeling hits them as they're transported to the Mirror Dimension.

While this realm can be many different things for different characters, one thing is always true: It is a place of honesty, where true selves are revealed. Those struck by a shard will find themselves facing truths they are no longer able to hide, and now must accept. Fortunately enough, even those who haven't been struck will be able to enter the Mirror Dimension during this event via a reflective surface to offer help. By the end of the 29th, things will return to normal. Characters will be back in the usual Pokémon world and their hearts will be rid of the shards, but time is strange in the Mirror Dimension, and the experience may feel like it goes on far longer than a day. Or, maybe that's just the emotional exhaustion.

[It feels deeply unfair to Boober that he gets to be his normal fraggle self again, but he's alone in a place that can't seem to decide what it is. That would intimidate him at the best of times, but when he's only half a meter tall? The moment he sees a theater, he darts in, if only because it feels like he has a better chance of being able to find his bearings inside.

He can be here for now, he decides, it's fine enough. He doesn't intend on doing much looking around, but then he hears the guitar, and the combination of music and curiosity gets the better of him.]

Oh, excuse me.

[What he finds isn't unexpected, in the sense that it is someone playing a guitar. But the mask is strange odd and eerie.]

Are you going to perform? No one is on stage right now, if you're... waiting.

[It doesn't feel like what's going on. But then, he isn't sure what it does feel like.]

[It doesn't give many clues about the Mirror Dimension as a whole, but at least it's safe despite the how dark and gloomy the place is. The only thing lurking in the shadows is Ryan, and with how startled he is by the sudden presence of someone else he's also probably harmless.

Now that he's lived in the Pokémon world for over a year, non-human creatures are nothing new, but he wasn't expecting one to ask him a question all of a sudden. It's an easy adjustment though, and the shock fades to something quieter.]

Oh, uh. Sorry. I...didn't think anyone was actually here.

[With a heavy sigh, Ryan pushes himself to his feet. He seems bone tired, like everything takes a herculean amount of effort.]

I should get the show started...

[Even though the theater is empty, he drags himself out to center stage and stares out over the seats, guitar in hand. Then he reaches up and pulls the mask down over his face....

...and his entire demeanor changes!

His body language perks up and the expression on his mask is capable of moving enough that it seems like it's really his face now - the mouth and eyes move with each word while still staying close to model. With renewed energy that feels off for some reason, he spins to face the only real audience he has - Boober. His guitar is at the ready, and his mask's grin is wide and wild.]

Soooooooooooo, got any requests? I like to open the floor to start out with, y'know! Why make people wait for an encore to hear what they actually want, right?

[After all, it's not like he's playing for himself right now. He's playing for an audience he's unfamiliar with, one he wants to like him or at least think he's capable at what he does.]

[Oh wow this is not a kind of energy Boober is good with, not at all. But what hits him as far stranger is how it wasn't the kind of energy just a moment ago, and he throws his hands out in front of him in an almost reflexive protest.]

No! What is happeni-- Stop that! [For how small a body it comes from, the voice carries a whole lot of baffled exasperation, but then it softens - a little - to more of a patient scolding.] I liked how it sounded before just fine. That's why I came back here.

Besides, you don't have to perform if it's just for me, anyway. I'm not exactly an audience.

[The mask can't actually stop smiling, but Ryan does tilt his head in a way that shows he's a little baffled himself by this reaction. Huh? What? Why all this?]

But...you're here! And I'm supposed to perform for everybody! Sooooo, that makes you my audience tonight, right?

[That makes the most sense to him.]

Plus I could totally play what I was playing before, if you wanna hear that! [He shrugs! Up to you, little stranger!] It's not mine anyway, just a little something I was practicing with for kicks!

No, but... [Boober sputters a moment.] It's not just that!

You seemed so sad before. [He scoffs.] I know most people don't like gloom like I do, but I mean... All this? It's too much, especially so fast.

Pfft! No one wants to see sad on stage! It would just bum everyone out and bring them all down!

[The "everyone" here is kind of unclear - there's still literally no one here but Ryan and Boober.]

Besides, who cares how fast it happens if it gets the job done, right? So I was a little mopey for a sec, it happens~! That's aaaaall in the past now! I'm totally fine!

Wh- I... What do you even mean, it gets the job done? I know moping happens, I do it all the time! But why wouldn't you just... be mopey? You know, sometimes, people overlook that getting bummed out has its place!

[They seem to be not just on different pages, but in two different books in two entirely different libraries.]

What, so people can feel bad for me? Or get totally worried for nothing? Naaaah!

[He gestures with his hand, performatively waving the entire idea of it off.]

I don't wanna be like that around other people! So, I'm not! It's soooo not that big a deal!

There's no such thing as worrying over nothing.

[Boober scoffs, shaking his head.]

Besides, if you're upset, what's wrong with people feeling bad about it? They'd probably want to help.
