save our snorunts event log
Who: Everyone!
When: January 2-26
Where: Practically everywhere. Maybe not the volcano on Cinnabar Island.
What: Save those Snorunts!
OOC Info: here!
The hills are alive with the sound of… sneezing?
It’s almost a week into January, and trainers may have started to get nervous about the lack of Snorunts. Whether you’re excited to see them, or just want the metaphorical bomb to drop and be over with - the wait is finally done. Snorunts have started to make their way into town.
But instead of fortunes, what they have to give right now is coughs, bleary eyes, and sad little flops sideways into the snow. They’re not alone, either: every once in a while you’ll see an equally sick Glalie or Froslass. (Be careful - a sneezing Glalie is basically a wrecking ball waiting to happen, prone to launching itself backward! And if you’ve been struck by an odd spurt of bad luck, maybe you’ll be right in the way when it does…)
In cities across Johto and Kanto, and in field camps in between, Nurse Joys are scrambling to treat the miserable Ice Pokemon. But they’re direly in need of more helping hands. Will you pitch in?

Min-Gi Park | OTA
January 7th or so
[Cecil doesn't look up as he answers Min-Gi, but in his defense he's trying very hard not to jab a needle through his freezing fingers. His Conkeldurr, who does look up from his own work, suddenly yelps in pain, but forces himself to continue after a nod of acknowledgement towards Beat and the others.]

Maybe around the 15th?
But it happens easily enough. Despite at least attempting to mask when all their pokemon are together, it was inevitable that some of them would get infected. The biggest culprits are Ry and Min-un, who can barely keep six inches apart sometimes, let alone six feet. If one got sick, the other was going to be infected instantly.
And of course, who knows how long Min-un carried it before he started showing symptoms? It's the one bad thing about having their house be free range for their pokemon more often than not. Despite their best efforts to prevent it, masking and quarantining the ones who caught it...eventually Boo is sneezing and sniffling too.
Ryan leans his head out into the hall and calls out, hoping Min-Gi hasn't left yet.]
Min! Miiiiiin! Boo's not doing too hot! Or, uh. Is doing too hot...?
[Since she's an ice type? Is that how it works? ...Wait, that wasn't the point.]
I think she's got it, Min!

Radley | OTA
Since he's a good chef, he's been making Pokemon cough drops as well as food for the human helpers. He and his Pokemon have been delivering to the Pokemon Centers and sometimes the field camps they can reach. They can be found anywhere from Goldenrod all the way back to Cherrygrove and New Bark, but more often Goldenrod and Ecruteak. They are pretty tired as the month goes on, and the short bursts of various luck are usually not fun.
There was the time Evie tried to open a bag of flour and instead it poofed everywhere, all over the floor and all the Pokemon in the kitchen, requiring Radley to stop and give all the affected Pokemon a big bath.
Slipping and sliding across the ice when they had to cross a frozen pond wasn't terribly fun either.
And let's not forget the time it was difficult to procure ingredients while shopping because there wasn't enough to go around and some of the other shoppers did not want to give up their claims to the items.
At least there are the occasional times when luck is fairly decent, when batches come out perfect and they're able to deliver them without any hiccups. Very occasional.
no subject
However, today Jotaro's on his own, driving his Aurorus-drawn sled towards New Bark Town. He's about halfway there when he spots poor Radley slipping on a frozen pond. Before Jotaro can even direct his Pokemon to either ignore the man or move to help, Jotaro's Aurorus instinctively walks over to on ice. Despite his size, Kosugi walks without slipping over to Radley and nuzzles him with his face. Jotaro frowns.]
Oy... you alright?

He's not often over this way, so he figures a brief stop at Radley's might be nice both to refuel and catch up, but when he arrives the front is empty. Judging from all the noise and the cloud of white drifting in from the kitchen, however, there's definitely at least some Pokémon back there.
Min has enough kitchen experience to identify the cloud as flour, but as to what else might be happening... that he's less sure of.
"Hello?"
He adjusts the sleepy, silver-coloured Eevee he's been carrying in his arms as he steps further into the café, though he doesn't intrude on whatever's happening out back yet.

Normally she would have very little trouble in getting between places with her Ponyta Antonio as her ride Pokémon even in the winter time but horse hooves and ice don’t really go together so she will just walk on foot as she carries a sledge carrying the boxes of medical supplies behind her back.
Unfortunately things begin to look tough for her as soon as she steps into the ice. She has a hard time trying not to slip and fall as she tries to keep the boxes and the sledge from slipping all over the ice. This Colombian clearly has zero experience in crossing icy ponds before and it does show.)

Harry Potter | OTA
For a while, he notices that the fortune telling Snorunts who gave him some trouble in the past have been gone missing and, as much as he is wary towards them especially with the previous year messing his gym battle plans, their lack of presence deeply concerns him too as the new year rolled in. Then out of the blue, he stumbles upon a small group of Snorunts unable to move without sneezing and coughing every 5 seconds.
This left Harry in an odd situation: should he run away from the Snorunts or should he risk getting some bad luck by helping them out? Not wanting to leave the vulnerable in a tight spot, he tries to scramble to scoop up some of them in his arms and run to the nearest Pokémon Center or clinic so they can get immediate medical help.
And even then, there is just one him and he clearly needs a lot of help in taking the Snorunts to a Nurse Joy quickly. Hence why he brought out Molly the Alolan Raichu, Godric the Hisuian Arcanine and Dobby the Furret to assist him with the task.
If you see a very panicky Harry running towards you for help while Godric, Molly, and Dobby, feel free to approach him and ease his team’s burdens in carrying the Snorunts. Just watch out for the sneezing from the Snorunts.)

Isabela Madrigal | OTA
She looks on in concern as she witnesses the Snorunts being unable to function well while down with the illness. She proceeds to pull out whatever medicine she has in her bag at this time and tries to administer them to the ill Ice Pokémon. Although she could sure use some assistance to take them to the city’s Pokémon Center right about now.
“Oh how am I going to bring you all to the Center? I really need a lot of help to take you to Nurse Joy as soon as possible.”
no subject
At least the Corviknight was polite enough to leave a generous space so as to - hopefully - not be threatening.
Ulaz frowned as he slid down from Corviknight and moved closer.
"I was not aware there were this many of them out here." He gave Isabela a nod in greeting. "Perhaps we can try to come up with a way to transport them."

Vinegar Doppio | OTA
[One must assume Doppio was trying to help. Well, okay, one mustn't assume such a thing. With his luck, he could have ended up in this position in a complete freak accident. But it might be easiest to assume that he was trying to offer help to a lone Glalie just moments ago.
Unfortunately, the Glalie sneezed with impressive strength, and now Doppio's pinned under its weight.]
Hhh... Hnnnghh...!
[Help. He can't even reach his Pokéballs. HELP.
Cristina, his loyal Morpeko, has run off. He's not completely sure if she's looking for help or for food.]
2. Ecruteak Pokémon Center & Goldenrod City, throughout January
[Good news! None of his ribs are broken, this time. Somewhat tedious news: one way or another, he's been roped into sewing Glalie-sized masks - perhaps to ensure nobody else ends up in the same situation as him? By the third week of this, Doppio has a half-dozen tiny bandaids applied on each hand.
When he sets out, it's usually to deliver medicine to the field camps between Goldenrod and Ecruteak. And if some of it vanishes before reaching its destination... Oh, he's just offering it to sick Pokémon he finds along the way. That's what he says, and there is no reason to believe he'd lie about something like that - let alone to think he's skimming off the top for Team Rocket.]
2. Goldenrod, later January
But it is still something he notices.]
Goldenrod's really struggling, huh?
[Min-Gi of all people should probably be able to guess the true reason, but he seems genuine rather than suspicious.]

III | OTA
[III was contemplating taking on the Pewter City gym, but that got sidetracked by the Snorunt situation. As such, he's volunteered to run supplies to the Cerulean City area, Kallinikos the Vulpix at his side.]
Thank goodness for the warps... [They're a little limited compared to the warping ability his crest used to provide him back home, but they still beat having to hike through Mt. Moon with these supplies!] Let's find where this field camp is, it's supposed to be somewhere outside town...
2. On a Mission
[But of course, III is also a Rocket. He's not going to send Team Rocket a sick Snorunt - that seems like asking for trouble from the Snorunts - but he is working on an in depth report about the illness to hand in later. He's generally pretty subtle about it, waiting until he's not in public to take notes, but on occasion he may take advantage of a quiet moment to sit down in the corner of a Pokemon Center to take a few quick notes.
Do you try to talk to him? Nose into his business? (The notes are vague enough that it's not obvious what their true purpose is.)]
1!
uphill, through the snow, both wayson foot to Cerulean. While dragging a sled the Nurse Joys loaned out. It's a good thing that it didn't start snowing again until this morning, and an extra good thing that they didn't have a Mt. Moon in the way, and got to drop off their load of supplies at a field camp halfway between cities. Otherwise they probably wouldn't have made it.][Instead of supplies, the sled now contains two Froslass and a Snorunt. Loop is doggedly pulling it up toward the city, honestly a bit too tired to immediately pay attention to their surroundings or process what III is saying. But the Pokemon are listening!]
[The two Froslass give III a baleful stare: they see your stash of supplies. Are you here to cram more disgusting medicine into them? Absolutely not. They're too wilted on the sled to actually move, though.]
[The Snorunt, meanwhile, seems to be doing better. While it's sneezing at a rate of at least twice a minute, it manages to have the energy to flop off the sled and trundle curiously in the direction of Kallinikos.]
[Loop, feeling the weight of the sled decrease, groans. They're starting to say,] Hey, no, we're nearly there, [- in a long-suffering tone (is this not the first time?) as they turn around. But then they see III, blink, and actually process him this time. Including the supplies! Same destination?]
[Speaking of Pokemon: Loop has an entire four with them, aside from the ones on the sled! A Shuppet and Metang are floating nearby, and a Buizel and Cyndaquil are perched on top of the Metang's flat head. The Cyndaquil is asleep; the Buizel is making concerned chirps in the Snorunt's direction. The otter nearly overbalances as he leans to stare after the Ice Pokemon - he has to get caught and re-stabilized by the Metang.]

Keith | OTA
Keith had no idea what this illness was, but he was concerned enough about his own team catching it that he tried to keep them separate in the hopes of them not catching it. And, as much as he was often frustrated and given poor luck by these tiny shivering traffic cones, he still felt kind of bad that they were... well, sick. He'd sigh each time he found one, regardless of which evolution it was, and try to get it to come back to a PokéCenter with him.
"Can you uh... help me with this?" He'd found a particularly heavy Glalie, and it wasn't floating at the moment, which made it difficult to move. He felt bad just rolling it along the route to the next town.
Watch out. It might sneeze.
no subject
So it was Primdes that came upon Keith and the Glalie moments before Ulaz, turning back and calling to him, but stay away from Glalie... just in case.
"Of course. Let's see if we can carry him to the Pokemon Center."

Romelle | OTA
She did take a few medicine runs during that time, keeping it wrapped up and insulated to keep warm. She didn't have a fire type or anything that could help with that, but she did her best! She might lose a few vials along the way, though. Hey, she tried.
She had a better time providing ice. Her Lapras had a few ice moves, so she was doing that, and also bringing in small items for a few Froslass to play with and freeze up when they had the energy.
"For those Glalie... Has anyone considered wrapping them up in padding for when they sneeze? Maybe then it won't hurt as much when they hit someone."
no subject
At the question, he looked up from his work. Gigi the Espurr was currently "helping" by holding down the stack of completed masks - aka sleeping on them.
"Huh... I hadn't thought to try that. Less damage and fewer injuries that way. They do seem to almost launch themselves."

Luna Lovegood | OTA
For now, they had her at the check-in, helping get people and Pokémon settled in and on the list for treatment.
"And what brings you in today? Pokémon or human?"
Ulaz | OTA
In the meantime, Irkut the Meowstic had decided this was the perfect opportunity to teach his daughter, still an Espurr, how to use her psychic powers. The two of them were staying low enough that Froslass couldn't see them - watching Irkut practically crawling was a bit amusing - and then the Espurr would launch something in the air with her powers to give the Froslass a distraction and something to freeze. If they missed, it got thrown again. If they hit it, off they went to the next one.
She was very excited, but also staying quiet since the Froslass were much bigger than her and she didn't want to actually attract their attention...
But Ulaz would watch this as he worked, making sure the pair were staying out of trouble.

Quatre Winner | OTA
For Quatre, this ended up being sewing masks for Glalies mostly. They were... very big masks. Of course when he saw the Glalies, he completely understood why. His Pokemon kept him company, mainly Gigi the Espurr and Aker the Shinx. The others didn't like the cold as much and wanted to avoid anything to do with this.
He would also spend part of the time out looking for ice for the Snorunts with Aker. This... this he really didn't like, keeping his jacket bundled as tightly around him as he could... on top of the many other layers he was already wearing and his gloves. He was desert boy, not one who enjoyed the cold, but he was trying.
Scar | OTA | Outskirts of Ecruteak, Mt Mortar side
Snorunt is small.
Scar is not small.
An innocent drift of snow the sweet triangle stumbled through without incident has turned out to be a sink hole. Whatever lies beneath, there is not enough solid mass to hold Scar's weight, and he is sunken to his shoulders, utterly trapped. The Snorunt, meanwhile, has about-faced to investigate now that Scar is no longer big and scary. Insult upon injury, as it leans in to sniff his snow-flecked hair, it sneezes.
What a way to go out. At least he's wearing his jacket.
no subject
Then the first sniffling little Snorunt had appeared and beelined directly towards him. Which is when Envy, not really wanting to deal with it attaching to his ankles, had made his first mistake: pulling a loose balloon off of the darts game and tossing it in the Snorunt's direction with an absent direction to go play with it 'over there'. It had seemed like a great distraction! The little thing was clearly enamored with it and was leaving him alone!
The second mistake: leaving the bag of un-inflated ones out where it could be seen by said Snorunt.
The third and most fatal: not paying attention to whether or not he was being followed until he was already in the woods, with THREE Snorunt sneezing at his ankles and holding up the balloon bag towards him with stubby arms in clear demand for him to MAKE MORE BALLOON.
He had refused. It has now been two hours and they are still following him and he has NO idea how he could possibly have gotten so lost on the trail.
Surely not an instantly karmic bad luck cloud. Then he sees someone who's managed to have much worse luck than him. Dugman, apparently. He stops. He squints. He's trying to figure out exactly what situation he's looking at here.
"Hey! Are you alive?"
This is exactly the voice Scar would like to hear coming up on his left, right? There's already a note of a cackle coming into Envy's voice at the end there, only waiting on confirmation that Scar is still alive and intact.
