[The feeds snaps on to show a rather grizzled man with a beard and eyepatch patting a rather friendly dog Pokémon. A Poochyena to be precise. Boss grunted in amusement when the dog started to chew on his metallic arm. A toy? Well, the Pokémon thought the metal was rather interesting compared to his other normal limb.]

Hngh. A dog? Didn't think I'd end up having another one trailing after me.

[Boss picked up the empty Poke ball from his back pack and studied it. How could such a large animal fit in such a small device? It was all rather confusing right now. Also, what was that music playing? It sounded like a tape but no music he'd ever heard on his iDroid before.]

Hey! Watch the arm. [Snake scalded the energetic Pokémon when he bit down on one of Snake's prosthetic fingers. He was only a puppy but still. He needed those fingers.]

Going to call you DD. You're just like him. Good dog. [Snake patted Poochyena's head and made the dog sit. Good. At least he was learning. It wasn't the first time he'd had a dog follow him and try to lick his face. Snake focused back to the video feed and sighed.]

Anyone hear me? Can someone tell me what's going on and why these animals seem to fit inside tiny balls? [Yeah. He's going to go with that first of all.]

[At least there were horses. Good. Maybe if he found one he could name it D-Horse and ride it around the region. What? A man could dream.]

Sounds a bit like my dog from home. DD and I go into battle and he's there for me when I'm under attack. [Vice versa too. Snake protects his dog just as much as he's loyal to his master.]

I don't mind walking while DD takes a rest. So far he's more interested in my prosthetic arm.

[Cue the camera showing DD licking at the red metal curiously.]

[Mafuyu's glad that her Pokemon didn't see her arm as a chew toy, but he's pretty chill to let DD do whatever to his arm. She supposes it doesn't hurt since it's prosthetic, but it's still part of him so it's sorta weird.]

Does it come off?

[IS THAT A RUDE QUESTION. She isn't even aware of it, she just thinks it'd be cute for DD to carry the arm around like a stick /o\]

[Oh, that's pretty rude but Venom's fine with it. He's a pretty open guy.]

Yeah, I can remove it when I need to. When I'm in the shower usually.

[Since he doesn't want to metal to rust and all the joints to seize up.]

Ohh, that's useful. You two will get along well then.

[Like a lizard's tail, sometimes it's good to have detachable limbs when dealing with bitey Pokemon]

You'd better get a move on though, if you want to be able to use a shower. Mom's good on the food prep, but stingy about letting you back in the house. Next one isn't for miles away.

That's the idea.

[Since he didn't fancy spending his days with a Pokémon who wanted to tear his arm off every five seconds. DD was loyal and behaved properly. Just like his dog at home.]

Mom? [Was she talking about her own mom?]

Yeah, Mom! You know, the one that sent you out with a backpack and boxed lunch, it felt like being in elementary school again.

[Fond memories of elementary school, where there was little homework and tests and homemade lunches were still a thing. Also introduction to bullying and fighting and spiral into darkness, but she just wipes that away from her memories for the moment.]

Though... You're kinda old, aren't you? Older than me, so she couldn't have said to call her mom. Did you talk with her? What'd she say to you?

That woman? [Yes, Snake, that woman.]

Didn't really listen much to what she said. Thought I was dreaming. [Well, that's just great.]

I'm older than most people here. Don't know why they'd want an old man inside their world. It seems more a world for kids. [Little animals to collect.]

[That's true; he isn't exactly representative of the demographic Mafuyu expected to see around here either, but she feels it's hardly a world where children should be running around unattended either.]

Well, it can't be all kids, right? Otherwise the world won't work. It's like a school: you've got lots of students, but you need teachers too. Maybe you're here to do... I dunno, adult stuff. Whatever that is.

[How would she know; she's a teenager who's given zero thought to her own future.]

I'm a soldier.

[A tough old grizzled veteran known as Big Boss. He's been through so many battles that he's lost count. So much death and killing. Would she really want to know about that? No. It wasn't for a kid to hear.]

Before I was brought here I had a base on the ocean with hundreds of men under my command. My comrade, Kazuhira Miller, is also here with me.
