--we are. I believe it's on now. Queenie could you please hold this--yes thank you.
[A happy little twill comes in response as an Audino is briefly in view before she turns the gear on her trainer. The young man looks a little ruffled or maybe that's just his natural state, Newt absently adjusting his jacket as he sits down on a log.]
Yes, hello. My name is Newt Scamander and I am relatively new to this place. Only been around for a, ah, few days now, I believe it's been.
[His smile is a touch awkward and maybe even a little shy. He's really not good at this sort of thing.
A sharp little chirp announces the presence of a Starly that hops into view on the log, one leg carefully folded up and it looks as though it's been wrapped up due to an injury. Newt's expression melts into a genuine smile as he gently scoops the little thing up, allowing Merlin to rest on his thigh.]
Right then. I've just finished reading through what there is in the Pokedex, a rather fascinating read so many creatures I haven't encountered before--
[He's in his element here.]
--and I was wondering if there was..well..more. To read, that is. A library perhaps? Anything that could help fill in the gaps that my Pokedex is lacking until I can fill the rest in myself.

While there are a few literary pieces you can get ahold of, I've found testimonies the most helpful so far. The people here will quite readily divulge their experiences with their own creatures.
video;
Yes I had considered that. I just tend to do my best work when I can read it or if I'm on my own in the field.
[In his lap, Merlin let's out a serious of rather huffy sounding chirps which draws Newt's attention and a light laugh.]
Yes, yes I know you are willing to help, my friend, and I do appreciate it.
[Resting a hand on the wild Starly's back, Newt finally focuses on Ivy herself.]
I..suppose it's safe to assume you are rather, em, fond of plant based creatures?
video;
[Ivy chuckles, leaning back to allow some of her smaller companions to climb across her lap; including a pair of Sunkern and Oddish; a Cerubi and a Roselia among others.]
Now, whatever you gave you that idea?
[She strokes the top of an Ivysaur's head, who's wearing the most contented look.]
I've always had an affinity for foliage, so I wasn't entirely surprised when it extended to plant based lifeforms upon my arrival.
video;
[Among other things.
Newt can't help but smile faintly, a shy quirk of lips as he watches how delighted all of companions seem to be.]
Just a bit of a hunch. [His gaze focuses on Tyler and he gives a curious hum.]<.small> That's an Ivysaur, is it not? And I believe that's a Cerubi..and Roselia? And then those small little ones are Sunkerns and an Oddish?
[Merlin chirps in greeting to the other Pokemon, fluffing up some.]
Interesting how this place seems to adapt to what it is we are interested in. I am apparently meant to be a breeder here which is a fair bit similar to what I did back home, I suppose.
video;
[The nursery of Grass types chime back at Merlin. Tyler rests her chin on Ivy's arm, a lazy vine rising up to wave at him.]
Oh, a fellow breeder? That was my assigned role also.

Almost all the biggest cities have a library. If you get a card, they will let you borrow anything you want. They are even fine with you handing in your books in another branch while you are travelling.
[Armin has greedily been making use of that.]
There's bookshops too, of course. Are you looking for any sort of books in particular?
Video;
[Then he can set himself up with a card. He was vaguely aware of that being a thing, giving his research into the Muggle world back home.]
A sort of..encyclopedia on various Pokemon species? The Pokedex offers quite a bit but I feel like there should be much more? If that makes sense. [There's such short entries about each Pokemon.] I'm rather interested in finding out everything I can about the creatures here and I suppose if there isn't a good book or series of books, that should be fixed.
[Can you see the gears in his head turning? Because they are. Writing a book about the creatures here would be no problem for him given his passions back home for magical creatures and the like.]
Video;
[Armin had marvelled at them, quite frankly. There had been encyclopedias meant for children with bright illustrations of pokemon and simple texts to thick, leather-bound looking books on those same pokemon, but this time aimed at adults, with neat writing and an almost impossible amount of information. Of course, those encyclopedias tended to come in about 26 thick books, so he had never actually borrowed one, but he had eagerly looked through them, especially whenever he had caught a new pokemon and wanted more information, wanted to know what that pokemon would evolve into, and if there was anything to be mindful of.]
Especially in the bigger libraries, you can find anything from books entirely dedicated to a single pokemon species, to encyclopedias about all the pokemon belonging to a particular type, to books about certain egg groups and how to breed them most effectively, to books about battle strategies. It feels like you could read your whole life here and still never run out of books.
[And that was just pokemon books! Those made up the majority here, but beyond that, there were still plenty of books on the arts, biology and the natural world (Armin's favourite), engineering, fiction-- honestly, everything.]
Video;
Newt even goes as far as to offer Armin a little less of a shy smile now.]
A challenge if I do say so myself. I look forward to spending time in the first library I find then. I am apparently suppose to be a breeder of sorts here which is perfectly fine with me but I would like to know more about each and every Pokemon there is before I go about traveling. Not that a lack of information ever stopped me before, I suppose, but it may be for the best if I prepare myself this time around.
[At least until he got too excited and just had to set out.
Merlin fluffs up and let's out a soft twill which causes Newt to chuckle.]
There are plenty of Pokemon that will probably need help as well, such as Merlin here did, so knowing proper care always helps.

How long did you work there?
[text]
I could spend all day in there, whenever my trainer can accompany me.
[text]
You're a Pokemon, aren't you?
May I ask what type? And how did you come to work in the library?

Can't say I've stopped by a library yet. I'm the kinda person who just gets stuck into things...it's caught me off more than once when my Pokemon have evolved when I had no idea they could or what to expect! Who's your other buddy? Queenie?
no subject
Ah..yes, Staraptor. I read a bit about them when I first encountered Merlin. Hopefully his injury won't hinder him evolving at all.
[His gaze shifts to the Lucario, giving the canine a curious look before a chirp from Merlin has him focusing again.]
I simply just want to know everything I can. I'm not overly concerned with collecting many Pokemon, not unless they want to travel with me, I suppose.
[It's up to them, though.]
Queenie is an Audino. [The camera is turned suddenly and a pink, cheery face comes into view as Queenie twills at Ash.]
no subject
Wait. Did you say Merlin? Legendary wizard, King Arthur era? [ Is this someone from his world or at least, some varient of the UK? Joker had come from London too and Newt had an English accent but he couldn't be sure yet. ]
no subject
[Queenie seems to giggle somewhat before the camera is back on Newt and it's not just his voice that's being heard.]
Yes, that's right. [Insert a curious look here.] You're familiar with Merlin? The history of the wizardry world?

*and as for that question...*
There's a rather large library in Viridian City in Kanto, and of course various places throughout both regions where you can purchase books. The Collegiate Gym south of Ecruteak City also has a small library of its own.
Video
[And what a name that was. He was rather intrigued by it.]
I suppose if I was going to purchase books I would need a place to keep them since my, ah, abilities don't seem to work here.
[Magic. Your magic does not work, Newt.]
Libraries may be the best route to take until I can figure something out. [And a pause as he thinks something over.] Kanto..that's the other region, yes? The one we could have taken a ferry to from New Bark Town?
Re: Video
*of course he mentions magic as the example, it's kind of a big deal back in his own world, after all*
And yes, it is, though Ecruteak is in Johto, if you wanted to head that way.
Video
[A running theme here.]
I intend to travel all over the place if I have the chance but I will definitely attempt to prioritize places with proper libraries.

[Folding his arms, he pauses briefly.]
But if that's not enough, you could always get out in the wild and take your own field note. I've found that the Pokedex isn't always accurate when it comes to behavior, since it covers the average instead of the individual.
no subject
[It's said thoughtfully, Newt letting out a quiet hum before it melts into a sheepish chuckle.]
I had already planned on doing just that. It was my profession back home and I see no reason why I can't do the same thing here.
no subject
[Like an active volcano. That was pretty awesome to explore, if potentially dangerous, heh. Still, he'll nod along.]
So, you some kinda zoologist, then? Honestly, you might be able to get better info, anyway. And some organized findings about the species could be helpful even for oldbies like me.
no subject
[He really didn't have interest in any of the other stuff. Sure the environments all the Pokemon lived in were important but the creatures themselves were his main priority.]
A Magizoologist, to be exact. Magical creatures and the like were my particular field of study.
