14th Recipe [Video, Route 34]
[It's out near the start of Route 34, Goldenrod's signature skyscrapers easy to pick out in the background, where Jane's face appears in the cold, cloudy morning. She's got a scarf wrapped up around her neck and chin, her winter coat is on, her cheeks are pink, and you'd expect her to look delighted, the picture of an excited young lady ready to meet the holidays dead on - but instead she looks a little bewildered.]
Um...so, about a month ago...exactly a month, actually? An egg I received hatched into a Zorua, and his name is Hughie, and he's a troublesome little scamp but a lovely dear, really. He means well. But, um, I've looked up things on his species, and they're supposed to be able to transform into things, right? And he's done so as other Pokemon, but lately we've been trying to perfect his human transformation - I thought it might be interesting for him to learn.
[And it'd also get him into more trouble, but hey, this is a potential extra set of hands Jane could have around, and he'd seemed so pleased with the prospect...]
But...um. Do Zorua always...like to look like their trainers?
[It's then that Jane shifts the 'gear to show...a little boy? He looks so much like her, down to the curl of his black hair, but it's definitely a little boy, smiling silently as Dinah looks him over and then points behind him. Blinking, he turns...and there's a fluffy Zorua tail sticking out from the seat of his pants.]
I mean - I'm flattered? But I'm either going to be asked if he's my little brother or if he's my son...does anyone else have anyone in Hughie's species who transforms into a person? Maybe he needs some more ideas...

[Hughie has now found his way into Jane's lap, still in his human form, and is peering into the camera. Hello, human!]
Okay, okay, yes - gracious, yes, I am talking about you, buster...

[ Albeit in extended metaphors and often tactfully avoiding things he just, couldn't talk about. At his side, Truth huddled into him very shyly, making a soft, unsure 'yip' at the sight of Hughie clambering into the frame. ]

I don't think I would be...so excited to learn about that sort of thing. It was trouble enough when August actually got a hold of his own Psychic power and started talking to me in my head...

I was aware of her potential when she joined me as a Natu. Psychic Pokemon...do not often approach me. But I am used to how she speaks.
Does August speak in an unusual way?

[Jane finds herself smiling fondly, thinking back on it as she scritches behind Hughie's ears.] So the first time he got something totally right, he was so excited, and suddenly I just hear, "Mom, Mom!" in my head, and I knew it was coming from him.

I was thinking, more in terms of speech patterns. Wisdom has a very...unique way of talking.

I'm not sure if she was still talking about the future by the time she was done, or if she was seeing places I might walk someday and describing them to me.

[ Wisdom's a strange bird, but one he was immensely fond of. Truth gets a little bolder and crawls to the front of his lap, giving a small, curious hello to Hughie. ]
Hi...I'm Truth. Who are you?

[Hughie yips in return.] 'M Hughie! How ya doin'?

[ Truth's getting a little bit of courage and his ears flip up, tilting his head to Hughie ]
They have ways, even if they do not speak with words, to show what they are thinking at times. I have found that most with my ghost types, but they all do it, regardless of supernatural abilities or not.

Mm, I agree. It's lovely to figure out how each Pokemon communicates. It's always pretty unique to their personalities as well as species.
no subject
Yes...it is. But I do not have many that match species to compare. The only ones I have are parent and child.

[Oh, well, that answers one question.]
Maybe if you met other people who have Pokemon of the same species as you, you could have them interact and see how they're different or similar.
