1st Meal

Video
[The video starts with a shot of Diana's face, she's clearly holding the camera out with one hand.]

Aaaand, that should do it. Recording, right? Of course. I might not have used a phone in a year but it's not that hard to figure out.

[She tosses her hair and now the young girl looking rather unimpressed up into the camera, on her shoulder sits a Murkrow.]

So, I know everyone was saying these things are for fighting each other and stuff, but I didn't realize that just trying to take a walk to a park was gonna be this big of a problem. I'm lucky mine seem to like me otherwise-

[Suddenly a black shape jumps across the frame.]

Seriously, again? What even is this thing supposed to be?

[The camera cuts out for several minutes before Diana's back looking even more unimpressed.]

So, this thing would just not leave us alone. Sass keeps fighting it but it won't go. I threw one of these things at it - [Diana holds up a PokeBall] - and it went in and junk but now it's back out and it won't calm down.

[She turns the device so we can get a view of a Salandit hissing and a Shinx growling, the two look ready to tear each others throats out.]

Do most of these things just hate each other?

Action; Route 35

[If you happen to be near the Goldenrod side of Route 35, Diana is caught in the midst of her Pokemon fighting over her. The Salandit is wrapped around her neck like a living scarf, glaring down at the angry little Shinx, who is baring its teeth and trying to jump up and bite at the lizard's tail. The Murkrow has moved its perch to Diana's head and is squawking its displeasure.

Diana has given up and has sat herself on the fence, trying to casually look through her device for help on how to tape Pokemon's mouths shut.]

Most Pokémon learn to get along, but there's always the odd rivalry. And the not-so-friendly competitions over their trainer's affection. And, sometimes, the pure yet unexplainable hatred.

[And the occasional tempestuous love affair, but he's hoping that's not the case here.]

Maybe his relationship with them will improve once they mature and evolve. It's happened before.

[He doesn't sound too convinced, though.]

Yes, though luckily it's usually due to their individual personalities, rather than some species-wide mutual hatred. Not that it helps all that much, when you try to catch a Pokémon that will get along with the fifty you already train.

[Cecil takes a few moments to do a quick mental count.]

...Seventy-nine, actually. Out of a potential hundred and eight including both the current party and PC.

Such large teams are accidentally acquired over time, not planned, usually. But raising a handful of Pokémon and limiting your catches is also a valid option.

Enough to pay for the upkeep of a castle, and then some. Luckily, the work here pays well enough.

That's practical if you're on a budget, but not so much if you wish to challenge every Gym and try battling their elite teams. Finding a balance between the size you can handle and complete type coverage can be difficult.

As far as first collections go, living creatures would not be the best choice. You are right to want to limit your team size.
