save our snorunts event log

Who: Everyone!
When: January 2-26
Where: Practically everywhere. Maybe not the volcano on Cinnabar Island.
What: Save those Snorunts!
OOC Info: here!

The hills are alive with the sound of… sneezing?

It’s almost a week into January, and trainers may have started to get nervous about the lack of Snorunts. Whether you’re excited to see them, or just want the metaphorical bomb to drop and be over with - the wait is finally done. Snorunts have started to make their way into town.

But instead of fortunes, what they have to give right now is coughs, bleary eyes, and sad little flops sideways into the snow. They’re not alone, either: every once in a while you’ll see an equally sick Glalie or Froslass. (Be careful - a sneezing Glalie is basically a wrecking ball waiting to happen, prone to launching itself backward! And if you’ve been struck by an odd spurt of bad luck, maybe you’ll be right in the way when it does…)

In cities across Johto and Kanto, and in field camps in between, Nurse Joys are scrambling to treat the miserable Ice Pokemon. But they’re direly in need of more helping hands. Will you pitch in?

Yes, the trainers were being very slow! How dare they when food was involved!

Ulaz was tired as well. It wasn't like his Glaceon had done much carrying of Pokemon.

"Seems they have their own priorities."

"Food seems to be a good motivator for Pokémon in general, I think."

Keith shrugged a bit.

Because they were all set up for the triage and work being done in the area, there was a large, all-weather, all-purpose tent, similar to something used as a commissary tent by the military, set up for supplying all the volunteers with food in thanks for their help. Keith pushed through the door and noted the crowd.

There were a lot of people helping. He took a deep breath, remembering how much he'd hated eating at the Garrison's cafeteria for this same reason, but resigned himself to it. It was too cold to eat outside, and he didn't have a hotel or anything to go back to at this exact moment.

Little Red was quite happy to escort everyone towards the food service at the other end, though. He made a few noises and bounced in that direction, looking back a few times to make sure everyone was following.

Ulaz followed Keith into the tent, also surveying the crowd. He was wary of crowds as a general nature. It was something that being a Blade had taught him, especially a Blade undercover in the Galra military. Being in a crowd was a good way to be watched.

However, he pushed that down. There was no such threat here. It was just normal since it had been burned into him. The main issue he had now was that he was tall, even as a human, and it made him stand out more.

Primdes followed after Little Red, clearly unconcerned that Primdes was an ice Pokemon and Little Red was a fire type.

"Yes, yes, we are coming."

Little Red was used to ice types and knew how to be careful around them. Allura had several when she'd been there, and Keith had kept as many as had wanted to stay with him after she was gone. Most notably, the Alolan Ninetales he had, Coressa, had been Allura's starting companion on arrival, and she and Little Red had "found" a few eggs while "frolicking" together a while back. She was carefully packed away in her ball at the moment because Keith hadn't wanted to risk her getting whatever this illness was in case it was related to just ice types.

Once the crew found a table, Little Red had claimed a spot, and then looked expectantly at Keith. The humans had opposable thumbs, after all. They had to get the food!

Well, half-human... or human in this reality... or whatever... as a Pokémon, Red wasn't really concerned.

"Right..." Keith reached over and gave the Torracat a quick rub on the top of his head. "You keep the table, we'll get the food."

That was good that Little Red knew. Primdes was used to being around a collection of different types of Pokemon including fire types so he probably wouldn't suspect a thing if Little Red weren't so aware of what he was doing.

Primdes didn't climb into a chair, but bounced expectantly next to the chair that Ulaz was taking. Okay, food time!

Ulaz nodded. "You can keep watch as well, Primdes."

The Glaceon trilled and then put his feet up on the chair almost as if he wanted to sit. It was like he was a person!

Ulaz would then head back in the direction of the food.

The selections were fairly simple, but Keith wasn't expecting anything fancy for something like this. It was for volunteers helping during an emergency, it certainly was not a gourmet restaurant. But that was fine. Keith wasn't going to complain.

He picked a few things that looked interesting and potentially tasty. Everything was, of course, Pokémon themed, and some stuff looked cute as people attempted to make it nicer, but most of it was pretty plain. He loaded up the tray, sticking with warm foods, a soup, and a hot beverage.

He thanked the food volunteers, and then headed back to the table, waiting long enough to walk with Ulaz.

Ulaz collected what he wanted as well. He was used to eating fairly simply, even here. The cutesy theme of some of the items did make him raise an eyebrow, but to each their own. He would still take some of the times to try. His plate ended up being very similar to what Keith had, a lot of hot foods.

After thanking the volunteers, he headed over to where Keith was waiting so they could walk back over.

"Interesting that they have made the food for those assisting being themed."

Not that he didn't appreciate it, just that it was not something he would have ever thought that he would see.

Keith glanced up from his food for a moment and then shrugged.

"I think some of the people volunteering are from the local restaurant. Maybe they donated stuff," he offered up.

"Yes, that is likely the case. Still, I was not expecting it."

Then again, food was very much a necessity and not a luxury still. He was enjoying it more here, but it was hard to get rid of that thought.

"Something tells me this isn't exactly a normal thing in modern Galra life," Keith said. Honestly, he got the sense it was a very militaristic society in more recent... centuries... That people didn't really do humanitarian stuff like this. It was something he knew that he wanted to try helping to change, to give them something other than fighting to live for.

"You would be correct. Military style rations are pretty much the norm. Even among civilians, they were much willing to help others or donate. A shame. It didn't use to be like that."

He picked up his fork.

"Was it similar on Earth?"
