Now that's more like it. What a fearsome beast you've become.

[Athena isn't normally one to show off her Pokemon like this, so this video is probably a bit of a surprise. She's warmed up a lot to the creatures, absolutely, and she's gotten pretty deep into the training and battling thing. But she's never felt the need to take to the network just to do something simple like this.

Until now.

Towering over the short gladiator is her newly-evolved Haxorus. It's trying to press its head into Athena's palm, and boy is she glad she's wearing leather gloves that are thick enough to protect against those bladed tusks of hers. It's a little odd to watch, because Athena isn't a very affectionate person - hell, some people might think she's not even capable of affection - so seeing her petting the bladed dragon like one would a regular dog or cat might be a little... new.[

However, it's a bit suspicious that you're sporting these colors now.

[Being a shiny, Typhon's usual color hue is now a rusty black and red. For those who know Athena, the colors of Atlas being worn proudly by one of her pokemon is pretty ironic. And... god, she kind of hates it, but Typhon has been a good companion to her, so she can deal with it. It's good for intimidation, at least.

She gives one more firm pat to the dragon's snout before she finally turns to the camera, reaching out to take it from Hermes the Hawlucha that had been holding it. She looks... a bit less surly than usual, which is a world of difference from the last two times she took to the network on her own.]

Those eggs that appeared out of nowhere some time ago... has it been common, for the pokemon inside to match their trainers on some level?

That's a good question, really. I've certainly seen plenty of instances where that seems to be the case, but in others, it's a somewhat more random or arbitrary choice.

So it's left to the whims of whoever or whatever it is that sends us these eggs in the first place.

[Meaning she shouldn't anticipate such good fortune next time she receives one.]

But as for that, I've no idea. There's never been any indication of where they may have come from.

... You're telling me that out of all the people here who have received eggs, none of them have seen them delivered? That can't be right.

[She refuses to believe everybody in this land could be that completely unobservant.]

Aside from some of us recently receiving eggs from Blanche for our assistance in that trouble in Goldenrod this October, that's precisely the case. The eggs simply are suddenly there.

... That's bizarre.

[The egg thing may be seemingly harmless, but the fact that something can just... sneak up on all of them like that isn't harmless in Athena's eyes. It just means possible danger, no matter the gift-giver's seemingly harmless intent.]

The eggs... they appeared after the incident with the ghosts. And you say that those of us helping one of the teams fighting off those morons received them too... so every time something bizarre happens, we receive an egg?

[It's not even the egg that she's fixating on now. It's just the fact that if there's something, human or pokemon, that can sneak up on them all like this... she wants to get to the bottom of it.]

Not every time, no. But they do seem to appear on occasion.

[This is. Not very helpful at all, damn.]

Are eggs the only things that mysteriously appear in this manner?

Usually. A few times small items have also appeared on the Christmas holiday here, but that hasn't always been consistent.

Small items? Like supplies?

[That doesn't seem like too big of a deal...]

Not necessarily. I've been the recipient of a number of shiny eggs from...whatever being watches over us. It seems a bit random.

[Lust turns her 'gear to show a shiny Houndoom and a shiny Minccino.]

I don't think you could find more disalike Pokemon.

[... Okay, part of her is definitely listening, but another part of Athena is more interested in the fact that this woman is contacting her. Not that she's ever interacted with her, but she's heard of her, and so she's sort of... well. Glowering isn't quite the right word, but Lust will probably definitely get some sort of judging vibe off of her right now.]

Strange. Do they have any similarities to yourself? Or what you've been looking for in a companion?

[Coloring aside, she can't deny that Typhon was pretty much exactly what she was looking for in her search for more companions. Maybe whatever it is in charge of distributing these eggs - that space llama, maybe? - somehow knows about that.]

To me? No. My starter fulfilled those needs. But...they do remind me of people who were important to me. Though in Madeleine's case, it may simply be the circumstances of my receiving her. But Amoz....

[Lust strokes the Houndoom's face, her expression difficult to read. She knows who this woman is, she's seen more than enough of her. One of Timothy's people.]

He looks after me the same way as someone used to.

[Athena's never been subtle with how she watches people, so she's not surprised at the level look the woman is giving her. Good, she's able to pick up on something at least.]

So he was given to you specifically to protect you?

[That's... somewhat reassuring. Not for herself, no. She doesn't need anything other than her own abilities to protect herself. But it's good to know that whichever being it is that distributes these eggs has some sense of compassion. If she ever gets sent back to Pandora, you can bet your ass that Athena would want something left behind in her place to look after Janey and Angel, with Jack still lurking about.]

Perhaps. He was a gifted egg, he hatched into a creature that looks out for me. He reminds me of my deceased husband. It may be coincidence, it may be intended.

[Lust rests her chin on her hand and fixes the screen with a mild expression.]

In that vein, you're welcome to simply ask me whatever you'd like to ask, as you clearly want to ascertain my suitability in regards to your friend.

[May as well get it over with, really.]

[... Well okay then, that kind of. Threw her off.]

I'm familiar with that look. You hardly have to engage me in idle small talk to determine what sort of person I am.

And god knows I've already been checked out by half the rest of the Honorable Man's people.

[Normally, Athena would be totally thrown off with just how easily she was called out by this complete stranger, but... okay. She's kind of curious.]

That's certainly an interesting name you call him.

[Dodging the topic? Athena? Nah, absolutely not.]

He understands what I mean by it. I won't call him by the name that was forced on him.

[Her voice may not have had much of an edge before, but it does now. Jack's always been a sensitive subject for her, and in the aftermath of Tim's torture, it's become a trigger almost as bad as Atlas is to her now.]

... It's a fitting name for him.

I thought so.

He approves, and that's honestly my only concern.

I don't know how much he's told you of our adventures, but it's quite fitting. Even moreso considering the rest of the people we were working with.

[It could just be a trick, but it almost sounds like Athena's voice softens just a bit. But when she speaks next, it's gone.]

So you care for him quite a bit, then.

I know the life he led before he came here. I know a great deal about him. And he in turn about me.

That's our business. But he's the only man I've...warmed to, since I lost my husband.

When mine hatched, the shining animal that came out was just like me, just with fewer eyes and more teeth!

[That doesn't really sound too different from the things she deals with on Pandora, but here, not so much. So... color her curious.]

[He comes trundling back with something hairy and snarling in his arms. It's green and black, and somehow faintly sparkly. It's also in the process of tearing his sleeve off. He does not appear concerned about this, and beams his small, wolfy grin at her as he situates himself back in front of the camera.]}

This is Mad! She's my daughter.

[Athena doesn't seem fazed at all as she comes face-to-screen with that bizarre beast. Honestly? That looks like something that would make its home on Pandora, so hey, it's almost like a reminder of home!

... There is one weird thing about this, though.]

Your... daughter.

[Yeah, that's what Athena finds most unusual about all of this.]

Yes.

I'm very proud of her.
