1st Run // Welcome to the World of Pokemon!

[ The video comes on to show a brightly grinning newcomer! He's already on Route 29, having bolted from New Bark the moment he had his feet under him and his Pokemon given to him. ]

Hey world! I just got here and I got this super cool dog! Look at him! He's on his back legs and run like a champ, it's amazing! Show 'em what ya got Danny! [ The camera focuses on a Riolu, bright-eyed and eager. Danny the Riolu playfully flexed it's not-impressive arms, before turning and using his Quick Attack to show off his speed. Zip-zip! But then Ash quickly told Danny to stop and turned the camera again; this time it lands on a Sentret nearby. ]

Holy shit, who's that Pokemon? I'm gonna try and catch it. Here, hold this- [ Wait. The camera's being handed to the Riolu. Who turns it on himself and winks, before turning it back to Ash, who is trying to sneak up on the Sentret. Before lunging for it, trying to physically grab it. The Sentret rightly squeaks and struggles with him, before getting a good Scratch on his arm and bolting off. Someone skipped the tutorial on how to catch Pokemon... ]

The little balls? They're meant to go in them? [ He pulled one out of his bag and opened it, checking it out and frowning a little. ] They can fit in here...?

Well I mean, the way I was trying it, I wasn't making friendly with them. But it ain't like...ya know. Dogfighting, right? I don't want Danny getting hurt. Or the other Pokemon I'm trying to catch either.

[ Him roughhousing with it to try and hold it down was one thing. Actually fighting it and trying to hurt it was another. ]

I'm not sure how the balls work, but they do fit in them.

[She settles a bit, keying into his reluctance. Alright, he's...definitely a bit more likable than she initially thought.]

It's something that's part of this world. You don't have to participate in it if you don't want to. I've made friends with the ones I've caught, instead of fighting them.

[ He sat crossed legged, playing attention when she mentioned making friends with them instead of fighting. A bit like a student in assembly. ]

Really? How'd you do that? I mean, wild animals aren't all that keen on people normally. Even if I had just walked up to that last one, I think he would've just sniffed my hand and ran off.

I think it just depends. If one of them wants to make a new friend, they'll respond to your attempts.

[She literally stole her Eevee and her Budew chose to stalk her through a park. It's kind of difficult to explain.]

[ Ash reflected on that, as Danny peered in from the corner of the screen. That is to say, a pair of blue ears and a pair of big eyes appeared from the corner, peering at Anthy curiously. ]

I ain't exactly Snow White though. Back home there wasn't anything like these guys...there were like, ordinary pet animals and then there were things like unicorns which you can't treat like animals at all, cos they're way more than that and would kick your ass for it.

I guess I got a lot of learning to do then! And you're gonna help and not just watch me make an arse of myself, right? [ He directs the question to Danny, who winks and grins to him! Ash smiled brightly to Anthy. ]

Nice to meet ya by the way. My name's Ash! Is there anything else I oughta know right off the bat?

Oh, there were lots of ordinary animals back home, too. I hadn't gotten the chance to meet a unicorn, though. [But she won't doubt they might exist somewhere beyond Ohtori Academy.] I can try to help. I don't know much about how this place works myself, but I've made a lot of new little friends already. My name is Anthy.

[At his last question, she pauses to seriously consider it. What sort of things would a normal trainer need to know...?]

...I've read that you aren't supposed to eat the berries you find growing on the road. They'll make you sick.

I haven't seen one either. Just heard about them. [ His favourite story as a kid had been the Last Unicorn. He'd love to see one someday but they're very elusive and noble and all that shit. ]

[ He smiled brightly to her ] Well I won't say no to any help, Anthy. [ Don't eat the berries, got it! ] I only just landed and I guess I got a bit carried away. Didn't think to check these things before I went running. [ He's a bit sheepish, realising just how hasty he'd been. Oops. He's always getting told he needed to think before he went off like...he just had done. ]

That's alright. It happens to a lot of people.

[Or, a lot of people here seem like the type to run headfirst into a situation without any forethought.]

I haven't been traveling a lot since I came to the city, though, so I don't know much about the roads here.

I haven't done much traveling outside my city back home either. But...the air is fresh, and it seems like money and borders aren't a thing here either. [ He leaned back, smiling as the wind picked up and grabbed at his hair. It was so new and different to smoggy London. And so free. ]

If you want, I'll send ya a message if I find something cool! Like...I don't know what you're into, but the Pokemon are something else. Oh man, imagine if there's a unicorn Pokemon! [ IMAGINE IF RAPIDASHS EXIST ]

Oh no, money is definitely a thing. But it's easy to get jobs, and you usually get a little money if you win a Pokemon battle with other trainers. You should be fine.

[You seem like a guy with enough energy to take on any job.]

I would like to see a unicorn Pokemon if you find one. Thank you!

[ Jobs, urgh. But at least it was easy to find work. He gave her a thumbs up. ]

You'll be the first person I tell! And I dunno, any other kind of Pokemon or things you wanna see? I think this thing can take pictures...

If you see any plant ones, I'd like to see those. There's only so many you can find in a city.

[Which is to say, almost none. Camping out in the National Park had been good for her, despite the cold. She should do that again soon.]

You got it! Well, I'll cya around Anthy. I gotta keep moving to make it to the next city...let's see- [ it's clear he's put her call in a corner of the gear's screen, switching over to the map. Yeah, he didn't check anything before rushing out the door and away from Not-Mum. ]

No, I'm a little further out. I'm in a city called Goldenrod.

It'll probably take me a while to get that far. Aw well. [ He shrugs, bringing the chat back to the focus of the screen. ] Either way, I'll be keeping an eye out for those grass types along the way.

They might not be out right away. It is very cold. But I did find one myself, would you like to see her?

[Do you want to see a tiny sentient rosebud]

Oh man, I'd love to! [ Please show him! He holds Danny in his lap, so the Riolu doesn't jump up and hog the screen. ]

[Hold on there, Ash - Anthy reaches for a Pokeball, calmly pressing the button to let a Budew emerge. It looks around a little at first, then notices the 'gear is on...and just full-on tilts its little body.]

This is Setina - my friend Setina.

Hey Setina! [ Wow, it's literally a little walking bud! He wasn't sure what he was expecting but it's definitely cute. Danny playfully copies her tilt. ]

Man, I wonder what they'll bloom into.

I'm not sure, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

Give me a ring when she does, I'd love to see it! Make sure you bloom really big, yeah? [ The second part he addresses to Setina, as if encouraging a kid to do something for their parent. ]

[The Budew beams, raising her head up as much as one can when your body is mostly a head. She'll be the best, you just wait and see!]
