[Unfortunately for the current residents of Johto, they might be unfortunate enough to find what might be one of the worst video feeds ever on the network. It seems to cut in and out at first, and even after it manages to stay on for longer than ten seconds, the video is really just... the world spinning endlessly. Ground, leaves, sky, ground, leaves, sky -- Occasionally a tree is visible for half a second and the direction of movement seems to change, but other than that, it's an endless loop of ground-leaves-sky.

It might eventually be obvious that the camera appears to be attached to something that is rolling quickly down a hill. It probably helps that the entire feed is accompanied by the sound of what's clearly a Pokémon "hooting" over and over - rather excitedly, at that - and a voice somewhere in the distance. Pay close enough attention and the words being yelled out are things along the lines of--]

Wait!! Come back!! Just-- Spread your wings and stop rolling already!!

[Does that sound like a new trainer in need of help? That's probably because that's more less exactly what it is.]

[The response back is slightly delayed, since there's... kind of a lot going on for Pidge. And then of course there's the part where she'd started to type out a reply, only to delete it a moment later.

i'd hardly call it "buffed up", honestly. they just put out more patrols. they didn't even think to check their new student rosters for anomalies.

[After some finangling, he switches to video, a big orange and black cat on his shoulder, sort of around his neck. It's sniffing close at the screen.]

It started as a Litten, but she evolved. She's called a Torracat now.

[Well, if he's gonna video, Pidge is gonna video right back. Which means Keith gets a really good view of both her face and of the Rowlet now perched on her shoulder, peering at the screen and making a bunch of soft little "hoot" noises. And Keith can also now see just how closely she resembles her brother, especially with such a similar lopsided smile.]

Wow. [And then she looks curious, head tilting ever so slightly.] What do you mean by "evolved"?

[Wow that bird is round.

And wow yeah, Pidge really does look like her brother. He kinda shoves Torracat's face away from the screen.]

I mean-- They level up when you let them fight? And after long enough they 'evolve'. Get stronger and become something else.

Oh right, the battling thing. [Yuuko had mentioned that before. She's still not entirely sure she understands it yet, but it might be something that she has to actually see before it starts making more sense.

And then she's smiling again.] I bet you take yours training a lot.

[At that, his expression flattens at the same time his Torracat looks so damn proud of itself. Smug little shit.]

She loves fighting.

[Sorry, Keith. But Pidge is basically beaming at him right now.]

She must be really good by now.

Yeah. [Torracat butts heats with Keith's cheek and he can't help but smile.]

She's pretty strong. It's not her last evolution though. I think she has one more.

[Pidge wait until you see the big wrestle cats on the island.]

[It's such a heart-warming scene. She can't help but think of the days when he was the Red Lion's pilot and it would go charging into places to rescue him. Actually, the Black Lion is sort of the same way, isn't it...]

Is that common for these creatures? Evolving multiple times?

Seems like it. Depends on which one, they evolve at different rates. The gear you've got should give you all the information about it.

[Just mentioning the 'gear has Pidge's eyes lighting up slightly.]

Oh, right! I'll have to take another look at the readout for Rowlet when I've got a minute. But this tech is pretty cool! It seems like it's just a little ahead of Earth's technological level in some ways, kind of behind in some others. I'm gonna have to try making some tweaks to it to see if I can get it up to something I'm more comfortable with.
