Who: Everyone and anyone!
What: The Eve's Garden Circus is open for spring! Come one, come all, and have the time of your life!
When: March 14 (and the rest of the week through the weekend, the circus doesn't close)
Where: Goldenrod

The Eve's Garden Circus has been a constant in Goldenrod for four years, now. It's brilliantly colored Big Top can be seen even from down the street, and it makes a fine marker for anyone flying in. Past its ticket booth guarded gates lie rows of game stalls, food alleys with heavenly smells, and various set ups from local shops or craftsman with everything from face painting to handmade goods available. While it's often been open, with the main shows playing on weekends, this month it's been especially ramping up to welcome spring.

So come in, enjoy some food, watch a show, and relax!

♤ Flight Service

Before the handy days of teleportation, the Circus offered its own Fly service to help people get to the Circus with a one-way ticket, or a return one to get right back to where they came from! Needless to say, these days, there's not much use for it.... However, some still prefer a more scenic view coming into Goldenrod, or they just want to get a nice view of the city before coming down for a little bit. Either way, various Flying types, courtesy of Falkner, are available for anyone, for a small fee.

♤ Gamer's Alley

It wouldn't be a circus if there weren't any games, would it...?

And boy, are there a bunch of them in this corner of the circus, all of them with their own various prizes to win from simple "magic" wanders to stuffed toys bigger then most people. There's something for everyone, from simple balloon popping to corkgun aiming to picking a floating toy Ducklett with a potential lucky number on the bottom. Heck, pick up a hammer and test your strength!

With everything being metaphorically and literally fun and games, feel free to try some a game or five! And only a couple of them are rigged. Just be careful not to cheat... Among Joker's personal 'troupe' of Pokemon are more than a few Psychic types, and they'll quietly alert stall owners if they think someone is cheating with either skill or Pokemon of their own.

Along with the usual games, however, there are also plenty of other things which are more of an experience than anything. A carousel with all sorts of Pokemon, known and Legendary alike, is available for a simple little ride for children, and people who like getting dizzy. There's also a funhouse of a maze available for people to wander and get lost through, with mirror mazes and moving floors galore.

♤ Circus Food

Now what could be called the best part of the circus.

For those who love the classics, don't worry. The scent of buttery popcorn fills the air, and one rarely needs to go far before stumbling onto someone selling cotton candy. Want a hot dog? There's plenty. Want to try something fried that should never be fried? Yeah, don't worry, there's those, too.

It's not all wildly unhealthy food, however. Welcoming in spring means that there's a lot of seasonal foods being sold as well, some more light than the heavier junk food that's about. Sakura mochi seems to be a pretty popular thing that's being sold at more than a few stalls... Sakura is in a lot of things, actually, from desserts to... lattes? There's also a lot of fresh strawberries from certain stalls, some dipped in delicious things like chocolate and others plain. There are also simple things such as chicken and corn on sticks, and other things.

There's something for everyone, so make sure to dig in and enjoy yourself!

♤ Shopping Stalls

For all that they're definitely the draw of the circus, delicious food and fun games aren't the only things it has to offer. Eve's Garden Circus likes to think of itself as a place where various small creators can promote themselves. Who knows- if you run a business, perhaps you've been invited to set up shop!

Either way, there are all sorts of things on sale to welcome in the new year. Some are artists, offering drawings of trainers and-or their Pokemon, or to paint their face with something. Others offer much more physical goods: blankets with various Pokemon patterns, homemade plushes of just about every Grass and Bug type you can imagine...

And did you know that flower crowns are in right now? Oh, sure, floral accessories seem to be a constant in general, whether those are simple earrings or pressed flowers made into light glass bowties. But it's really the flower crows that are a hit, and anyone venturing in will find plenty of people trying to sell them. Hey, it's spring. Why not give it a go?

♤ Showtime

What really makes a circus aren't the games, or the food, or anything else... but the show lying behind the flaps of the Big Top. There, people will get to see all sorts of dazzling things, from a certain daring young woman performing daredevil tricks on her steed, to a pair of 'siblings' doing an amazing trapeze act high up in the air. Should that small child be allowed around throwing knives? Don't worry about it.

It's not only humans who are taking part of the act, either! All of Joker's troupe have a part to play, whether that's the Charizard zooming high speed in the air, or a shiny Zoroark creating amazing illusions to take people's breath away.

Sit back, and enjoy the show. Plenty of applause is more than welcome when the finale hits, as various flowers float throughout the air.

...Just don't try to follow the performers, Pokemon or otherwise, through the backdoors to the staff area. They'll kick you out if they find you, which they will sooner than later. This is a place for rest, drinks and snacks and all, and it's employees only.

♤ Welcoming Spring!

To celebrate the warmer weather coming back... All trainers who enter with a grass type Pokemon in their team will get a discount! But that's not all... Those very same trainers will be given a shimmering rainbow ribbon, which their grass type Pokemon is encouraged to hold onto. (Only one per team, Ivy.) They, and any other trainers who come through, will be told of a game that's being played...

Capture the ribbons!

The name of the game is getting other ribbons from other people in the carnival, whether through cunning, battle, or just asking nicely, if that's your thing. Trade in your ribbons for fantastic prizes!

Not only that.... but Joker's own Pokemon are taking part in the festivities! For anyone who manages to nab one of the special ribbons for the ringleader's own, they'll find a special prize for those...

Here's the list of things that can be exchanged for the ribbons!

1 ribbon: A candy Pokeball
5 ribbons: A marble Bulbasaur succulent holder! Succulent included.
10 ribbons: A backpack shaped like a Bulbasaur's bulb! Very sturdy.
20 ribbons: A life-sized Serperior plush. Yes, the full ten feet. It is fortunately not 139 pounds, although the amount of sturdy stuffing in it sure must be impressive.

For those who capture one of Joker's pokemon and their ribbons, they get the honor of being allowed to choose two different TMs from the Department Store, and the Circus will happily foot the bill! But only two.

So go out, celebrate spring, and have fun!

[Well, look at that - it's that time of year again in Goldenrod. When Jane catches wind of the special attention the circus is having in opening for the season, well, she can't help but want to go! Might as well enjoy the day while it's nice, right? There are a few places Jane is likely to be found:

- The games are a pretty easy draw, mostly for her Pokemons' sake. Dinah especially seems eager to play, dragging a poor, maligned Dart along with her as she tries her hand at many games. She's...pretty bad at them, though, and Jane looks on a little worriedly as she continues to shell out money for the Audino to keep trying, but she just can't turn her down, not when she's so determined to win! Maybe, uh, help the poor thing out so Jane doesn't go broke?

- The shows are next, particularly when she knows Lust will be on. She wants to cheer her friend on during her act! But she stays for other things too, whistling and clapping and enjoying every spectacular feat!

- The food stalls are where you can find her later in the afternoon, having forgotten to grab something for lunch earlier...but there's so many choices! And also things with cherry blossoms in them? This is still a concept that, no matter how long she lives in Johto, she still can't wrap her head around. Please help her pick something to eat, she looks a little woozy from running around most of the day...

- Throughout the day, she'll also be frequenting the shopping stalls, checking out all the crafts and accessories...and likely buying a lot of flower crowns in different colors. What? She has to get one for each of her Pokemon, it's only fair! But is she treating herself? Maybe make sure the girl treats herself.

Jane can pretty much be found anywhere guests are allowed if you'd like to run into her someplace else, too!]

[If asked, Thida wouldn't lie, but neither would she elaborate - she's been sad since Jimmy left Johto. His house is empty without him and his Pokemon to help fill it, and she sort of understands why he was so keen on finding a roommate before. But...she can't hide in the house forever. Warmer weather is coming, albeit slowly, and it's not raining today. She should go out and have a good time, right? At least for a day.

So thank goodness the circus is open, because the circus is the best. Thida mostly sticks to the game stalls, knocking down milk bottles or shooting water guns into holes to win prizes. It takes some time, but as she warms up, passersby are likely to notice that she's got some wicked good aim. And hey, if a game has too few players for a round? You might just get dragged over to participate! It's alright - if you play just this once, she'll cover you. This is a fun day, she's good for it.

If she's not playing games, Thida's at the food stalls, sticking to the very simple "food on a stick" variety of snacks and treats. Poko is the one who's out with her here, happy to try all sorts of things his trainer shares with him. Though do be warned, if he get something that's particularly tasty, he may want to share it with you or your Pokemon, so please don't be scared of the friendly Tepig and the twintailed girl following behind him.

Other than that, Thida can be found most anywhere...with Majo in particular, one of the shimmery prize ribbons tied around her upper arm. That's right - Thida's playing the ribbon capture game, and Inklings are always in it to win it! Better watch your ribbons, guys!]

[Newt got a ride in and this is the first circus she's EVER SEEN. EVER. You can find her in many places

-Food stalls: either looking at all the food or eating cotton candy

-Games: Mostly watching people play for the moment, trying to figure out if she can try it.

-wandering around. Feel free to bump into her. She's also got a ribbon and she's playing to win. Being small and sneaky pays off right?]

With some of the rather delicious Sakura Mochi in hand, Cissnei can be found wandering through the various shopping stalls with several of her Pokemon in tow. Reno, her Ninetales, is sporting a rather lovely glass bowtie that Cissnei bought for him while Materia the Shiinotic has a flower crown carefully placed on his head-top. A rather long and lanky Dewott is traveling with them as well though he doesn't seem to have any real interest in any of the goods for sale--he just wants to find more to eat and by the looks of the red..something covering the fur around his mouth he's already been into something.

Heh...that looks like...anyway.

At some point you may run into her after she's ended up with a flower crown woven with Daylilies, her hair loosely braided now and resting over her shoulder as she continues wandering.

[B.]

Unbeknownst to Cissnei two more of her Pokemon are out and about, having managed to get themselves into her current traveling party and sneak out of their balls when she wasn't paying attention.

Madame Firemind the Vulpix and Bahamut the Mimikyu can be found exploring the circus, watching the shows for some time before wandering through the game stalls.

Approach with caution. Seriously.

[C.]

Wildcard! Hit me with any sort of starter you want! Cissnei will be spending an entire day at the Circus!

A - Food

Fair style food is terribly unhealthy, but Lust doesn't care. She loves it. And god knows she needs all of those carbohydrates, with performing. Which is why she can be found, when not flying through the air under the big top, parked at a table by the food stalls. Wearing an off the shoulder, cut off black T-shirt and wrap around dancer's skirt over her acrobat leotard, she has a veritable feast of the most fried, breaded, and buttered fare available. Fried sausages on a stick with cheese sauce, fried pickles, thick cut fries topped with chili and cheese, buttered roast corn, a waffle cup full of fried wings...

And of course, there are the deserts.

This...this can't all be for just one person, can it?

B - Games

As always, Lust likes to watch the games. She doesn't often play them herself, but she enjoys watching others try. And unlike traditional carnival style games, these aren't all unfairly rigged against the guests. Plenty of people walk away with prizes. It's pleasant, seeing how excited people get over such simple things.

Though she has to admit, the mirror maze is rather tempting...

C - Staff Area

The big spring debut always takes a great deal out of everyone. Lust is no exception. Between performances and enjoying the festivities, she's taking advantage of the staff only area to decompress and stay hydrated and take some time with her Pokemon. Guttle and Gilda, of course, are with her...but she's brought her littlest Espurr, as well.

She can be found on the floor, playing with her Espurr while the seals rest by her.

Heather -- OTA!

[personal profile] foolishwren 2018-03-19 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
SHOWTIME!

HEY, so it turns out Heather was NOT making up the whole thing where she ran away to join the circus.

Except the part about running away-- turns out that's not required.

A blaze of fire nearly ten yards long streams behind her and Carousel as the two race around the big-top's circumference, the Rapidash's hooves dramatically churning up the sawdust. An obstacle course of jumps and poles are set up around the ring, and they're being navigated with ease. But as Joker (or Invidia, wearing Joker's form) would say, THAT'S NOT ALL!

With her sequinned show outfit (white, gold, green, and scarlet-- with a glossy, matching feather sticking out of her hat) glinting in the fire's light, Heather is standing, vaulting, leaping, and even hanging off entirely or balancing on her hands as her steed gallops.

It's taken years of practice to get this comfortable on horseback-- and not just with the stunts (although of course there had been a good long period of dirt-eating leading up to that, too).

Riding a Rapidash means literally sitting in fire. Fire that doesn't burn you (assuming the Rapidash trusts you, anyway), but still fire, and enough of it to set off every primal lizard survival instinct in your entire brain even if you weren't once horribly disfigured in a raging inferno. And the faster you go, the more enveloped you are by the flames.

When she'd first come to Johto, she'd have sooner jumped off a cliff than even thought of doing this.

But here she is, swinging back upright in the saddle with a trail of sparks in her wake and a sunny wave for the audience. Not even a singe!

Admittedly, even now she'd never dream of getting this close to a flame that actually could burn. But progress is progress and you know what, she'll freakin' take it.

WELCOMING SPRING!

Between and after acts, Heather can be found breathlessly-- but cheerfully-- signing pictures and popcorn bags and generally making conversation with the showgoers hanging around the offstage areas.

Beside her, an unholy conglomeration of animal pieces sits rigidly, bright-eyed and alert to every single sound. Around its neck is a glittery rainbow ribbon.

It's Snitter's first time at one of the big shows, and the Type: Null is clearly enraptured by the brightly-colored chaos. Heather had been taking it to more and more rehearsals and dress rehearsals to acclimate it to the noisy crowds, and it's much easier to handle than on that first day, stepping out of the Silph Co. building and into bright sunlight for the very first time, but it's still a lot.

So much, in fact, that when a party popper happens to go off a few yards away, the Type: Null launches a good yard into the air on its grasshoppery legs before landing stiffly on its side like a knocked-over yard decoration.

"What have you got, Wrath?" "A KNIFE!" "NO!!!"

By now, the local attendees of the circus all know exactly what to expect when the small boy in the artfully-tattered purple silks comes dashing out into the ring... but that never stops the theatrical, collective gasp of surprise (and often a little bit of horror) from newer audience members when he gleefully whips out what are clearly a bunch of knives, their blades glinting in the lights.

That's right.

Someone, whose name starts with a 'J' and ends with an 'R', decided to make Wrath the circus knife-thrower.

And clearly this was not an entirely oblivious decision, as quite a show is made of the clowns dramatically panicking, fleeing, or hiding behind comically-undersized props when Wrath makes his appearance. The boy even cackles and chases after some of them in big leaps and bounds.

But when the actual throwing starts, by some miracle none of the blades end up embedded in any living beings.

Unless you could the gag where one clown gets a dagger to the butt, which is clearly a large pillow stuffed into the back of his pants, and jumps three feet into the air with a loud honk sound effect. Because the kids love butt jokes, especially ones with sound effects.

The Flying Trapeze

For this act, the spotlights swing high, high up in the air, following the death defying stunts of the pair swinging from the high wires, flipping through the air and catching each other with practiced ease and perfect synchronization. The sequins on their flashy, matching outfits sparkle and catch the light, and Envy and Lust have done this for long enough that they're able to do some of the really nail-biting stunts without taking any untimely falls into the net below.

Even as hard as he's concentrating, Envy finds it hard not to grin from ear to ear as the act goes on, the thrill of the whole thing not having lost a bit of its charm for him, even after all this time.

And after they're back on the ground again and bows have been taken, it's back to the sidelines for Envy, where someone might be able to catch him as he makes his way back to the staff area. Although once he gets there, he'll be sitting right down in the first available chair, because as exciting as it all is, his limbs are noodles now and breath needs to be caught.

BREAK TIME

Between his and Lust's performances and making sure that all the costumes are in order, Envy doesn't have a ton of free time...or at least not free time that isn't spent draped over a chair in the staff area. But come on, it's the circus and the weather is actually nice. Envy's gotta spend at least some time out among the stalls. There's fried food out there! And, even better, the very real possibility of attention from fans of the show!

Because he has to admit, at least half the fun of being a performer is the admiring audience. He can be found mostly in the stalls nearby the big top, just in case he's needed for something, happily bragging about the act to people who are willing to listen, or maybe grabbing some cotton candy to snack on. At his side walks a shiny Salazzle, although Mercury is liable to scurry over to anybody wearing anything interesting to give them a quick look-over.

OTA--or: Botan unleashes her ghost children on the world

[personal profile] styxiedust 2018-03-20 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
A. Let's play a game

[Botan isn't using her Pokemon to cheat or anything like that.

In fact, she brought all of her Phantump children (+ the Gengar Quintet hiding in her shadow as usual) to enjoy some fun and games at the circus. Yes, the Phantump are all participating in the games. Tomoe and Luciano are staying by Botan's side, of course, but the rest are all at various booths having a grand old time while Botan watches them with a smile. Andy and Leo set to popping balloons with darts immediately, giggling and joking with each other to see who can do better. Kathryn, Marilyn, and Fritz situated themselves at the Ducklett Pond--the two girls mutually agreeing that they would give over their prize of a stuffed toy to Fritz and said younger Phantump merely observing them (and trying to stay as close to lights as possible as he was afraid of the dark.) Lotte and Rolando were fighting over who would test their strength first with Beverly and Alan trying to mediate. Botan won't intervene, though, instead she'll move on to check on the rest of her Phantump who...]

B. Buy something, will ya?

[...Have congregated around the booths to see what they can beg Botan to buy for them (though they have an allowance of their own and shouldn't need to). Luci, Nicolai, and Anne Sofie have stopped at the flower booth, Anne Sofie trying out a variety of flower clips for her branches (the more feminine the better), Luci checking to see how the glass bow ties look on her, and Nicolai...well. He's a down in the dumps stump as usual. When Botan gets closer to them, she takes a flower crown and plops it on the Pokemon's head.]

Come now, Nic, circuses are meant to be fun!

[Nicolai fusses and flails his small arms as the other nearby Phantump giggle. After a while, Botan leaves this area to find where the final five of her Phantump have gone.]

C. Cooking Mama

[Ah, to the food--it does smell quite good. The woman stops to get candy apples for Tomoe and Luciano, which they munch on happily (how? Don't question it).]

Now, let's see, it was Robert, Nellie, Willow, Hel, and Rosa I didn't see...where have they gone? [It seems she took too long to ponder as Luciano taps her on the shoulder and points over to the deep fried booth where the others seem to be goading Robert into eating as many deep fried pickles as he can.]

Oh my gosh, Robert! Stop that! You're going to get sick! [At this point the Gengar have now emerged from her shadow to gather around and cheer on Robert, though one that is notably wearing a bowtie and has a general air of prissiness is joining Botan in the scolding.]

D. The Down Time

[After the fun and excitement of watching the show (the Phantump enjoyed the show very much, cheered quite loud at the performances, Botan had to return some Gengar to their Pokeballs so they wouldn't be tempted to play pranks) our Reaper friend is taking her time preparing to take the kids home so they can be put to bed. She can be seen anywhere around that guests are allowed and hailed for some healthy talking sans her millions of ghosts.]

Ivy had been curious about attending this event (because anything that included celebrating Grass types was automatically a point from her) when Newt had offered to take her. A part in his attempt to 'make things up to her' after their little quarrel earlier in the week. So, of course, she'd accepted.

She walks with her arm linked casually with his as they enter. "They really got all out, don't they?"

Brookyln the Leafeon is all about this kind of excitement and is practically vibrating beside Ivy's leg.
