sleepallthewayhome: (Can I go now?)

1. Video

[There's a little girl in semi tattered clothing looking at the screen. She's not sure what's going on so she's settled for looking serious. No she's not scared at all, you're imaging things. It took her a while to figure out how this thing worked but she thinks she has a way to talk to people now. Just going to be calm and serious here.]

I'm looking for a spaceship. We must have crashed and I think some lady took me off it when I was asleep. Only she wouldn't tell me where she took my friends and then kicked me out of her house. So they might still be on the ship. Only, two of them are hurt really bad so I need to find them before anyone tries to take them out of their pods without Ripley there.

[There's a small pause.]

Also my name's Newt, and it's not my birthday. I think there's something wrong with that lady and the weird machine she gave me. It says I'm ten, but I'm not....not yet.

.....and there's a weird animal that won't stop following me. They don't seem mean, but I don't know what they want.

[At that a Growlithe appears behind her, looking at the screen. Newt has been adopted and she doesn't even know it yet.]

[Hold on.]

No animals at all? None? That's...that's horrible.

Animals are amazing creatures with so much to teach us! They have such a wide array of personalities, very much like humans, and the way they adapt to different environments and learn to survive even in the harshest of climates is fascinating. They help keep ecosystems thriving and are half the reason we humans were even able to survive and develop as a species ourselves! The idea of not having them around--of..of an entire generation, a population not having animals to interact with, helping to sustain an ecosystem..

[Excuse his rambling this is just a lot for him to try and process at the moment.]

[A brave child.]

They don't, no. At least not that I've ever heard of or witnessed. Most of the Pokemon I've encountered have simply wanted to travel with me for a time before taking their leave to explore elsewhere. It's always wise to be careful but your Pokemon companions will always do right by you.

[His expression softens.]

The Pokemon we start with here tend to be the ones that are most attached to us. My dear Queenie is very much my best friend in this world.

She is an Audino, a Pokemon in the Fairy classification.

They are, yes.

[And where he's from but he'll save that for another time.]

Though perhaps not in the way some books tend to describe them. Pokemon are divided up into different groups--fire types like your companion there, water types, grass, electric, fairy, ground, rock--it all depends on where they can be found and how they developed over time.

It is and there are a lot of Pokemon in each category. There are upwards of 800 in total, or something close to that.

I believe there are scientists in every region that take on the task.
