[Unfortunately for the current residents of Johto, they might be unfortunate enough to find what might be one of the worst video feeds ever on the network. It seems to cut in and out at first, and even after it manages to stay on for longer than ten seconds, the video is really just... the world spinning endlessly. Ground, leaves, sky, ground, leaves, sky -- Occasionally a tree is visible for half a second and the direction of movement seems to change, but other than that, it's an endless loop of ground-leaves-sky.

It might eventually be obvious that the camera appears to be attached to something that is rolling quickly down a hill. It probably helps that the entire feed is accompanied by the sound of what's clearly a Pokémon "hooting" over and over - rather excitedly, at that - and a voice somewhere in the distance. Pay close enough attention and the words being yelled out are things along the lines of--]

Wait!! Come back!! Just-- Spread your wings and stop rolling already!!

[Does that sound like a new trainer in need of help? That's probably because that's more less exactly what it is.]

[There's a sharp "HOOT!" in response to that yell, and congratulations, Rowlet does actually release the PokéGear. Of course, that doesn't stop it from continuing to roll away.

At least Pidge is able to scoop the device up in the next moment; except there isn't really any way for the newbie trainer to notice that the thing is on or transmitting in the heat of this chase.]

C'mon-- You're a bird!!! FLY OR SOMETHING!!

[Newt is undeterred. Luckily, the video feed of Pidge running is nowhere near as awful as the constant rolling.]

Hey, you- is that thing yours? Have you tried using those, uhhhh- Pokéball things to call it back?

[Oh hey, it looks like Pidge actually did manage to get the device to transmit something in the midst of all this... madness. But the curiosity and desire to go poking around at the rest of the thing's functions will have to wait for now. There's an owl creature to catch.]

First of all- [And Pidge is really pretty breathless with all this running and yelling, so the words come out in abrupt stops and starts.] -yeah the lady said the owl is mine, and I have no idea what ball you're talking about right now!

It's this red and white ball she gave you- it's the one your owl goes into! It's really pretty cool, there's like, a flash of light and it just kinda sucks it up, I really wanna figure out how they made this stuff or what goes on inside these things because it's pretty awesome and I have no idea how they- uh, anyway, just try to go through your stuff and find it?

Are you kidding me?! If I take my eyes off that thing for two seconds, it's gonna roll into a hole and kill itself or something!

[A huff, and speak of the devil, Pidge has to duck and swing around a tree to keep following Rowlet.] Besides, it's probably just a miniaturized transdimensional storage unit or something along those lines, I'll get a better look at it later.

[Pidge will need a moment later to process this information. It's difficult right now with all the running and keeping track of which way that owl has rolled off to this time. But it will definitely be earmarked and returned to once there's a solid ten minute span of this owl not trying to hurt itself.]

Ok, ok, that's fair. Uhh.... Do you have something like, I dunno, a blanket or a jacket you can toss over it? Birds tend to calm down or at least, stop moving when that happens.

... Wait, is that sort of thing normal for you? That's awesome. I definitely need to take one of these Pokéball things apart soon.

Uhh, I'll need to-- [Pidge is still mildly distracted now, but at least it's only because a jacket needs to be removed. It takes a moment, before Pidge is properly on camera again, this time holding a jacket in preparation to throw it.

[As a side note: that is amazing as hell.]

I-- Rrgh, I still need to get a little closer! [And attempts to run faster are go. Quiznak, the outdoors are the worst.]

Kind of, yeah. I work with a lot of different kinds of tech usually, so this whole outdoorsy camping thing going on here kind of sucks.

God, I know, right? I work with a lotta tech stuff too- I'm more of a biology kinda guy, but one of my doctorates is in mechanical engineering, sooo.

[No worries, animals gotta be taken care of!]

[Pidge could hug this man right now. Finally someone who understands the awfulness of the outdoors.] Right?! Everyone on my team always tells me I need to get out more, which is stupid because everything I need is in my equipment--

[The gap has closed slightly and Pidge attempts to throw the jacket over the Rowlet's head. It's so close, but Rowlet makes a thrilled little hoot! just before somehow propelling himself forward the few inches he needs to get away.]

Oh quiznak, STOP ROLLING ALREADY!

RIGHT?! I know- like, I tell my friend- uh, wait- I used to tell Hermann that he needed to get out more, but that's because he's Hermann and he's allergic to fun. But that's, you know, getting out and vaguely speaking to actual human beings sometimes, not going out like living in the wilderness.

... Ok, your bird is adorable but he really needs to tone it down and chill out.

[If it were possible, Pidge would've definitely spares a second to laugh at that story. There are definitely a few people in Pidge's life that could benefit from taking a day off, after all. But that's neither here nor there.

What's both here and there is the damn owl.]

I feel like I'm going nuts chasing after him! Why is it so hard to catch one quiznaking bird?!

I dunno why you can't catch the... Quiznos bird? But just keep trying! He's yours, after all- you gotta figure it out at some point, right?

[Pidge turns a quick, exasperated glare onto the camera.]

I didn't pick him!! What exactly am I supposed to be figuring out here?!

I dunno! Figure out how to take care of him and, eventually keep him from doing stuff like this?!

I'm new here too, I dunno what I'm doing either! But we're both gonna, figure it out somehow. Right? So go catch your bird.

[That just seems to fluster Pidge a bit more for a second, but then-- Well, the guy's right. There's kind of a mission in need of being accomplished.]

Right. Looks like we've both got our work cut out for us here. [Pidge even nods once, eyes determined.] Wish me luck.

[Though technically wishing someone luck really doesn't do anything and it's honestly kind of a useless turn of phrase-- Whatever, Pidge is hanging up now and refocusing on Rowlet.]
